DID YOU ENJOY SHERHERDING CALLS?

when a problem arises, elders are supposed to be there.

Personally I found them to be pathetic. For fifteen years I was married to an abusive witness man, and called the Elders many, many times for help. In every congregation we ever attended in each state we lived, the Elders would tell my husband "If you don't stop treating your wife this way, you could be disfellowshipped". Excuse me for yawning....but it got to be tedious. To say that same schpeal for fifteen long years, view my bruises, my tears, my cries for help, and never to actually do what they said "could" happen, really ticked me off. Not to say that I thought his being df'd would actually change his behavior towards me, but if Elders are going to make threats, shouldn't they at some point act on what they say? Elders never came to our house/or my house after I divorced the S.O.B to just "sheperd or encourage". It was always about the abuse, or to tell me after my divorce that I wasn't turning in enough field service time, even though I was caring for my six children all on my own, no child support, no help. They had the NERVE to tell me I should be turning in more time?! HA! No one ever offered to help, no one ever offered to pick up one or more of my kids to make it easier on me to go out in service, no one invited us for dinner to socialize and build "brotherhood friendships", .......yawn..Sheperding calls for me were just plain pathetic. Each elder in each new congregation told me "if I'd been the Elder in that situation, I'd .....". Yeah, whatever. I've heard that bit a million times and grew tired of it. When I finally decided to divorce my husband, the Elder closest to the situation and the C.O that I'd never seen before showed up at my house to "remind" me that I wasn't "free to remarry". Another yawn....I simply told them they can leave. :0) Man, that felt good to tell them to leave! Grrrrrrrrrr

How to get family to read COC?

i hope my formating is ok.. i was born jw in 1972 and baptised when i was 16. my parents, older brother, and younger sister are still jw; however .
my younger brother left around the same time i did.

Welcome to the board TTBoy. I'm relatively new here too, and I can say it's been great for me. The previous posts are right, you can't make jw relatives read the book. All you can do right now is read it yourself and become more and more knowledgeable on the various jw subjects so that when opportunities arise, you "will be able to give a response"....Oh man, where did that line come from? LOL I was born and raised a jw, and left the org in '95. Third generation jw, and all of my family except for one brother still are jw's, so I'm shunned by them all. Again, welcome to the board!

Hi Bill,
Ladylee is right, finding lambs in stores is becoming more and more difficult, but we'll keep looking. I've been searching for them online too. I had thought I'd found some on Amazon.com, and actually placed an order, but the order was cancelled because the lambs are out of stock and discontinued. Ugh. We're working on it though. Walking the walk? Most definitely! ROAR!!!!

How Have U Changed since Leaving?

not being a jw nor even a believer anymore has made a subtle change that ive observed.
to begin with, i read somewhere that people tend to bring their own standards to their religion.

I was born and raised a JW and left the Org in '95 officially when I wrote a letter to the Elders telling them where they can go. Having been born and raised into it, I found myself feeling very much alone for awhile. I only have one brother who is also df'd that I communicate with, but he lives in Barcelona Spain, other than him I have no immediate family anymore, besides him and two neices and their mother. For awhile I was really hurt to be shunned by those who claim to love me, but I realized I don't have a need for conditional love. I have always been a very strong woman, and have survived child abuse, molestations, abuse at the hands of my now ex-husband, etc. I simply began doing alot of the things I was never allowed to do but really enjoy doing: Dancing in clubs, singing and recording, and finally found a wonderful man I'm marrying in May of next year. Being Df'd and shunned is something I just needed to adjust to, just like the other horrible things I've lived through. I'm doing great now, and have a vast amount of good friends, some that used to be jw's and participate in these discussion boards. The only "vice" I've taken up since leaving the Org is smoking. It's my rebellion I guess. But I'm so happy being out, I wish I'd seen the light much sooner.

growing up scared of Armageddon
by bittersweet ini was just curious if any of you growing up in the truth were overly scared of armageddon?.
when my mom came into the org.
in the 70's,the only so called kids book was the paradise lost book.the pictures in that book scared the pants off me!at night when i was lying in bed,if i would hear a loud plane go over head,or there was a thunder storm,i was sure it was the start of armageddon and i would be sooooo scared.i was wondering if i was the only one overly scared,or if their were others.. also,was anyone out there extremely frightened of the demons?i would hear all these crazy experiences of people having problems with demons,and i was sooo frightened they would come bother me.maybe i was just a big old scaredycat,but if any one else has any experiences,please post them!

How to help a friend?

but i thought that this subject was important enough to start a topic and i hope some of you will be able to give me some good advice.. to set the scene: a very close friend of mine is a nurse training to be an anaesthetist.
he recently had a jw call on him and he'd invited him in and they'd discussed the blood issue.

I understand your concern about what could likely happen to you personally. You definitely could/would be df'd if you are found out. But at the same time, you don't want to see him get reeled into the cult. I suggest telling him that you understand his curiosity and wanting to go to a meeting to check it out, but that before he does that or before he allows anyone else to come to his home that he should do some research into the JW's and Ray Franz book is a definite must, and perhaps Barbara Anderson's story, amongst others who have first-hand knowledge of the inner workings of the headquarters and policies and decision makers. I've come to realize that the need to help others may very likely put us directly in the line of fire, and we must decide what is most important to us, possibly being found out or helping protect our friends. WT holds no power over me at all, I wanted to be df'd and have that name removed from me forever.

That is awesome! I've tried to get even just the little lamb logo, but I guess I haven't figured out how yet. Would you please explain where you got it, how you downloaded it and from what page on silentlambs? I've been looking and looking!
What I have done is put flyers on my side windows with the silentlambs web address, plus I have two stuff lambs displayed in my car. I've seen lots of people reading and looking. I've been distributing the flyers everywhere I go. But, how do we download what you found?
