I'm not sure they know it's BS, but certainly many of them are not nearly as confident as they appear. The fear and loathing of apostates is rooted in this concern, I think.

"Deep down inside even they know it is BS." Discuss
by rory-ks innope, bungi bill's interesting statement from this post didn't take, so i'll start its own.. from my own experience, i hated the field ministry.
it might just be because of the kind of character i am, whatever, i never was able to overcome that feeling of dread every time i went door-to-door.
i felt aware of how much people disliked having strangers cold-calling trying to sell them something.

If you truly beleive in the flood of noahs Day ,do you think he would have as apathetic as jehovahs witnesses are today in warning people?
by smiddy indo jehovahs witnesses honestly, sincerely beleive that the end of this system of things is just around the corner, and that they have the role of warning all of mankind of what is to befall them .?
so why is their ministry so blasaise ?
knock on the door ,no body comes knock on the door again nobody comes ?

Does the bible actually say that Noah preached? I think that might have been something the JWs made up.

The society gets to rent out district convention sites for free!!!??
by EndofMysteries inlook what i just found.... "the jehovahs witness convention, christian congregation was approved for a $30,000 grant to offset the cost of renting veterans memorial arena july 4-6 and july 18-20.".
http://www.jaxdailyrecord.com/showstory.php?story_id=542296.
i wonder how much are they charged for that event or if it ends up being close to free since the city will say it will generate revenue for the city.

The DC Hall in my home town is owned by the government and rented out for free due to the benefit the thousands of visiting JWs bring to the economy.

One Can Be Spiritual With or Without Religions!
by exWTslave inbehind all the details in the bible lies the absolute truth: love is the true religion.
(james 1:27) [conversely, self-serving is false religion.colossians 3:5] that means god is not a factor in the true worship.
(habakkuk 2:4) his attitude is that if you are good, it is good for you; and if you do bad, it is bad for you.

I may be alone but I do not agree with much of this thread (sorry exwtslave)
Kindness is always good of course, and I'm sure Diana is delightful, but if there's one thing I learnt as a JW it's that working to make God approve of you is just painful. Of course if you put that energy into loving others it will be more fulfilling than placing magazines but you still run into those same barriers at some point. 'Am I good enough?' 'Am I humane enough?' 'What does God make of my failures?'etc...
No thank you, I've been down that road and it only brings despair...

BOTR- Announcement
by Band on the Run inlaw school is obviously not the hardest program to follow.
it isn't something that can be replicated on the internet.
a first year student can find the law.

So several days ago some poser on the Internet told you you were wrong and you've just now decided that this is so outrageous that you need to leave? How very odd.

Abiather would love this thread.
Personally I think it sounds like a lot of work. Can I just go back to bed instead?

I am having trouble believing in God...
by thedepressedsoul ini was raised a jw and i am still one but recently i have been having trouble believing in a god.
this is not meant to offend anyone who does, i am just curious to see if i am the only one who thinks this..... to start, i am a very black and white person.
if 1+1=2 it makes sense to me and i can agree with it.

You raise some good points, but if I may offer a little pushback I'd like to point out that I think you're looking at religion through a very JW framework. Very few of the 'religions' (really, denominations) that have been built around the bible insist anywhere as close as dogmatically as the JWs that you must agree with them on every point in order to be saved.
There's no logic behind it which is why you'll find few people think that way outside of the JWs.
Edit: And welcome to the board. :)

Do you pray over your meals? If so why? If not, when did you stop and why?
by BU2B into answer my question, no i do not pray over meals anymore exept for when i am with other jws i do a 15 second head bow for appearances sake.
i just came to the realization god had nothing to do with whether i ate or not.
many believers are starving right now whilst many non-believers are eating like kings.. also why should god give me food while he lets little children in dprk concentration camps starve to death.

Nothing wrong with a bit of gratitude, but to be honest I don't make a habit of it, but never did much as a JW either.

Thanks Blondie!
My Dad sacrificed for the Watchtower Society. No pension for him, since he'd never reach retirement. He's 61 now, good work Watchtower!
