Tech49 has the CO over for lunch
by Tech49 inso awhile back, during our last circuit overseer visit, vic and i decided to bite the bullet.... there seemed to be very little support for the mid-week lunch plans for the co and his wife, so we signed up to host.
we definitely didnt want it to be awkward, so we invited a few others along, as a nice little group affair.
they were excited, and offered to do the cooking, so i said i would play along.. just some background.... this particular co is kind of a tool (big surprise right?

So awhile back, during our last Circuit Overseer visit, Vic and I decided to bite the bullet.... there seemed to be very little support for the mid-week lunch plans for the CO and his wife, so we signed up to host. We definitely didnt want it to be awkward, so we invited a few others along, as a nice little group affair. They were excited, and offered to do the cooking, so I said I would play along.
Just some background.... this particular CO is kind of a tool (big surprise right?), and hasnt even given me the time of day in his last 3 visits. I don't even know if he knows my name. And all along, at every visit, during the first meeting, he has made it abundantly clear that him and his wife are gluten free, so DONT EVEN think about putting anything in front of us that doesnt meet OUR STANDARDS. Anyways, I digress...back to our program...
Friends arrive early, bring food, we get it all set up, nice little array of soups, breads, salads, drinks, the works. Some gluten free, some not (not everyone is anti-gluten). CO arrives with another brother from the group, wife is sickly, and so wont be joining us. They saunter in... I come from the kitchen with Vic, he greets her (she was out midweek, I was not as I actually have a company to run and all)... and I dont even get so much as a hello. Whatever, no worries. He wanders to the buffet of food at the table..... and literally GASPS !! "You know I cant have breads and such, right!?"
(facepalm).... "Yes brother, I know... which is why we all have taken the opportunity to provide several choices, both gluten free and "regular" food." "Oh, I see, well, that's good then." (at this point, my temperature is rising, but not enough to be noticed, except by Vic)
So we all sit down and go through the motions of lunch, and I have to say that this is the most BORING lunchtime affair I have had in a long while. Mr. SuperDuper CO doesnt give a rats ass about anyone else at the table... he spends the ENTIRE time talking about himself.
This goes on for about 20 minutes.
Turns out he is a lifer, born in, raised in, straight to Bethel, met his wife (same story), eventually straight into Circuit Work. No extracurricular job, No kids, no other life at all. Late-50's.
So at this point, I am bored to death, as any conversation other than about himself, is when either Vic or I or someone else at the table ask him a direct question. So I ask him, directly..."Brother C.O., since you and the Ms. have no kids, what kind of jobs have you held in the last 30 years that will be of use to you when you eventually have to "retire" from Circuit Work?"
He gives us all this blank stare, and then jumps right into the usual tyrade of "Jehovah provides for us".... he NEVER has held a job outside of "pioneering". Oh, the "odd" job, washing windows, digging ditches, packing lumber for any brother who needs a little extra help. "I'm a REAL hard worker, ya know!!" But REAL WORLD experience? None, Nada, Zippo. No skills, no education, nothing.
I say "so how are you going to provide for yourselves when you can no longer travel as C.O.'s ?"
Again... blank stare, kind of incredulously, as if I should even dare ask such a foolish question... "Well, I am sure that Jehovah will provide for us, and it wont be too long until we can collect SSI, and the brothers in the congregations are always giving us money and stuff too... its such a Blessing!"
oh brother.....
The friends at the table all kind of looked at each other with disgust. All of them are hardworking families, just barely getting by, and struggle even to keep food on the table, literally, sometimes.
As he pushed his chair back, belly full of someone elses Gluten Free food, wiping the dribbles from his fatty chin..he looked around at our home, our teen-age kids (whom he never once even acknowledged or noticed they were there), our property, our vehicles in the driveway, shop in the background, cattle grazing in the front pasture..... and said this:
"Wow, you guys sure have alot to distract you. Ya'know, that's exactly why the Ms and I do what we do. So we can serve Jehovah with FULL hearts, and not be divided in our attentions. You all need to be careful not to get so distracted by the world, there is nothing here for you, its all unimportant and will be gone soon."
OK, lunch over.
We took note of the time, assured him that he need to "hurry along now" so that he could make the afternoon FS meeting, and promptly swept him out the door.
Besides, if he stayed any longer, he may very well get backed into a corner and receive a sound beating from Vic....As he was exiting, he never thanked us, never even shook my hand.
I took some dishes to the kitchen, turned around, and he was pulling out of the driveway, in his leather-bound Buick. What a tool.
The remainder of his visit was just as fun... never said another word to us.
And the lady of the house was PISSED !!! Vic was boiling mad, how dare a man that is supposed to be a "shepherd" of the flock come to her home and disrespect her, her husband, her house, her hospitality, and then have the odacity to call our lives a "distraction"!!!?
It took her a few days to calm down, I just giggled and went about my merry way.... after all, I had to make sure I was keeping our company's payroll up.... as soon there will be another MOOCHER on SSI for us all to carry.

