Got a few giggles from another discussion board RE: "Why don't JWs vote?"
by razorMind inre: serena williams' comments about jws not voting......of course the non-jw members wanted to know why.. the first giggle i got from all the non-jws posting who wanted to know why she could dress so skimpily, pursue her tennis career and wrap herself in the american flag while still proclaiming to be a jw.
i'd go so far as to say all of the non-jw posters were questioning this.. the second giggle was the expected knee-jerk defensive reaction from the jws on the board......i.e., "here we go judging people from appearance again," and "how come nobody's judging this celebrity/that celebrity?".
then, the expected "how come everybody hates jws" comment from another one.

"Should the Name Jehovah Appear in the New Testament?" WT Aug 1st 2008
by slimboyfat inhas this new article in the wt been discussed here yet?
if so i missed it.
anyway here are some selected quotes with my own thoughts.. bible scholars acknowledge that god's personal name appears in the old testament, or hebrew scriptures.

This should solve the debate easily. Was Jesus a Jew? Yes. Are Jews allowed to use the name of god casually? No. Ergo, it didn't appear in the NT.

"This is a clear example of racism in action. ColdRedRain thinks examples of a few black thuggish types has anything to do with a dialogue on black and white racism. It's as if I brought up meth heads in their run down trailer parks--how loud they were and how the police came out every weekend--applied it to The White Problem and How White People Are. I'd be nothing but a racist, right? A few blacks who identify with a certain (underclass or hip-hop) subculture aren't all blacks, even most blacks and don't have a d@mned thing to do with how black people are, just as a few white meth heads, skin heads, or whatever, have little to do with all white people and how white people are."
Bwahahah! That's the funniest B.S. I ever heard! I wish my favorite Cuban-American was here to see this. Anyway, I know how most of the African-American community thinks because I'm black. I see this behavior all the time on the way to work, school or TKD practice. I went to school with these people. So don't tell me this isn't the truth.

Growing up in a mostly white area of the country, I can tell you that some of the racism is a 2 way street. Most of the black people in the isolated pockets of diversity in my area are loud and prone to committing petty crime. In fact, yesterday, I almost got into a fight with a teenage gangbanger wannabe because he was bullying a 7 year old girl. It didn't come to blows, thankfully. A lot of white people do judge blacks based on the actions of a lot of these thugs. And in fact, when somebody tries not to act like those thugs, they get accused of "Selling Out". It's a vicious cycle. Listen to Bill Cosby to get the full meaning of what I'm saying. I'm not saying that all black people are like that, I'm just saying how being an uneducated, loud, violent thug is seen as a character value rather than something to be ashamed of by a majority of young blacks.
I won't go on any further because it seems as though anybody who posts anything right of Stalin is going to get booted around here.

Here, I made this especially for people like Mike.
Dear: [x]Book taught loony [ ]Person with an inflated ego [x]Person who made a ridiculous claim I cannot bother to reply to your post in the future because I would feel as though: [x]The more I talk to you, the dumber I get. [x]We've discussed this topic ad nauseum and you didn't check the previous threads. [x] No matter how much evidence we show you, you're still deluded enough to stand by your own wrong opinion. [ ]It's painful to watch you whither into a sea of incoherent babble. [ ]You refuse to debate with me in a straightforward manner and I'm not going to be bothered trying to exchange first grade insults. You won the battle. I don't care anymore. Just don't try to steal my action figures. I would bother to flame off against you except you: [x]Cannot accept reality [ ]Don't really know how to flame so you're trying to win this debate by using logical fallacies or using a series of double entants to hopefully try to draw me into a quagmire. In the future [ ]Don't reveal too much about yourself [x]Make sure to do some research before you flame again. [x]Try not to hurt your brain by continuing this debate. Thank you.
The 5 minute troll responder was brought to you by CRR. Use this whenever somebody brings up a topic that you feel as though will waste your time.

McLellan book & the GOP reaction...chance to wake up JWs?
by sir82 indon't want this thread to turn political, but.... have you noticed that just about every administration response to scott mclellan's new book attacks the messenger?
"he's disgruntled"..."it's not like him"..."we're disappointed he chose to do this"....etc.
not one word (that i have seen or heard) disputing the actual contents of the book.. sound familiar?

If he wanted to release the book and blow the whistle, why didn't he do it around the time he was terminated rather than around an election cycle? I'm not asking because I'm a Republican, I'm asking because I value truth and motive over everything. This seems like a money backed betrayal. But I will read the book.
"But which of the two administrations went in there, eschewing any diplomacy or futher sanctions (or any other options that could have been worked out), and tried to force democracy on an unwilling people there?"
Umm, Bill Clinton sent missiles into Iraq, Bush Sr. bombed Iraq, and even Reagan wasn't that big of a fan of Iraq. Iraq shot some of our planes during the Reagan administration. Nobody remembers that. Iraq's alliance with the USA was more of an alliance of convenience rather than a true friendship. Iraq was at war with Iran, who was seen as a greater threat.

