To get back to the original question, Did this really happen? The answer is, the torture and killing did, the slanderous things about Hillary Clinton and Bill Lan Lee did not. It's scary to me that people pass this kind of stuff around and some choose to believe it without any investigation, just because it happens to fit their already negative impression of the person(s) mentioned. Not saying that was the case here, you clearly were asking for confirmation, but I have seen this kind of thing go around, and not everyone bothers to confirm what they read. Urban legends at their worst.

A Decision Has Been Made
by Sentinel inthe decision does not come directly from me.
it comes from being married and having to do things sometimes that keep peace and harmony flowing.. it is time for me say goodbye to all of you here.
first let me thank all of you that have connected with me.

Best of luck to you in the rest of your life. However sad we may be to see you go, I'm sure we all understand the art of compromise that any marriage requires.
Peace.

A Few Thoughts On Barred Posters.
by Englishman inthere are posters that are naturally disruptive and attacking in their behaviour, and after a while their departure is greeted with relief by most folk here.
we've all had experience of people like that.. my biggest concern is for the poster who is simply amazingly volatile, yet is actually a big-hearted person beneath all of the bravado.
i think of them as "garbage mouths", because they just can not contain themselves, especially when they have had a few drinks or the adrenaline is running on high.. maybe it would be a good idea, if, rather than actually barring someone, they were to receive a compulsory "time-out" period, say of 7days or so.

As a relatively new member to the board, I may not have much to say, but I want to go on record that there have definitely been people I have read on this site that a short de-activation period would not work for. I am not going to name names, it's not necessary, but if someone is so enflamed that they will create many user names just to prove they can get back on the board whenever they want, that person would probably not benefit for long from a cooling off period. I think Simon and the moderators are doing a great service, it has been invaluable to me, and it's their playground, so I will play by their rules. I have been introduced to some fascinating people and thoughts, and I am really grateful to have found this forum.
Thanks to all the people who post here, you have added a new dimension to my way of thinking.

Welcome, and thanks for sharing your story. May I applaud your bravery in stating what you believed in your heart, despite knowing what those people would try to do to you. I am amazed all the time by these stories of courage, and hope one day my family will have their own stories to tell of leaving.
See you around, I'm sure.

What to do when your family DOESN'T shun you...
by logansrun inall right, i'm not dfd or dad; i just "walked away.
" all my friends, save one, completely ignore me and basically shun me (the word on the street is i'm an apostate :) ).
but my family, all hard-core jws except my more liberal mother, is causing some unsettling feelings.

Very good advice, LB.
Logansrun, just remember, it won't hurt anything to wait a while, and it could prevent your making a rash decision that you will come to regret. While I feel similar about my family's smug and superior attitude, and do sometimes get tired of their "subtle" attempts to get me back, I still have more fun with them than anyone else in the world, and don't want to do anything that would curtail the time we spend together. I walked away more than 10 years ago, and while my so called "friends" within the congregation won't have anything to do with me, my family is worth their weight in gold. Give it another 6 months or so, then if you still feel the same way, do what you think is best.

Examples in the Bible?
by happyout ini am not in a position to do research on this, but maybe someone can help me out.
dubs don't celebrate birthdays because the two examples in the bible were negative, right?
well, each time jesus went into a "temple", didn't he have a negative experience?

I definitely want to know God, if only to understand why things are the way they are. I may not believe everything the way it's written in the Bible, as a matter of fact, I definitely don't, but I do believe there is an intelligent creator, and I want to know about that being. I also want to know what, if anything, is next.

I am not in a position to do research on this, but maybe someone can help me out. Dubs don't celebrate birthdays because the two examples in the Bible were negative, right? Well, each time Jesus went into a "temple", didn't he have a negative experience? He went postal one time, and destroyed the place, right? How do these examples show religious buildings? Shouldn't we stay away from them, too? Like I said, I can't research this myself right now, but if someone could let me know if my memory is correct on what happened when Jesus was in the temple, I would really appreciate it?
Thanks!!
