You are all forgetting one thing. Jehovah's Holy Spirit. It is this Holy Spirit which directs people to the positions of responsibility in the organization.
Is that Watchtowerese for kissing as much elder, CO, DO a$$ as you possibly stand or what?
for the case of our own "theocratic war strategy" how many here would be willing to go back to the.
kingdom hall, put on a fake pretense of being in line with the org, try to be reinstated.
go out in service,.

it's quite draining to have your "bs" detector running on high alert for 4 straight hours, so, by the time the clapping was done for all the baptism candidates filing out to change clothes, i'd managed to move it's setting to low power standby.
after a recharge of sandwiches, chips, washed down by now room temperature soda, i decided that i'd take a walk around the general area.
inside the perimeter area of the astrodome, jw's young and old had filed out and filled the area.
If I were in New Orleans where the Superdome is located, it's quite possible that I'd have made a run for it to one of the local eateries.
But, alas, the Astrodome is about 400 miles to the west, and the eateries around it suck.

Risot
Don't remember that particular incident. Must've happened on one of the days I wasn't there. I would've love to have posted osmething like that here.

Inside the perimeter area of the Astrodome, JW's young and old had filed out and filled the area. The attendants and the ladies mannig the many contribution boxes were conspicously in the periphery of the area. As i walked around, I noticed pallets of boxes placed close to the exits guarded by attendants. Inside those boxes I surmised that there were the new Great Teacher book. Great numbers of young brothers were milling about, shaking hands and talking amongst themselves while out of the corner of their eyes, checking out the sisters whose tight young bodies appeared to have been poured into their form fitting pastel colored dresses with plunging necklines. The meat market had opened; The hunt was definetely on.
Halfway around and having grown tired of trying to weave my way through the masses of overperfumed and overdressed flesh, I decided I'd turn around and head back to my seat. As my luck would have it, I got caught behind two elderly ladies who'd apparently lost their way from the elderly\disabled area. They both shared a single walker with wheels that wobbled as they slowly moved through the crowd. I couldn't help but think that it was highly likely that these were pioneer partners who've probably told an unknown number of people that they would never grow old and die in this system, giving everything they had to the organization.........and look at them now, slowly shuffling through the corridors of the Astrodome long after those printed words have become "old Light", the younger generation of witnesses passing around them fast and furiously as if they're invisible, oblivious to the sacrifice these elderly ladies and by extension they will be required to make in pursuit of the WT paradise pipe dream.
Back at my seat, with my belly now feeling the effects of lunch, the droning, monotone, manuscripted speeches resumed. Drifting in and out of consciousness, my "BS" detector ripped into high alert once more when the speaker expressed the need for humility and a forgiving giving spirit amongst Jehovah's People. They again shamelessly plugged how they were Oh-so- helpful to victims of Allison, the rainstorm that put the city of Houston underwater two years ago and how money poured in from witnesses around the world. Yeah-Right!!!!! What they failed to mention was that all the supplies they used were either donated, or bought at very reduced rates using government grants, stored in donated space, all the labor was provided free by brothers in the building industry. They also failed to mention that it took anywhere from 6 to 8 months for them to finish the work on individual homes and that after it was finished, you were presented with an invoice detailing all the hardware used with a total of what the retail cost of what those items would've been. Of course, this total was a suggested donation amount. The JW's I know showed much humility and giving spirit in the way they were bitching about how much the WT was expecting from them monetarily, while at the same time, those who had it, using their insurance windfalls buying big ticket items they'd, under normal circumstances, never be able to afford. I happen to know that there were a lot of "shepherding call" going on to certain peoople who were "helped" by this arrangement. There was a lot more to this story than they were willing to admit.
The apparent highlight of the afternoon session revolved around a fiery talk given by the convention overseer entitled "Beware the Voice of Strangers" where he basically declared war on apostates. He shared the example of how loyal JWs should be sheeplike listening only to the voice of their shepherd and how they would actually flee from the voice of strangers. He likened strangers as being demon inspired, originating with Satan. Strangers whose strange and vile ideas coupled with their abusive speaking of the "truth" served only to undermine and draw people away from the faith. His first and primary target of the hangout of these "strangers" was....you guessed it........THE INTERNET. He warned against the indiscriminant use of the internet and the exposure to media coverage critical of the faith, likening them to inviting faith killing strangers into your home.
In an almost Baptist preacher-like way, he likened anything not inspired by the "slave class" as indistinct trumphet calls from Christendom. Again, my "BS" detector went into orbit. With all of the flip-flopping doctrines, opinions, doublespeak, doublethink, outright lying and hypocrisy that's been exposed about the WTS in the past 20 years that I've been aware of their existence. A 120 year of historic "new lights" sitting next to their almost blatant hyposcrisy in "doing the nasty" with the UN to me ws cler evidence that they are as convaluted in their "trumphet call" as any organization they lump together as a part of Christendom.