McDojo's Witnesses
by ColdRedRain ini've noticed that jws tend to shy away from debates.
when brought on the table for a debate, they don't debate, but rather preach to others instead.
i liken this to how a lot of fake martial arts schools teach their students.

I've noticed that JWs tend to shy away from debates. When brought on the table for a debate, they don't debate, but rather preach to others instead. I liken this to how a lot of fake martial arts schools teach their students.
I am an avid martial artist. I train at a moderately OK martial arts school. It's hosted in a megagym, which means the quality is watered down somewhat and the allmighty dollar is king (My last colored belt test was $115!!!!!!!) but it's still a great school system.
As a martial artist, I'm always seeking new ways, theories and philosophies how to fight and make my art very well rounded and effective. I've visited some GREAT schools, and I've gone to some really bad schools all in a quest to round out my art. The really bad schools are called "McDojos".
McDojos and the JW religion have lots in common. One is how they put emphasis on gaining members and signing up new members vs a quality martial education. McDojo students usually know very little about their art. They can't tell you the theories behind their forms, and they often mispronounce their art's foreign language terms even calling their art the wrong name (I.E., a Taekwondo student calling his or her art "karate" or an Aikidoka calling him or herself a "Jujitsuka").
Another is a promise of quick promotion. Also, another sign of a McDojo is how the McDojo disallows students from studying other styles and integrating other styles into their own personal fighting style. Still another is aggressive marketing techniques. And still another is quick promotion to high ranks that in most other schools, would take decades to achieve.
A Jehovah's Witness lacks any real knowledge of the bible despite their rote memorization of the bible. They know the words of the bible but cannot debate with you the actual meaning of the scripture. Any Greek or Hebrew words they learn on stage (A very rare instance) are horribly mispronounced, and they're often told the wrong definition of the words.
They are very aggressive marketers. They also quickly promote members to the higher ranks. You can become a baptized member of that church within a year. Also, they are STRICTLY PROHIBITED from holding any private ideas about religion that disagree with the main church.
And both McDojos and the JWs have this in common: They don't spar with other school's students. Which means no debating for the JW and no sparring other school's students for the McDojoist. They encourage you to join their school (or church) to "find out the way we do things" instead of debating (or sparring) with the students.
I'm trying to become an MA teacher. And I know I cannot ever be a quality teacher unless I teach my students how to defend themselves when their art is questioned. When I teach, I'm going to bring in moves from all various arts when I teach my students self defense to make sure if they're defending themselves, they don't break down and start doing memorized forms to defend themselves, but rather use their vast martial knowledge to make sure their opponent is defeated.
JWs do not teach people how to defend their "art" corretly. Instead, I see this from JWs when they're even cornered into defending their "art", they simply go through rote memorized scriptures, much like McDojo students go through rote, memorized kata when attacked.

Anyone here into vegetarianism?
by DazedAndConfused inthis trying to become somewhat of a vegetarian is hard.
i can look up anything on the net and find out how to do anything, including how to make a devastating nail bomb to making ricine (sp) to kill people but i can't seem to find out the nutritional values a person needs.. what i worry about most is the protein that we need on a daily basis.
right now i am eating everything that has the highest content of protein i can find in the cupboard.. i am not trying to go vegetarian because of peta, although i have watched the video's (eeeeewwwww).

Heh. I forget about the entire "beans and soy protein" crap. I just drink a protein shake every day before I start my day. You can buy jugs of dehydrated whey protein for 12 bucks at the local Wal Mart. I drink a protien shake every day. I'm an ovo-lacto, so it's OK for me to drink them. The cholesterol level is kinda high, but since I don't eat meat and I eat almost nothing in cheese products, I have a very low cholesterol level.

Tough Questions for Jehovah's Witness...
by Tuesday inhey folks!
wondering if everyone here is willing to weigh in on a thought i had.
so i've been on youtube alot lately and came across this profile:.

Here's one to ask them. "Is the Watchtower Society capable of saying anything that's factually inaccurate?" The JW would say "yes" but in reality, they would want to say "no".
Then a good follow up question would be "If they were found to be factually inaccurate, would the JW religion still have the truth or will they not have the truth?".
And if they talk about the light getting brighter, then follow up with "What makes your concept of 'new light' so much different than the 'progressive revelation' doctrine of the other churches, and who is to say what you're preaching right now isn't 'old light'?" That will be a good stumper for a JW.
