I think it backs up a whole lot of people's ideas that all is not as religious leaders of all types would have you believe since, um, since the beginnings of organized religion!
The book makes some interesting assertions. They don't have to be true. But they aren't necessarily false, either. What's wrong with Jesus being married? It wouldn't change anything he said or did as far as I'm concerned. Would it be a propblem for you?
I saw a show on (I think) the history channel where they opined that a 33 year old Jewish man to be unmarried was extremely unusual. Siring sons to carry on the name and all that stuff, it was almost a mandatory thing for Jewish men to get married. So Jesus not being married at 33 would have been very unusual.
Also, they said that Mary Magdelene was NOT a prostitute but was painted with that brush by the early (probably that damn Clement) church leaders to remove some of her significance/power. They couldn't have a woman holding power instead of only men! Unthinkable! They had to "dog" MM to knock her down a peg or two.
Is it proveable? Who knows? Does it make you stop and go "Hmmm..."? Oh yes it does. Interesting book, nonetheless, I just wished they hadn't made that old English scholar-guy like some "Professor James Bond." Lessened its credibility for me.

The Da Vinci code
by sym inhi there - has anything been discussed/announced on this book by the jw's - i know other religious groups have.
i kind of think it backs up some jw beliefs that the church is built on ideas formulated by rome and not christ but that also it undermines the very basis of all christianity as well - i just imagined it being the type of book the elders would tell you not to read.
i remember when i used to go, there where lots of things we should not read or become educated on.

Could God have taken a "Short Cut"?
by JH insince billions of people suffer because of adam's sin, wouldn't there have been a better and faster way to solve the problem?.
after adam and eve's sin, why did god permit their descendants to become imperfect?
since manking has to become perfect once more during the millenium, for the only purpose of being tested once more by satan in order to obtain eternal life.. .

Interesting thought. Makes sense, too. And just why did A&E's descendants have to suffer for their parents' mistake? Kinda makes the scripture about a child not suffering for the parent's sin questionable and hypocritical, doesn't it?

Jesus foretold: "When you see Jerusalem surrounded by encamped armies, then know that the desolating of her has drawn near." He also said: "When you catch sight of the disgusting thing that causes desolation . . . standing in a holy place, . . . then let those in Judea begin fleeing to the mountains."
Isn't this more of a "Duh!" moment than keeping some vigilant watch? Let's see, the city is surrounded by hostile forces. "Duh!" There is some "disgusting thing" (a sewerage-monster or feces beast like in the movie 'Dogma'?) outside the place you live. "Duh!" Newsflash: It's time to hit the road, you idiot! Would these people need prodding into action if noticing someone with a sword or dagger standing behind them preparing to strike? "Duh!" No, of course not.
This, above, is only one of many instances in this article that seem to equate common sense with extreme vigilance and keeping on some kind of watch! It also seems to be written on an 8th grade reading level.
Did jesus have to tell folks to not touch the fire because it was hot? Not to put your hands into the mouth of a wolf or lion (except the beachball-playing lion ) or other such moronically simple caution? Jeez...

Does Jehovah protect his "people"?
by sonnyboy inan an exjw, i'm well aware of the fact that they arrogantly think they're god's only chosen people.. my family used to be frequently visited by an elder and his family.
my family strayed from "the truth", and they would constantly come to our home and try to get us back on the "straight and narrow" path.. so, what happened to this elder and his family?
their adult daughter was accused of having sexual relations with a 13 year old boy.

I've pondered this exact point many times, myself. I am not a JW but have a (girl)friend who is. Her health is total shit and has been for a while, starting about 2 years after baptism. (Co-incidence...?) She also belongs to a congregation where there seems to be an extremely high incidence of bad health and other associated negatives. If they are the J-man's #1, then why so much bad luck? And no respite in sight.
In fact, I am geting ready to go visit my squeeze in the hospital where she has been since yesterday. She woke all right but started having trouble early in the A.M. and her daughter called an ambulance to take her to emergency. There they found she was in a type of septic shock (!!!) and the family was consulted about resucitation and the like. Holy cow! Pretty serious for someone under the blanket of jehovah's protection. Why isn't jehovah watching over these people? Last time my friend was in the hospital there were no less than 3 other members of her cong in at the same time!
Looks to me to be a good reason/time to switch teams. Jehovah's team sucks!

by integ infriends, .
the new watchtower of july 15 '05..has on its cover "how can you find inner peace?
" let's see.....acoording to the article one can avail themself of this inner peace by believing and trusting in gods' promises, which promises are revealed by his "faithful slave".

-- Nothing spells "inner peace" for me more than to know that I have to base my entire life, and what I do with it, on an organization that has NEVER gotten anything right....except to say that; "thing's have gotten worse these days....see...we said that over 100 years ago" (and even that statement is debatable).
I like what someone posted in another thread a few days ago. When the "things have gotten so much worse" statement is made, respond with your own question as to exactly when would the person prefer to be living?
The Middle Ages? During the time of the Spanish Inquisition, Infuenza Plague, Crusades, rudimentary medical procedures? Before electricity and indoor plumbing? WHEN?!
I would be curious to hear just when this person who thinks things are so bad would prefer to live. Of course, depending on when they would pick, if they were above the age of 40 or so years old they'd not even have lived (probably) this long...

I actually pondered this the other day (am I sad or what?). If a woman has had the op and later becomes a ''brother'', would he be allowed to progress as a male in the Org (get PRIVELEDGES). I'd suspect not. BUT if a man had previously trans-gendered, by the same token she ought to be able to progress as a brother.
But .... what if they didn't know? Wouldn't it be interesting to see the faces if and when someone somehow found out that elder so-and-so was actually sister so-and-so?

2. March of World Powers: As recorded at Revelation 17:9-11, the apostle John mentions "seven kings," representing a succession of seven world powers. John also refers to "an eighth king," which now represents the United Nations.
Doesn't the complete and utter silliness of this assertion even raise an eyebrow when it is mentioned? The UN is a toothless, clawless, old outdated entity that can't find its own ass with both hands! The UN could never be considered a "king" or world power of any variety. How could this organization start a war (or whatever) that would result in it ruling the world? Ain't no way!
The very thought boggles the (realistic) mind.

Something the speaker said yesterday that got my wife thinking. Advice?
by PaNiCAtTaCk ini was working yesterday so i wasnt at the meeting but the speaker in his talk made comments about 1914 on several occasions and towards the end of his talk he mentioned that if any new ones in attendence didnt understand the signficance of 1914 or how we know that christ started ruling in 1914 that they were invited to ask any jw in attendence to explain these things to them and they would be happy to.
this really got my wife to thinking because as a 28 year old jw who was raised as a witness and who has always been very active in the ministry she couldnt explain 1914 or any beliefs that we have as witnesses in regards to 1914 other than things havent been the same in the world since this pivotal date.
something as simple as this comment from this speaker can be the first step into seeing the errors in the wt belief system.

The simplicity and elegance of this graphic timeline will slap you in the head!!! It's simple, graphic, indisputable and is accompanied by WT articles to backup that what the graphic timelind shows. It's really easy and to-the-point.
Good luck,

Do these count?
1897 "Our Lord, the appointed King, is now present, since October 1874," Studies in the Scriptures, Vol. 4, page 621.
1916 "The Bible chronology herein presented shows that the six great 1000 year days beginning with Adam are ended, and that the great 7th Day, the 1000 years of Christ's Reign, began in 1873." The Time Is at Hand, page ii, (forward).