Does anyone know the curent understanding on Chess for JWs?
by BU2B ini seem to remember chess was frowned upon by some jws.
is this like the oral/anal sex policy?
just ignore it and hope it goes away...

Tech49
Ahhhh, the game of chess. Truly a very unique game, one that I learned early in my youth, played frequently, and continue to cherish.
Later on in life, I began to really appreciate the way that the game teaches you to think ahead, anticipate your oponent's moves, and to understand the consequences of your own moves...how every action has a reaction that forces another reaction, and so on and so on.
I dont play much anymore, but the ornate glass set that lives on my coffee table is a constant reminder of critical thinking.
And the 2 Kings are sporting ENORMOUS crosses. I have had many a JW admire them......And nobody says a word..... just sayin...

by stuckinamovement inam i the only one that finds it funny that the organization's campaign this month is to offer a printed magazine that is simply an ad for a website?
what's more is they have printed close to 50 mil copies which will be delivered by an army of volunteers who drive minivans and knock on the doors of empty houses repeatedly until they find someone at home...... can you imagine facebook going door to door to spread the word about how awesome their site is?.
-
Tech49
Yes, snare&Racket, its for real. When I saw the magazine in question, I thought to myself...."no way, just no way I'm going to push that". Its getting so beyond stupid, that's why it just doesnt sound real. The JW.ORG website and WT is transforming into one big advertisement for itself. I like the "Inception" reference, fits perfectly.
But alas, they are serious.

a "worldly" (gasp) Catholic just showed my huaband what true integrity is
by nonjwspouse inhe was a tenant of ours in 2009 on a visa, but was unaware of all the rules, such as checking in with any new address.
after some time, although hardworking, he lost his job and began getting behind in rent.
he promised to keep paying as much as he could.

I have to agree.
My personal experience has shown that it is NEVER in my best interests to employ "brothers". I have never seen a more lazy, whiney, self-centered bunch in all my life. Now mind you, there are alot of "worldly" idiots as well, but I can honestly say that the guys and gals in my company right now are a great bunch, and NONE of them are "brothers". The "friends" usually dont last more than a month or so. The last one, I personally fired because he straight up LIED to my face about doing work at a jobsite, when he hadnt done a stinkin thing. Another fellow I hired as a favor to an elder was the most lazy fool I have ever seen... I caught him sleeping on another jobsite. Another down and out, unemployed window-washer (no joke) I felt pity for..... he asked me for a raise the SECOND DAY! 3 days after that, he quit because he said he wasnt making enough (I was paying way more than minimum wage, and had promised a CASH bonus to help him out if he did a good job for me), and it got in the way of his Pioneering. So back on welfare he went! (again, no joke).
I have had more no-show, quit-because-its-hard, I'm-sick, I'm-worth-more-money excuses from JW's than anyone else, hands down. That's just my experience, I know others have had better luck, but my wife Victoria continually has to remind me..... "Dont hire Witnesses, you know it isnt going to work out...)
Their general attitude is that they are owed something, and they don't owe anyone anything to anyone else.

Most maximum age requirements are now being waved, so that ANYONE over 19years old can turn in an application for:
1. Temporary work at Bethel/Warwick. Previous age requirements were no one over 55.
Come one, come all, even you old-timers that are on SSI, to build the grand temple!! (Please be in good health though, as we dont want to care for you in the event you get confused and wander into the lake...) Isnt Jehovah so loving and generous to allow us to be a part of this EXCITING new work!!!
2. Semi-permanent stays (1 year or more). Previous age max was 35. Now all you welfare sucking slackers can come on out to share in this marvelous work NOW, before the END OF THIS SYSTEM !!!!
Special mention was made several times of those who might choose to "commute" to the project sites. And that you only had to be baptized for 1 year.
I heard several comments after the meeting about how exciting these times are, one brother is ready to drop everything just to go and live anywhere NEAR Warwick, so that he can be a part of it all. Forget working, or bills, or responsibilities, he just wants to be taken care of by HOLY SPIRIT... sigh.....
I think that as time goes on, fewer and fewer are making the trip to "help out", as they realize they are getting soaked, and are receiving absolutely ZERO compensation for their efforts, and are in fact spending thousands of $$ to build a Grand Taj Mahal for the Popelets. Hence the REPEATED calls for help, and lowering of requirements to do so.
I remember that when I made the journey to Bethel in NY last year, I couldnt help but notice that the oldest of the buildings, the old factory building, was mostly empty. We made our way downstairs, and the lobby was a closed-up ghost town, decorated in the 90's shades of purple and blue. I saw floor after floor empty, nothing, nada. What do we need NEW digs for? Obviously the ones we have right here arent even being used? Of course, they had already been in the process of moving out, and selling out, but it seemed ridiculous to tell the Rank and File to simplify and be happy with what you have, when the GB is making plans to go big and build out at the lake.....(again... WHY)?
I'll be damned if I am not going to buy that 10 acre piece I have been looking at for a while now! And no, I wont be making the journey to the Promised Land to help build the new Grande Temple. Let the other zombies go, I am working on my own future, not someone elses.
I better go before I get more worked up.....