The days activities ended with a rather long-winded and way over time given talk about requests on how the "slave class" could bridge the information gap with the young ones in the audience. And with that, a brand spanking new publication was released, complete with instructions on how to use this book with the 6-10 age group. The sspeaker was rather longwinded in his synopsis of the book yet stated that there would be a copy for eveyone upon their exit from the facility.
A song was sang.......
A prayer was offered......
And all the JWs dutifully gave the obligatory round of applause, robotically signally that they thoroughly enjoyed the days "spiritual meal".
I left the Astrodome that day with a renewed sense of freedom. Gone was the feeling that I had somehow slipped and was reminded of how I should apply a whole new set of principles in my life; gone was the feeling that I was less a person because I wasn't pioneering, acting as a servant, or reaching out; gone was the feeling that even though it was excrutiating to be there, that I had to pretend that I'd enjoyed myself, that the information was so timely, that the information presented and the association was a virtual spiritual banquet. Once again, the man behind the curtain revealed himself to me, I could actually see through the looking glass, the emperor actually had no cloths. The WTS truly is nothing more than a real estae holding and book publishing business who has successfully transformed itself, to loyal rank and file JW, a religion.....the "truth".
On they way home, loving freedom, loving life, with the bright sun shining down on my face, the wind in my hair, my wife sitting in the passenger seat turned to me and asked, "well, what did you think of the assembly?".
With a sly smile and a chuckle in my heart, I responded, "honey, it truly was EVERYTING I expected it to be."
in fact, it is very, very soon.
my jw honey came back from the meeting with this earth-shattering announcement.
he is prancing around the house with this new-found knowledge that i have not had the priveledge to hear, understand, or appreciate.. got any good comeback lines?
Again.....
Dammnit I wish it'd hurry up and get here then !!
ALL THIS WAITING REALLY SUX !!!!!
well prodigal jw husband came home last night from his jw field trip back up north.
we had the house all cleaned and daddy was on the way home from the airport...but didnt show up.
i knew immediately where he was.
I decided to take the high moral ground on this one. And some of you might think Im selling out...but I love this man of 16 years of marriage, I would NOT be happier with him out of my life and if what will fix this is me getting rid of my books ( I have what...like 4 of them???) and getting rid of my screen name on AOL that has been my AntiJW antagonist name for 7 years...I think I can do that.
As long as you're not being physically threatened, I salute you in your efforts to to save your marriage.
But I fear that in your quest to take the moral high ground and making a concession without a clear indication that he's even interested in reciprocating in any way will embolden him to intensify the use this "spoiled brat" tactic to force the JW issue even further.
I hope for your sake that what you're doing will not serve to reinforce that "wall of granite".
the opening talk again discussed taking notes, but this time recomended all to take brief notes to have handy for the convention review in the autumn.
can't make their minds up.... "removing the veil from those blinded" we were given instructions to start a bible study on a return visit.
this was not just recomendations, but specific procedure to be used.
Well, I typed a rather long synopsis of the Saturday Assembly in the Astrodome in Houston but both times, the post disappeared once I tried posting it.
I'll not try it again.
Suffice to say that it was full of the same old mind numbing psychobable which sent my BS detector on high alert from the duration of the sessions.
Most interesting was the talk entitiled beware the voice of Strangers where the convention overseer all but declared war o apostates.
i went to the ggg district a$$embly this past saturday as a courtesy to my wife.
we entered the building just as they weresaying th e prayer.
about the time we had taken our seats and was getting comfortable, my "bullshit detector" tripped, went into high alert and pretty much stayed t here for the duration of the session.
I heard the speaker say during his discussion of the daily text that it ws the free gift of the "truth" that Jehovah gave to mankind, to which all the loyal dubs shook their head in the affirmative. Funny, all this time I thought it was Christ and his sacrificial death that was mankinds gift of salvation.
There appeared to be new instructions for a way to drive up those sagging bible study numbers bya technique they introduced as "doorstep studies"; ex. after leaving a tract with a householder youpose a question to be answered the following week. The following week you come back spend about 30 minutes answering that question and pose another to be answered the following week. This type of activity can now be counted as a bible study. Are they allowed to count this same visist as a RV also? Are they informing the householder of this little charade, namely that they are being covertly recruited.
The theme of the morning session was reflecting God's glory by always being on the alert and always zealously looking for preaching opportunities. They drove this home by the recounting of the "well rehearsed experience" method.
