Swedish JW df'ed ...................
by TheOldHippie inin case nobody else has heard it, the swedish jw who was the "main personage" in the television program aired a month or so ago, was df'ed yesterday.
the branch hung up upon him in the program and asked him to write a letter, giving his story how he had been abused etc.
the branch overseer told the reporters how sorry he felt for him, and that he had been helped, and how they wanted to help him in the future, too.

What is a generation?
by larc ini think we all know about the changing definiition of "generation" by the watchtower society.
i thought i would highlight history in terms of generations.
my great grandfather was born in 1850. that would make him 29 when russell started his religion.

There seems to be some confusion here on what is a generation and what is a lifetime. A persons life span (70-80 years) is not the same as a generation.
My family once took a five generation photo. Me, my mother, my gandmother, my great grandmother, my great, great grandmother. There were 20 years between each of us (on average) I was a baby, my great great granmother was 85. Thats 85 years of actual time and 5 generations. NOT one generation.
Now the scripture says "this generation will by no means pass away until all these things occur." It doesn't say these 5 generations will by no means pass away.
So the society says that the generation that saw the sign of christs presence will by no means pass away. What do they say IS the sign of christs presence? Do they say it is the sign at Matt 24? The wars and reports of wars etc? Or is the sign of his presence something else? Are they saying the sign of his presence is "this wicked generation"? I dont understand what they are trying to say with this new light and would like to be able to explain it to my family who are still in.
Can anyone help me?

When I got reinstated it took six months, during that time I had to be at ALL the meetings, not miss one. No association was allowed, either with worldly people, other disfellowshipped ones or witnesses. In other words you are in solitary confinement for 6 months, luckily I was married and so had my partner to keep me sane.
I had 3 meetings with the elders and they gave me scriptures to study mostly about repentance, I think some were about Davids repentant attitude. Then basically I had to suck and grovel and I was reinstated. They make you suffer to the last minute then suddenly you are back in and announced at the next meeting.

Font Madness.
by hillary_step inam i the only one being driven to distraction by the use of fonts so massive in some posts that you need to stand well back to read them?
shouting in capitals is viewed as ill-mannered netiquette, using 36 point fonts, and emboldened ones at that, should be an indictable offense.

Forum members spent more time to study the Watchtower then the dubs do
by Country_Woman innow that i have read a lot of threads and comments, i can only imagine that the majority of ex jws are (and were) much more keen to learn then the ordinary dub.
when i look to myself, i took everything for common, but once i start looking further - i found out so much -not expected- that i let myself fade away.
with another personality i should have disassociate myself.

Yes I Study much more now and know more History of the WT. I remember being excited when proclaimers came out because I thought it would be a history of JW's, I was very disappointed.

Through everything... do you feel that you learned soemthing?
by anotheropenviewpoint ini am new to the board and have read countless gripes and pokes at "the organization" but i fail to find one interesting question.. in preface... i was disfellowshiped myself over 5 years ago.
in that time, i had done much searching, visited many churches and faithes.. going to some for as short as one session and some as long as 6 - 8 months.
after i felt my search was in vein i stopped attempting to go to these shurches all together.. i never forgot how to pray through.

you are acting against the directives of the Society and the God-appointed Faithful and Discreet Slave and it's Governing Body
Again, I search for god and serve no such society. Doing so would be idolatry. So what about your baptism question? When you answered yes to:
1985
(1) On the basis of the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, have you repented of your sins and dedicated yourself to Jehovah to do his will?
(2) Do you understand that your dedication and baptism identify you as one of Jehovah's Witnesses in association with God's spirit-directed organization WT 6/1/85 page 30
Or were you baptised before 1985?
Or:1956 through 1984
(1) Have you recognized yourself before Jehovah God as a sinner who needs salvation, and have you acknowledged to him that this salvation proceeds from him, the Father, through his Son Jesus Christ? 2) On the basis of this faith in God and in his provision for salvation have you dedicated yourself unreservedly to God to do his will henceforth as he reveals it to you through Jesus Christ and through the Bible under the enlightening power of the holy spirit? Watchtower July 1 1956 page 407
1942 (1) Do you believe in Jehovah God the Father, that "salvation belongeth unto Jehovah", and that Christ Jesus is his Son in whose blood your sins are washed away and by whom salvation comes to you from God? (2) Have you therefore confessed your sins to God and asked for clensing by Christ Jesus, and therefore turned away from sin and the world, and consecrated yourself without reservation to God to do his will? Watchtower Oct. 1 1942 page 302
To answer your question: I learnt that I have a personality that is easily attracted to cult type organisations because I like everything put in a box, neat tidy and no questions to be left up in the air. I learnt that Jehovahs witnesses accept nothing less than absolutes. I learnt that men (Elders) can be given power over peoples lives, family ties and happiness and this totally corrupts them. I learned that Elders are often wrong in judicial cases and yet pray for gods holy spirit to direct them, then make their decisions based on their belief they have gods spirit, then rip families apart, siding with the male member of the household because he was in fact the one who gave them the contracts which provided them with a living. They had holy spirit? yeah right!I have seen so many corrupt judicial cases! They do NOT have gods Holy Spirit I am sorry.
