  being a jw makes one feel special, no doubt.

  when i found out ttatt i realized i'm not special at all.

  i'm just one of the other 7 billion human beings who will live and die being nobody, the world will forget about them (and i'm not talking about relatives and friend), they didn't make anything special in their life, they didn't change the course of history, were not famous nor rich, didn't invent facebook, google or anything awesome, didn't have an article published in newscientist, had no imdb profil, not even a wiki page, didn't write a book etc.

  I like your username but I don't know the answer to your question about 'when?'

  Re: showing honour to parents, a JW would respond that they don't need a special day to honour their parents, they do it all year round. (Whereas worldly people only care one day of the year, assumingly?)

  In the UK, this Sunday is mother's day! Though I have made a point of celebrating as many holidays as possible since leaving, this will not be one to add to my list as my mother would be genuinely offended if I sent her a card or something.

  Ask a JW why they don't celebrate holidays and they'll tell you it's because of some nefarious pagan connection. But this is really just a cover. The real reason is that not celebrating holidays is one of the ways in which JWs are set apart and made to feel special. They don't involve themselves in things Jehovah hates like all you pagans! But note, it builds this self worth in a way that's very different to how holidays do the same.

  Celebrating mother's day gives Mum self worth based on her work as a mother, refusing to celebrate it gives her self worth by virtue of her membership in the group. Thus a JWs identity is, as we know, wrapped up very strongly with their group identity.

  This is important, the reason JWs can be so cruel is because anything that threatens their place in the group directly threatens their own identity/ego, and so they push back against it.

  Opposition to holidays are one of the key ways JWs build this identity around the group, and that is the real reason why JWs don't celebrate Mother's day. (or any other holiday)

  I agree with every word you wrote, but does this have to be a negative?

  It's a great relief to know that the world will go on without me, to stop trying to have impact and just enjoy what's around me. See yourself for what you are, stop trying to become 'someone'. It never works anyway. Read Ecclesiastes by King Solomon or for a contemporary version listen to Pinocchio story by Kanye West. These are guys who in theory had/have everything you thought mattered in your post, guess what? They're still unfulfilled.

  Fame/money are not the route to fulfillment. Want to feel fulfilled? Find some good friends and take them out for a good meal, there is nothing better.

  As Solomon said 'who needs meaning when you can have lunch?' (my paraphrase - ecc 5:18-20)

  I don't believe the JWs will ever change and say the 144,000 is "symbolic"

  By saying things like magic are bad, do the WTS imply that it exists?

  i was wondering why they're so uptight about magical things (cough cough sparlock cough) and was just remembering some quotes in the publications about demons and stuff i saw on another thread and i seriously think that they believe this stuff is real.. once i asked my mum why previously she said not to watch magicians because they're bad blah blah when it wasn't real, hence the term magic trick.

  she admitted that while most of them are probably innocent, she still thinks some of them (anyone heard of dynamo?

  ) have some demonic power behind them.. i seriously wanna hear some other views on this .