The first example was of a little girl whose parents after choosing not to go in service, took it upon herself to defy her parents decision and go out door to door alone. Shocked that they'd use this as an example, I turned to my wife and asked her in this day and age of kids daily being snatched off the street how can they in good conscious use this as an example with impressionable young kids in the audience; her answer;"the point of the story was the zealousness the girl showed toward the preaching work." I answered " so, by WT standards if it is in the interest of the "kingdom work" it is OK faor a chile to defy the authority of her parents and put herself in mortal danger..........rrrriiiiiggghhhhhtttt?
After my BS detectoe calmed down and i was able to again consciously focus what was going on they had an auxiliary pioneer elder from somewhere in SouthTexas on the mike recounting some well rehearsed experience who proclaimed proudly that his 9 yr old daughter had "decided" to take a stand for the "truth" and was getting baptised that very day. So much for them not baptising babies and ensuring that everything is known about what they are getting into. I couldn't help but t hink what will happen to this girl WHEN she makes a mistake, is possible df'd, or simply chooses not to be involved in the "faith" any longer where she'll be shunned, isolated, and possibly kicked out of the house.
What I was able to focus on next was them having a 82 yr old lady who'd been in service for 40 years and an older missionary couple where the wife had just survived a bout with cancer. both currently being housed and cared for by the WT. I shudder to think what will happen to these people when their usefulness to the WTS has run out.
My attention was eventually directed to the baptism seating area where about 200 people were sitting. to the JW's credit there was a cross-section of people of different ethnic backgrounds and age variances. I did specifically notice that there were a handful of people who were clearly of pre-teen years who obviously had no idea what they were getting themselves into. My thoughts again went to the 9 yr old girl elder's daughter and how it's quite possible that her perception of being a JW will change as she grows and what effect that change will have on not only her, but also, on all these kids who so young have been maneuvered to believing that they are mature enough to make what in all probability will be the most important decision of their lives.
They had three baptism pools set up. I saw brothers walking around the pool pouring about three gallons of straight bleach into each pool. The concentrated smell of bleach permeated the air even three levels up where we were seated. I can only imagine what that smell must be like closer to the pool area.
The next talk dealt with instructions on how JW's are to face trials and how they are hated without cause. Basically, if there is not a faviourable response to their preaching work and questions are asked whose answers may reflect negatively upon the organization it is was implied that they (JW) are facing trials and hate is being directed at them.
They had a brother who recounted his experience with the draft board and a few military officers during the draft of the Vietnam War. I questioned for what reason ws this relative and being used since "alternative service" is now a conscious decision which in itself is a 180 turn from past "old" light'.
Then came the obligatory remember this day, this is a most important day, you're disowning yourself, never renege on this dedication to J admonitions that we've all heard before...yadda...yadda...yadda.....blah...blah....blah......and then the baptism questions.
"...........in association with his spirit directed organization......"
"YES"
And with that, about 200 more people pledged their allegiance and dedication to a group of old dried up geezers in Brooklyn and their organization.
Morning session head count 23,400 including at least one person, me, who was by then ashamed that he'd wasted a perfect good Saturday morning being there and wishing he was home doing almost anything else. Yet, it was comforting to know that with that number attending, it was a far cry from the 30,000 or so that was there when I, oh so ignorantly, took the plunge in the late eighties.
I'll try to get the other half out later. There ws a fiery talk where the convention overseer all but declared was on Apostates.

does anyone want to bet that they'll be using this at the end of the a$$embly as a witness to how great and united they are?

when i got home from work last night my son was there and i was suprise to see him because it was meeting night and everyone else was gone.
then his mother comes in hmmmmmm "did your son tell you what he has done?
" nope well he has been having sex with his girlfriend the baptized pioneer elders daughter yikes my son (not baptized) and her were girlfriend and boyfriend untill her daddy stop them from seeing each other.
Then they ask who bought the condoms, because that proves who is the instigator (and lets the elders daughter off the hook).
I'm sorry, but unless she was kidnapped and her knees tied to her elbows, just exactly how does this get her off the hook? If he brought condoms, he was doing exactly what they would expect an unbaptised "worldly" to do. It should've been her, being the "pioneer elder daughter" and all who should be held to that bull____ atrificially high standard.
Safe sex comment was right on. Good job.
In this age of unwanted pregnancies and aids, I wholeheartedly agree.
I would not let him meet with the elders at all, he is not baptized and there is no obligation for him to take their crap.Agreed. And if the wife steps in and tries to make him, use their own rules against them to protect your son. Pull out the headship card and if the elders feel the need to ask him any questions, tell them to take a flying leap!
