  Some vs Many

  it is interesting how the watchtower uses these two words.

  for instance, the word some is often used to minimize, and many used to maximize.

  and yet, it is so unspecific that some might be a greater quantity than many, yet the mind doesnt process these words this way.. for instance, if it is a failed prediction or a changed teaching, they might say, some believed... when it fact some means most or all, because this was food at the proper time coming from gods channel through the watchtower.

  One of the things that bothers me about the JWs use of this text applied to the Society is that Jesus was talking about Communion, something those same JWs are not allowed to do.

  Jesus' Teachings - Helpful or Harmful?

  spinning off from another thread, have jesus' teachings been less than universally helpful to mankind?

  how do we measure if a particular philosophy is helpful or harmful?.

  i am going to use the "universal morals" listed here.

  I thought I was leaving my family and friends behind for Jesus when I left the Watchtower. I read that verse "And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or fields for my sake will receive a hundred times as much and will inherit eternal life." about 6 times the day I told my parents about my conversion. It gave me a lot of comfort/encouragement at the time I left.

  I even weaved it into my testimony at church. Boy was I a hit that day.

  When the bible was released at the AGM one of the GB members raised the question of what scholarship was used to translate it, and answered it by saying that it was the only bible translated by the anointed and so therefore it was the best.

  Good spot ADCMS, "dear fellow domestics" what a bizarre way to greet people.

  i had no idea, having come from such a sheltered life, how tantalizing those little text messages could be.

  You don't need an affair, you need marriage counselling!

  The grass is not always greener and this new girl could end up worse. Even if it works out there may be residual guilt (particularly if you have children?) You want to be able to honestly say you did everything you could to save your marriage before you give up on it.

  Were People Surprised When You Left The Witnesses?

  mine was a gradual going away.

  but once it dawned on them, i think people were shocked that i left the religion i espoused from youth.. were people "in the truth" and "in the world" surprised by your departure?.

  Yep, stunned. I began my fade in a separate country to the one I grew up so my home congregation did not see it coming.
