  An epiphany, and prelude to other thoughts

  well, this is being a remarkable couple of weeks for me; one of those moments i'll remember for the rest of my life.

  not to be melodramatic, but i think "epiphany" best describes what i'm experiencing.. a little history: i was born and raised a jw, bethel-bound at 8, baptized at 10. always a book-worm, liked to study math, science, and old wts publications (what a combo lol).

  when i wasn't vacation pioneering (as it was called then), i spent my summers in my room, frequently reading for 16 hours at a stretch.

  These are the senses in which I use these two terms, and which, perhaps, led to some seeming ambiguity in the way I've expressed myself on recent threads.

  Ah yes semantics. S.I. Hayakawa is responsible in part for my love of language. He gave me an understanding that what we say very often is not what other people hear. If our semantic habits are outdated we may pre-judge, mis-evaluate, draw false inferences, jump to conclusions, mis-label and often fail to understand each other.

  When we really desire to be understood often we must first do as you have done; define the meaning behind the relevant words we use. That way everyone in our intended audience is on the same page so to speak.

  I like how your mind works. Please continue with your thoughts.

  Letter from OZ

  following is a letter circulating in oz, it should be distributed around the world , its nothing new but it's suprising how many jw's dont know these basics.... please publish and distribute this letter via fax, email, post or hand as widely as possible, it is in the public communitys interest to open up discussion and bring to light the deceitful deeds of the watchtower corporation this in turn may enlighten members and public alike.. .

  Asitis Welcome

  Thank you for the "letter" It is a short concise expose' of the WTS. I made copies. I do think that a few copies in local laundry mats would be good. Along with the Silent Lambs tracts.

  Just using the advice I learned at all those Service Meetings I wasted my time attended.

  fluff:being tickled

  i can't take it being tickled,all i have to see is a finger going towards my side and my body starts to buck like a wild animal.

  even tho it doesn't cause pain,it is a very unpleasant feeling for me,i laugh at first,then i'm screaming to the point of wanting to cry and do bodly harm to the one who will not stop this torment to my body..lol .

  how does tickling affect you.

  I have always felt that tickling was a form of abuse. I react in a negative way when someone dares to touch me in that way. I do not find it even a little bit humorous. I feel attacked, violated. I have demanded that people stop with the tickling of my children. They look at me funny but I don't care. I thought I was odd in feeling like that. Thanks for letting me know that others feel similar revultion to the practice.

  Smoker or Non Smoker?

  do you smoke?.

  would you live with a smoker, if you are non smoker?

  i wouldn't be able to smell cigarette smoke at home nor in my car.

  Never smoked. allergic to the smoke. Hate the smell on people's clothing.

  I miss the community feeling. I do not miss the control and other doctrinal BS.

  I feel like I have moved from a small town to a big city. I don't know anyone in the new city. It is kind of scary but exciting nonetheless. There are millions of potential friends out there. I just have to venture out and meet them.

  Militant Breastfeeding ??!

  i believe in breast feeding your child but not militantly.

  but i can understand why some women have gone to the extreme measures in motherhood.

  OH shoot I thought that this thread was going to be about real militant breastfeeding.

  When baby number three was one week old I attended one of those eight day conventions. Remember those? Anyway, here I was with two small children and baby in the middle of a row at Dodger Stadium. Of course baby got fussy, I was too stressed to care. So I covered baby and ninny and sat where I was at. A brother behind me says to his wife, "Why is she covering that baby up like that. Its too hot under a blanket for a baby." His wife told him that I was nursing. He got all huffy and made some rude comments about how indecent that was. The next day I brought a quilt and we sat in the corridor up against a wall. It wasn't in the sun and I didn't insult anyone.

  I was told by a woman in a restaurant once that I should feed my baby in the restroom. Again, I had the offending baby and ninny covered. I told her that my baby would eat in the restroom when she does.

  Nursing a baby at the Kingdom Hall was a bathroom activity. I was not militant enough to go against the elders. I was impressed with an elders wife at one hall. They sat in the back row, she sat next to the wall and she nursed during the meetings with her husband's approval and support. That was awsome. In all my 37 years in, I never saw another mom nurse in the main hall.

  How Many Here Are DF'd, Disassociated Or Not Worried That They Might?

  i'm curious as to whether the majority of the board's disfellowshipped.

  and i'm curious as to whether or not push came to shove, that you would not be overly distressed if you did wind up getting df'd........as time goes on, i am caring less.

  DA'd in July of 02. There was a lot of pressure to shut up about child abuse and the UN. Each time someone called or stopped by to see why I wasn't at the meetings anymore I would tell them the reason. If they didn't want to know then they should not ask. They each went to the elders. The PO would come by or phone to try to stop up the leak. I knew that push was quickly coming to shove especially since I was the subject of a "special needs" talk at the service meeting, I sent a letter to the headquarters, the elder body and every witness I had an address for.

  That put an instant halt to curious "friends". It has been peaceful ever since.

  Celebrating Mother's And Father's Day Is Unscriptural! You Gotta READ This!

  the may 8, 1956 awake had the article entitled,"mother and father worship unscriptural".

  it states:"nowhere in the bible do we find that parents are to be worshipped, or that there should be a father's day and a mother's day kept in their honor.

  worship belongs exclusively to jehovah god, as he himself says:' i jehovah your god am a god exacting exclusive devotion'.

  I had my first Mother's Day today. My children gave me flowers. They are grown raised in the "truth". This is their first oportunity to celebrate Mother's Day too. The WTS sucks every possible feeling and love from their prisoners. They want the honor and devotion for themselves. I did not get worshiped today. Just a thanks Mom for sharing your findings and research so we could all get out of that mess.

  I lived in Yakima for a year in 1994-1995. I didn't speak enough spanish to fit in. My mother and Aunt live there now but they are Fundies. don't go near them, they will wear you thin. I moved back to Florida.

  Thoughts on the "Fall of Babylon"

  most recently i have been examining such invisibly occurring events as the 1918 resurrection of the saints and this week ive looked into the watchtower claim that babylon the great fell in 1919. there was scant evidence and little biblical support for the wt claim about the resurrection occuring .

  in fact, the key line of proof of the resurrection was that rutherford was released from jail in 1919. does the claim of babylons fall in 1919 fare better?

  what is the proof offered by the wt that this, in fact, occurred?

  There you have the primary reason Refinersfire’s research is so valuable. When you take his research and add Greven’s contribution of an earlier publication you get a Bombshell. The WTS has done the old hokas-pokas routine for more than a hundred years. They refer the reader to an out of print publication as proof of whatever, knowing that the reader does not have access to the older publication. Few Dubs have either the Babylon book or the Finished Mystery book so the WTS is in the clear to throw it into their hair-brained proof of whatever suits their fancy.
