hi everyone, totally new here.
and still associating with jws... have been baptised 23 years, that was at the tender age of 13 when i had absolutely no idea what i was doing.
i have always been considered a rebel...brought up in a family by a single parent, my two brothers are both elders, the younger being a regular pioneer, my sister a regular pioneer and serving in a foreign language congregation.
Hi Poppy,
I feel for you. I was in limbo like for a couple of years. It's not a nice place to be.
After a lifetime of Jw conditioning once we start to understand we feel as a limb has been severed.
Don't do anything drastic. Keep coming here. Read all you can. Educate yourself. In time you will come out of the quagmire and be able to see it through.
Take care of yourself

i am starting to notice some posts about ex-j.w.
's being mistreated, abused, by their fathers who were elders.. i wonder if this is quite common?.
hubert
My father was an elder for many years. He was a very emotionally disturbed man. He yelled all the time. I was always very afraid of him as was the rest of my family.
As a young teenager I would often ask my mother: "if Jehovah appoints the elders, then why would he appoint my father". Her answer was that in time Jehovah would see fit to remove him. Well Jehovah never removed him.
My father had two personalities. The congregation saw the kind one and his family saw the ugly one.
Through the years I've come to learn of many very disfunctional elders who treated their families like dirt.
These are the men that rule over other peoples lives. Makes me shudder!

do you believe that you "should" help witnesses get out of the "truth"?
I believe that if we can help a JW see the light AND the Witness is so inclined---we should help them, if it's within our power.
I will second that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! wanna(Who has already helped a few get out)
i've been asked that question, and since i've been out of it for years (and away from this forum for some time) i have no idea.
can someone give me the latest figures?
stan
........Stan, what is the matter with you. If you wouldn't sleep through the meetings so often you'd know and I wouldn't have to jab you in the ribs to wake you up..........................your wife Betty

need some help... does anyone here have stories about the former "prophet" of the wts?
' i would like to incorporate some stories about him, personality traits, mannerisms, etc.
this play i would like to perform in the future at apostatefests.
I met Freddie in the late seventies at the Norval assembly hall. Bethel invited all pioneers to hear his talk. It was long and I only remember one thing he said at the end. "Brothers enjoy your roast beef today because there isn't going to be any in the new world."
I sat across him after eating the roast beef dinner. He was wearing an old suit and a very loud tie and old shoes.

it was announced at this week's sm, that next year there will be special conventions for 2006. .
only a "select few" delegates from various countries will be able to go.. they will be hosted in europe.. the qualifications?.
you must currently be a pioneer and have served 15 years or.
Also the specific countries were not mentioned. Can't trust those dubs. They may crash an assembly unvited, and what a sin that would be.

first of all, sorry for being so late with my update.my wife got up at 8 am this morning so i didn't have the opportunity to be alone for a while.. as for the meeting last night, the elder was very civil, actually commended me for writing my questions down.he never made threaths, asked me if i read apostate material or if i still considered myself a jw.. we started with the 607 question.he will not believe any research beyond the wt's but said he'd do more research on it(all wt) so i guess that will go no where.he believes that ctr got it right by using the bible so i told him if it was figured out 130 years ago,it should be very simple to explain today.the only time he looked stunned was when i showed him from the wt that they once believed that jesus' presence began in 1874.he said he had never read that and tried to walk around it even when i asked him if jehovah wanted his people to believe something that wasn't true.. we beat around a few other questions with nothing concrete coming out of it.he did take my list home with him and said he'd look at them more carefully to get some scriptural answers.i also got the feeling that my wife got a spiritual boost from his visit which was very disheartening to me.anyways,i'm going to work on this 607 thing and see how things go.my wife asked me if i felt like we got somewhere and i said no.beibg told that something is the truth just because the wt says so just doesn't convince me anymore.. i'm attaching my questions, hopefully they show up here.thanks everybody,i feel really down, like i'm wasting my time.i've been wanting to run from this religion for years and here i am still fighting to prove my points.. goldminer.
p.s.-question files won't load-sorry.
Talk to the elder who said that he wont accept any research outside WT and ask him to prove the 607 date using only the watchtower publications.
He will end up smack dab at the insight publication that discusses the moabite stone, which is unfortunately outside information.
The process of astronomical dating is used to establish any and every historical date. The watchtower uses it too. ( or rather misuses).
The whole point is is that watchtower relies on outside sources. Point out to the elder that if he refuses outside sources he is really going against watchtower.
Good luck

http://www.mealsmatter.org .
this is a free site, and has a really cool meal planning tool.
you can add recipes, or select the ones from their database and plan out meals for the week..and then add the ingredients to a shopping list.
Thanks Eyebrow2,
Looks like a pretty good site. I need all the help I can get.
