because jehovah created the universe so grand, to him belong the earth and sky, the work of his own hand....... ummm ummm no....I never have K melodies pop in my head. LOL !! There are 2 of the songs that would remind me of some disney music and I would have to go to the mens room for fear my laughter would blurt out.

i do from time to time, i love music you can take any key and there will be a kingdom song that starts with it.
that is how i learned how to play a harmonica was by remembering the tunes of jehovah's witness's.

I remember years and years of trying to "block out" holiday music. But I do remember "secretly" enjoying the Eagles and their rendition of "Please Come Home for Christmas" throughout my witness years. I still catch myself from time to time wondering if a witness is seeing me looking at some obvious christmas store in the mall etc. I am now FINALLY teetering on the edge of I dont give a crap, but the old witness drill sargents did a good job because this stuff still lurks in the dark areas of the brain.

Ok, I know this has already been posted directly and indirectly. Now that we are getting into the holiday season. How did you feel the first time you set holiday decorations at your home. Was it different for lifers (those born and raised) as compared to those who became witnesses (after having celebrated holidays before they became witnesses and now celebrate once again).

I was a dub for many many years, and even when I was at my "best" as a witness (out every weekend, studies, public talks, yadda yadda yadda) deep down inside I never never thought I was gonna "make it" through armageddon anyway. Doubtless the rampant depression and the like is the all too common side effect of this fear that many still in have. I am much happier. I am not constantly worried about my FS time. I am not worried if some bible study is just using the situation to prey on friends for money etc. I go to the gym three nights a week. And those used to be two of my meeting nights and one night that was "bible study" fridays. Now looking back I wonder how I survived it all and kept some semblance of sanity. I just want to thank you all for your comments and thought provoking questions, your research, kind words and even the healthy bantering. Cheers, Taz

THEY'VE DONE IT!!!! The WBTS set a new date!
by dmouse inthe latest watchtower, dec 15th 2003, is an out and out attack on the rank and file for dropping into a drowsy state spiritually.
ok, so armageddon didn't come before the generation of 1914 grew old and died.
but does that mean that the big a isn't near?

Damn, 2034.....I will be 74 years old then. I hope I make it on that extreme makeover show before then. I think armageddon is gonna come in 2034 and everyone is going to be suprised when it is only strippers and their patrons are the only ones saved. I better make sure I make it to all the "meetings" of stripper appreciators society. I believe their food in due season is hot wings and beer. No donation boxes just $10 at the door and a dollar in a g-string at a time.

Elders misusing donations for "the Worldwide Work" in Oz
by ozziepost inthe december issue of "kingdom ministry" for australia carries this announcement:.
"as a reminder to the brothers handling the congregation accounts, donations placed in the boxes for the worldwide work are to be remitted monthly and should not be used for payment on a kingdom hall property loan or for any other congregation expense.".
fancy that!

BUT EVERYONE MUST REMEMBER: WE DO NOT PASS A GOLD PLATE AROUND TO COERCE DONATIONS LIKE THE CHURCHES OF CHRISTENDOM !!!!!! LOLOLOLOL
No, all we have is a plethora of boxes to coerce the already uneducated (college that is) witnesses to give their monies from what little they have and find a way to make it seem like they are putting something in each box. I dont know if they are still stressing that since we pick up the literature without cost that witnesses should donate what they "feel" the literature is worth right after they pick it up. I do remember the stern talk that was given that if you donated to cover the cost of the literature when you picked it up that you should never ever ever re-coup this "up-front" monies from donations solicited by pocketing the amount you put up from monies recieved from the door. I remember one elders meeting where we decided to strategically place elders and servants near the donation box to "compell" them to donate for the literature when picked up. I know this "double paying" for the literature has been the subject of many posts etc. But I remember it frosting my nuggets when it was being instituted and promoted by the society.

I remember sitting in many an elders meeting at the circuit assemblies. It is very very typical to "donate" the surplus from the previous assembly to the society. I remember a loooong elders meeting where the circuit overseer told us to donate all our surplus to the society. We argued that we needed to keep X amount of dollars in the circuit fund. The CO admonished us to only leave $1,000 in the circuit fund. Then we need to give to the CO car fund....even though every congregation in the circuit does so on a local level. I know we used to make quite a bit of money on food service. I wonder why they TRULY got rid of food service at assemblies. The platform given reason was that there was too many brothers and sisters missing portions of the program. I half wonder if any of the assemblies or the ORG was ever sued cause someone got sick or something on assembly food. I know that EVERY assembly I attended we would always have a "created" defecit to announce both on Saturday and ALWAY announced on Sunday. It was a know fact that many many publishers saved their assembly donation for Sunday. And they would NOT announce if the 10k was met by the announcements before the WT study on Sunday. This would slow down donations. I know of pioneers and elderly the were compelled to give more more more because of these announcements and tactics. It always bothered me, but like one of the other posters noted: you dont see it clearly til you are on the outside. Just another note. It would be interesting how much a CO or DO gets in palmed donations "so he and his wife could get a decent meal at a restaurant" while they attended the assembly.

I just had my first "annual" visit since leaving over 3 years ago. Someone in my family told me elder so and so stopped to see me. So I knew they were on my trail. Then I stopped home quickly one day and one of the elders that was assigned was working that exact area and so made his call. It was brief and I said I am not interested in returning. The elder (a former best friend and fellow elder) was very polite, not snippy or condescending. I appreciated that. I just wonder what other experiences are out there when and if you got your "annual" visit.

Man, I still remember all the grief I would get from various employers because I wouldnt donate to the United Way. One factory I worked at had a huge guy in the electrical dept that was the factory United Way coordinator. He was pushing for the 100% participation. He nearly kicked the crap outta me for not signing up. Tremendous peer pressure and organizational pressure not to donate to the United Way because they supported homosexuals and boyscouts etc etc. Unbelievable !!!!!!!
