Do we have double standards about JWs?
by Skeptic indo we have a double standard as far as jws are concerned?
yes, i know that their claims of being better than any other religion sets them up for higher expectations.
and yes, generally jws are judgemental.

I wonder if the the main point has been overlooked about this whole line of reasoning. We 'pick' on the Witnesses because we have been directly impacted on by them. We know them, lived with them, married them, and raised children or were children raised in that sect. We have family members and workers involved with them. This is within our experience to discuss them. And by and large all of our interaction has been negative, so the flavour of our comments will be sour! We help each other, commiserate and listen to each other, sharing the pain and letting each of us know we are not crazy, or mental, or stupid. We validate each others feelings and in turn have our oun feelings validated. It has nothing to do with any 'double standard'. Maverick

Do You Think Disfellowshipping Is Unscriptural?
by minimus inand for those that believe disfellowshipping is unacceptable, would you want to have known child molesters as members of a congregation that you were in?

I didn't get the impression anyone of the posts were supporting the 'Shunning' of people. If someone does not agree with or wish to follow some prescribed religious formula, let him go. This punishing by shunning is mean and hateful. And calling it 'tough love ' is hypocrisy.
We all know the greatest sin in the WatchTower world is speaking out against the Demigods in Brooklyn, their order and legitimacy. All other sins can be worked out. This one is their version of sinning against the Holy Spirit. Maverick

Women in Heaven?
by sandy inwhy is it that women are worthy enough to go to heaven but they cannot hold the same privileges as men in the congregation?.
has anybody ever asked the org.
this question?

I don't know about Heaven, but the women I know make me feel like I've been there! And I know I've nearly sent a few there in return! And it's never quiet. Maverick

WT to lose Tax Exemption on Property
by DevonMcBride inhttp://www.recordonline.com/archive/2003/04/27/bl427edi.htm
n.y.: put the brakes on the free rides.
"new york state is one of most generous states in the union toward tax exempts.

Good! I hope this starts a trend all over the country. To many municipalities are struggling with budget shortfalls for this to be overlooked anymore. Owners of huge tracts of land and other valuable real property are exempt for paying their fair share. Maverick As they said on Laugh-in, "Sock it to them baby!"

Submitting a DA letter and walking away?
by Jourles ini have been perusing through the many boe documents i have recently received and noticed something interesting.
regarding ones who disassociate themselves, there have been many discussions on this board where people tell others not write a letter as you are giving away any legal footing you may have against the society.
well, it appears that there are two routes you can take without officially getting da'd, according to the society's own documents.

My understanding is that they changed the wording because of people doing what I did. I was dunked in 1979. And unless they have a video recording of my swearing in they can't prove I moved my lips. Also in 1986 when they had all the J-duds at the District Conventions say "Yes" to the change in their Baptismal Vow, unless they have me on tape saying yes to that, they can't prove I ever did.
The local Cong. DA'd me six weeks after I sent out the letters. I wrote the PO, called him a coward and a liar and told him to retract the statement as I did not DA myself. I knew the prick wouldn't do it but it felt good to piss on the jerk.
As for minors, If they wait too long after they come of age the courts will not recognize their nullification. Non action constitutes acceptance. So if you are a minor the DAY you turn of age start raising hell and writing letters. They will cut you lose. If you wait, join the rest of us tunnel diggers trying to make an escape! Maverick

The "Watch Tower B. & S. Society" handwriting
by Roddy inlet me toss this up and see if anyone has an answer.. recall the rubberstamp handwriting that serves as the 'signature' in the bottom of all wts correspondence?
anyone knows the history of this sloppy handwriting?
who was the author?
-
Maverick
Roddy, God signed it! It looks sloppy because it is hard for Him to write with a pen since His hand is SOOOO big! As for the Watch Tower. It was supposed to be one word but the first copies were done by an outside printing company and the typesetting was done out of the California Job Case by this old guy and he made a typo. And because these were God's spokesmen they couldn't have mistakes in the first printing, what kind of example would that set! So they left it and said they did it on purpose! I hope this helps you, if you need any other information just write and I'll make... err researce it for you. Maverick

Try to See Elders as Jehovah Sees Them
by jgnat inwt march 15, 2003 april 27 study, try to see others as jehovah sees them
the theme of this weeks article is to disbelieve the evidence and always trust jehovahs man.
the logic goes something like this:.

Stephanus hit it right on the head. Another case of false logic. Man makes error, man picked by God, God can't make errors, then man did not err. It follows right on through, just like a pretzel! Maverick
