answer at the hall "its all illuminate!"
by purrpurr ini probably havnt spelt that right but anyway the other week a bro at my hall answered up saying that he had done research into the lives of these "rock and roll" stars and that he had discovered that they all belonged to a demon controled, satan worshipping secret cult called the illuminarte!
therefore we must steer clear of popular music because of the secrect demonic lyrics that it contains!!.
of course everyone nodded in agreement and the study conductor thanked him for his "fine" comment!.

Have you investigated Gnostic Christianity?
by Gnostic Bishop inhave you investigated gnostic christianity?.
the gnostic wing of christianity, if it can even be called that today, has quite a few differences to christianity and catholicism.
if the old gnostic christians were here, they would hardly recognize what has happened to the original orthodox catholic church or its various offshoots in protestantism and islam.

I like aspects of gnosticism, but overall find it too dualistic for my tastes.
I am also not convinced that Gnosticism has historically been less patriarchal than orthodoxy.

Singapore: The Religious consequences of Tim Cook coming out as gay
by fulltimestudent inas if we needed any further evidence that the minds of christians are not all that they should be, the shenagins in the christian segment of the christian segment of the singapore population once again demonstrated that each time they fart, they blow some of their brains away, and sadly they fart so much that there's not much brain left.. i guess most people have heard that time cook (boss of apple) publically stated this week that he was gay and proud of it.
in most of the western world, it barely caused a ripple, but not so in singapore where christians are always lobbying the government against sin.. but, tim cook as a gay man provoked the ire of the singaporean church leadership.. i have not heard that anyone claimed that using an apple iphone would make you gay, but prominent church leader lawrence khong, was commissioned as an apostle by dr. peter wagner, of the international coalition of apostles, in 2000. .
on hearing the news about tim cook, lawrence khong stop using iphone and even denounced technology altogether.

Pope Francis declares evolution and Big Bang theory are real (shows the way to JWs?)
by exWTslave inpope thus admits that every verse of the bible is not literally inspired.
it is like a story that is built to awaken the readers to some principles (not to educate the readers the historicity with all the minute details).. http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/europe/pope-francis-declares-evolution-and-big-bang-theory-are-right-and-god-isnt-a-magician-with-a-magic-wand-9822514.html.
if gb is wise enough, they can come out of the mess they have gone into, making use of this opportunity that pope has opened saying bible is not to be taken literally.

I suppose Joyce Meyer would be an improvement but she is not exactly the direction I would like the Society to take...

NT Wright's 'Christian origins' series is pretty good, if a bit heavy.

Morning Witness - Sowing the Seeds
by Frazzled UBM inso i walked past a couple of young witnesses on the way to dropping my son off this morning and they were still there at the station when i came back to catch the train.
seeing them made me feel sad and think about all the stories of regret here on jwn so i figured what the hell i'll tell them.
so i approached them and asked how old they were.

I am amused at the idea of anyone trying to intimidate you Frazz.
Hope you reached them in some way!

Has growing up as a JW affected my ability to forgive ?
by troubled mind ini really don't understand the concept of forgiveness .
lately in my life several people have thrown that term around so easily ,and i am confused .
is it because we were taught to cut people off so easily as jws that i find it hard to forgive ?.
-
Laika
I think it's important not to seek retribution against people who have hurt you. I am upset at my former JW friends for shunning me for example but I wouldn't take any glee in them facing the same shunning were they to somehow rebel, and I would welcome them back in my life if they wanted me back. My forgiveness however doesn't extend to me going back to the JWs and pretending nothing is wrong.