So here is a little something that I have always wondered about: If there were approx 90,000 partakers in 1925, 100 years ago, they are all dead and gone, probably by, let's say 1960, just for discussion's sake.
Ok, so that means that the new "crop" of partakers numbering 13,000+ (and growing) are "newbies". So that's at least over 100,000 seperate, different partakers. Just in the last 100 years alone. That is also not taking into account the number of partakers that have popped up and died off DURING that time period from the 60's until now. ( I am sure someone else has done the calculations, but you get the idea.)
Now, what happened to the numbers of those in the first century congregations (over 2000 years ago!) that were supposedly of the annointed? Unknown number. My point is, it doesnt take a rocket scientist to see that these numbers just dont work. A literal number of 144,000 does not pencil out.
Next prediction: As the number of "annointed" continue to rise, the WTBTS will have no choice but to rewrite the story and backtrack on the LITERAL number, and it will become a FIGURATIVE number, indicating COMPLETENESS (12 x 12 x 1000) to the inth degree, because only Jah knows the ACTUAL number. Then, it will no longer be necessary to PUBLISH the actual numbers.
"After all, WE didnt say the numbers were literal."......Quick, someone change the Online Library.....
Checkmate, again.

Just wanting clarification on the RBC
by joe134cd ini have been reading threads about how the rbc operates, so i sort of have a fair idea of what the answers will be.
but i would like to have a more direct answer to my questions.. where do the orders come from that a hall is in need of a remodel, or a new one to be built.. can the elders refuse a remodel or quickly built.. out side contractors are only allowed with rbc approval.
what are the consequences if say a kh needed a new roof, and secular contractor was hired.. is it a case that orders a given that a hall needs a remodel, and that the rbc will have total control, and look out for who ever gets in the way, and elders just have to simply comply.. this is the question i most want answered.

Just wanted to chime in here, after the comments of James Jackson, and Partisan.
I will concur 100% that what you are hearing is true. After many, many years as a Trade Overseer, I was moved to Architecture, and then to Purchasing and Estimating.
When onsite for the actual construction project, smaller, necessary on-the-spot purchases can be made by a "purchasing agent" that has a credit card and a truck, and can go down to the local store and pay full retail (short on bricks? short on siding? short on roofing?? short on paint?? who forgot nails? every single project...).... mostly because incompetant RBC members cant run a tape measure or read a set of plans.
The RBC purchases materials from Home Depot where it can. The pricing is a whopping 10% below full retail, as was mentioned. Holy Spirit is saving WT BILLIONS !!
Big deal. I can go to the local lumber yard and have them put together a package price that will beat HD every time. The pricing structure the RBC has in place does NOT benefit the local congregations. WT gets kickbacks and rebates, that go directly into their coffers. As stated previously, most prices are overinflated, and are far above retail. I also know several local "contractors" that are "vendors" to the RBC, that provide things like cabinets, podiums, artwork, decorations, etc to the RBC, and charge them a very PADDED pricetag. I saw the invoices that came through the office for these "brother" "vendors", and thought to myself ..... WTH??? Double dipping much??!! Seriously, $1200 for a podium/lecturn that could have been built in the garage on a Saturday night with a couple of beers??? Or $800 for an Information Board?
No way these guys could ever get away with charging this much on a commercial jobsite! Brother "vendor" just happens to also be a reg pioneer and a prominent elder in the circuit, so shut up and dont worry about it. Multiple times, many different brothers.
Or how about free reign to take a weekend with your wife and go on a buying spree to buy whatever fancies you to "decorate" a new KH, with artwork, vases, tables, pretty bathroom gizmoes, doilies, fainting couches and a rocker for the ladies, changing room wallpaper and art, mood lights for the babies.... have a ball! Here's a credit card! Gobs of money you would NEVER feel right spending on your own household, its suddenly OK for the KH, no matter the cost! Holy Spirit loves a cheerful giver buyer. !
And dont even think for a second about getting any other "bids" for materials or cabinets or carpet or windows or lecturns or info boards from anyone else! RBC comes down on you like a ton of bricks, for "not submitting to Theocratic Order". BULL...... SHIT. Guess why I got kicked out of purchasing...... Apparently Holy Spirit didnt approve of me trying to save the poorer congregations some cash.

None of the references publications are older than 2000.
Soon, the WT CD containing all the old publications will be out of production, and you will have the sanitized, bleached, and re-worded online version only.
