Have you ever said anything embarassing by saying the wrong word because of what you were thinking about?
I once saw a very hot guy come into the restaurant where I work. As he was walking in I was thinking how much I loved his eyes (as well as some other things). He came up to the counter and I stepped up and said "Can I love you?!" I will never live it down with my coworkers.
Also, one time my daughter and I were shopping for shoes. We went in one store and she found a pair she liked but she wanted to keep looking so she went to the counter to ask if the extremely cute salesguy would hold them for her. I was waiting just outside the store when she practically ran out of the store and said "Lets go!" We were about halfway down the mall when she told me that she had gone up to the counter and asked, "Will you hold me?".
I guess losing control of our tongues around hot guys is something we have in common.
Anyone else? C'mon fess up. els

WHY YOU LOVE THIS BOARD
by hamptonite21 ini decided to start this thread, because so many time we go at each other because of difference of opinion.
( myself included ) but yet for me i love this place.
i love the different opionions, they make me think, i love the freedom of expression, the friendships, and the expriences that make this a special healing place.

I love this place because there are so many different people here. Individuality was not cherished in the witnesses so we should value it here, even when we don't agree with someone.
I love this place because I'm not judged here, and I am starting to learn the facts behind what I always felt about the "truth", that it's not the truth at all.
I love this place because I was very depressed when I came here and now I'm not as much anymore. dsgal said, "how many psychiatrists are X Jw's. I thought about going to a counseler but I didn't really think they would understand. Everyone here understands. els -

PAGAN SYMBOLS & THE BORG
by Mary in.
does the society have any sort of explanation as to why they condone absolutely ever pagan symbol in relation to all the worldly holidays, but allow all christians to wear a wedding ring, a totally pagan symbol that originated in egypt?.
or are we showing a lack of faith by asking such a question..........

els
Can't have married JW's running around with no wedding ring now can we? Someone might tempt them and you know they can't handle temptation, that's why they avoid it at all costs. els

When to put up Christmas decorations?
by Simon in.
the kids are very keen on having a christmas tree and some decorations.. is there any date these are supposed to go up or are we going to look really silly having it up mid november ?
-
els
We didn't start doing a tree until about 5 years ago when the kids were arready 13 and 16. I wish I had done it when they were little instead of worrying about what my family would think. We do ours two weeks before Christmas and take it down right after New Years Day. As I am being shunned this year I think I am going to put up lots of lights outside so they will be visible from the road. I have always just done the inside. Well no more hiding for me. els

I suspect this will sound wierd
by buckthesystem ini have been reading about the witnesses for some time - but the information i read is always massively biased against.
it is even hard to tell if this web site is exclusively designed for aggrieved ex-witnesses.
i am at a loss here.

A religion that expects you to accept losing your entire family simply because you don't accept that the religion you grew up in is the truth.

Moana, Where are you from? Just the general area would do. Maybe someone here is close to you. I'm from upstate NY near Vermont. I'm sorry what you are going through. Hang in there and don't do anything too extreme. els

Third World War
by Crystal init looks like we might really be going to war (they voted against us) iraq is getting an antidote for nerve gas (sounds like they are preparing) i fear that israel will drop a bomb on them.if this happens all hell will break loose.
does anyone know if they will start drafting?

My son's Army Reserve unit has been notified that they will be called up if we do go to war. He hasn't finished his traing yet, he has to go to AIT next summer after he graduates, but if they are still there, he could be going. Right now I'm very glad he's color blind so he can't be in combat, he'll either be administation or engineering. War was never this personal to me before. els

six degrees of separation..claim to fame!
by asortafairytale in.

Richard Petty is my 6th or 7th cousin. At least that's what my brothers figured out.
My husband was handling the spotlight in his high school production of Oklahoma in which Meryl Streep was the star. There was a turn in the dancing and he totally missed her with the spotlight. She was not real happy. His older brother graduated with her.
Robert Redford almost bought the land across the road from my inlaws on Block Island. sigh... I wish he had because he would have kept it in one piece instead of subdividing it. Besides I could maybe have bumped into him.
I waited on Andy Roonie at the restaurant where I work. He has a place on Lake George in NY state. He dresses like a bum so people won't recognize him.
When my husband was doing construction he was tearing apart an old house in Dorset, VT and Dom Delouis owned the house behind it. He came over to pick through the junk and took the old bathroom sink home with him.

What Is The Hardest Thing About Leaving The Truth?
by minimus inif you've left or are considering leaving the "truth", what is the most difficult thing that you must deal with?
is it losing family or friends?
is it feeling isolated?
-
els
Losing my family is the worst. One letter to my parents to tell them something I knew they wouldn't approve of and I got a letter back basically saying, if that's your decision then so be it. Same thing from one sister. Nothing from my other sister, my three brothers, any of my inlaws, or my nieces or nephews. It's been four months and it's like I dropped of the face of the earth. Makes me wonder if any of them are capable of any kind of love if they can forget me that easily. els
