What steps did you take to free yourself from the cult? mentally or physically?

first i ignored all of the elders phone calls to send my recommendation letter to my new congregation, truth is i had already started my fade and moved across town and didn't have a new congregation.

i deleted all jw friends on facebook.

i also threw away all of my public talks recorded on cd, all literature, even my book bag and my bible.

Very little of 58 years as a JW remains as part of me, thankfully.

I'm with you Phizzy on how I freed myself from the clutches of the borg. I also spent about 58 years as a captive. It's pretty damn hard to free yourself from the only thing you ever allowed yourself to know and believe! The pain of facing the reality that the WTBTS is all a hoax was damn near unbearable after devoting nearly 6 decades of your life.

However, when things within the borg started failing the 'sniff test', that's when I did the unthinkable and started looking into the roots of jw's. The rest is history. I discovered the WTBTS to be very much a man made religion (as they all are) born at a time when people were less educated and/or less informed making them vulnerable.

Once freed from the borg mentally, it was easy to see that all religion and "holy books" are simply bull sh*t! To me the Bible is simply Hebrew mythology and nothing more.

Getting free mentally was the most important thing I found.

Question About David

1 samuel 15:22 famous wt verse emphasizing obedience.. if saul was severely disciplined for offering a burnt sacrifice, then what's going on with david in 2 samuel 6?.

17they brought the ark of the lord and set it in its place inside the tent that david had pitched for it, and david sacrificed burnt offerings and fellowship offerings before the lord.

18 after he had finished sacrificing the burnt offerings and fellowship offerings, he blessed the people in the name of thelord almighty.

who was the president of the first century christian congregation after jesus death , , the secretary ,the treasurer ,the field overseer ,the district overseer ,who were the lawyers protecting the congregations from secular authorities ,the mogul`s of real estate , buying up land and getting christians to build places of worship with free labor and then selling them off for a profit a few years down the track , with nothing going back to those who laboured on those projects .. where are the records on papyrus , that the 1st century witnesses counted their hours ,made return visits ,bible studies ,oops the bible wasnt even formulated then ,that didn`t occur until apostate christendom in the 3rd century came up with a number of books to be inspired ..

John Mason was a bona-fide as*hole. He served around the San Jose area in CA. No one looked forward to his 'visit' and the servant body felt like they'd been "rode hard and put away wet" after his visit. Self righteous prick is the best way to describe him! But he was a company man.

The best was an old guy name Jim Waddington. He loved little kids, which I had 4 of, and everyone loved him. When he came to your home for a meal, he never talked jw stuff. Talked current events, family events, and sports. Loved that old guy!

Ridiculous ways you kept your "time going" in service?

i used to go out early mornings with 2 pioneer elders, we would drive 20 miles out of the territory (a big no-no) to look for hikers to preach to lol of course there were never any hikers.

then off to starbucks for another hour lol easy way to count 2-4 hours.

i am chuckling as i write this, what a joke!.

I would say even much LESS than 1 billion hours!

There's a saying that; "even a blind squirrel finds an acorn once in a while." So if 8 million jw's are spending even 1 billion hours per year in fs, the number of converts per year should be much larger! Field service has become a formalistic regiment and nothing more.

My wife is part of a group of 4 sisters that always work together twice a week. They drive around to laundromats, bus stops, and coffee shops. They have bible studies with old women and troubled single moms. It's nothing more than a social circle that meets twice a week.

Elder's remark about contributions not being made

i am still in and was assigned to collect the contribution after the meeting.

i checked the boxes with another brother and there was nothing inside.

no contributions were made that day.

Why Marrying An Outsider Is NOT A Disfellowshipping "Offense"

marrying an unbeliever is considered to be wrong, but at the same time, it is not a disfellowshipping "offense".

well, the reason is simple: there is more to gain than to lose by not disfellowshipping.

So why not take the softer approach - make it permissible, with the hope that the believing one can eventually bring their mate AND any children that they may have into "the truth!"

So why not allow polygamy? By marrying multiple non-jw's, a jw could bring in a multitude to the borg!

"You Can Do Just Enough Ministry To Dislike It"

when you were "in" did you ever actually enjoy the ministry?

and i made no secret about it.

instead i would joke about me feather knocking, and made sure i had my bible in hand so as they come to the door they know what im about so they can shut me down before i even start.. i always wondered how or why there were people who enjoyed it.

Now that jw's have nothing tangible to sell at the door and there is no revenue being generated from fs, the emphasis on fs has subsided and as a result, most have lost there 'zeal'.

I always hated fs.

I left after 55 years because, 1) I 'evidently' got tired of standing on the 'threshold' of something that 'clearly' wasn't happening, 2) because I was finally able to admit that all the bullsh*t doctrines of the wt made no sense, 3) and various other "overlapping" reasons.
