Florida Folks - How you doin?

with the double hit of tropical storms hitting florida today, just wondering how y'all are making out.. be well and stay safe!.

uzzah.

I live in St. Pete and we are on a Hurricane warning. 350,000 people have been told to evacuate. I live on some of the highest ground in the county, 26 ft. so I don't have to go. I will try to work a little in the morning but as soon as the sky turn black I'm heading home. My girlfriend is running a shelter and has to stay there until the officials give the, "all clear", maybe Saturday evening or Sunday morning.

I went to pick up some work related stuff this morning at Home Depot...bad idea....stupid actually! The place was packed with people getting plywood and generators. Home Depot had signs everywhere telling folk they could not return the stuff. Next week I'm going to check the classifieds and pick up a cheap generator and a shit load of plywood. Should get a hell of a deal!

Right now the weather is perfect! But it can change in the time it takes to run out and roll up your car windows! Mav

JW's and interracial marriage?

my nephew a jw who is white is dating another jw who is black with the intent to announce their engagement soon.. i had been reading about the past history of the jw's opinion of the black race.

old writings that said they were gods people too, but not intelligent as white etc and not qualified intellectually to go door to door to teach etc.that all people would be white in the new system.. i had read of a rope being run down the pews of the fellowship halls to separate the races during services during the 50's early 60's at the halls that did allow intergrated services... this was supposed to have taken place even up to a few years after de-segregation in the schools and other public places took effect.. that in some areas they had their own hall to meet at and the whites had theirs.

at one point the members of the black hall had asked to meet at the white hall as their building was being repaired or soemthing and they were told no, that some of the members of the white hall wouldn't understand or approve.. and i read that even up into the late 90's, many black members still weren't being given postions or responsibilities that whites had held since the beginning of the jw's.. i was just wondering how far they've come along to improve this image and if anyone knows thier opinion of interracial marriages.

I became a Nit-Witness in Florida in the 70's, the single thing I found most appealing was the lack of racism. I moved to So Cal in the 80's and saw a lot of mixed marriages. They had some of the most beautiful children I have ever seen. My current girlfriend is black and I must admit I do find black women very attractive, and the darker they are the better! Maverick, a little old short white guy.

A womans tears

this is really for the guys, but i know the woman here will have some great insights for us stupid men so i hope y-all will offer up your best.. when the woman i am with starts to tear up or cry i feel totally helpless and useless.

this is one of the most dreaded situations i as a man can ever find myself in.

my older brother, the retired police chief, would get angry if a woman started to cry when he was writing her a ticket, he felt it was an act.

My lady friend has only cried twice in all the time I've known her. I said something that hurt her. There was no malice in the comment, but she felt I was being insensitive. I was guilty of not appreciating how strongly she felt about the issue at hand. She is a very guarded person and is not demonstrative in her manner. I find her a very hard read. She will TELL me she feels this way or that but does so with little emotion. I tend to be very passionate and animated in my expressions, you know how strongly I feel by my tone and manner. None of that works in reading her feelings. I am always underestimating her feelings on things because of this miscommunication.

If I tried to hug her she would smack the crap out of me.

As for crying, I cry at movies, pet funerals, weddings, and any act of ultra-kindness, and I don't give a rats behind who sees me. Now if I get injured, I work at not crying in front of people. ...See my tread on cursing! Mav

I don't know if women do use crying as an act or a ploy but I will admit it just kills me to see my daughter or girlfriend teardrops, especially if I am the cause of their weeping.

Men how do you react and deal with a womans tear?

SNOOPING... do you?

the premise of the movie the little black book, seems to have brought this topic up in conversation i have noticed... radio stations are having call ins... today one made the statement that women will snoop more than men and they were wanting callers to say if they snoop or not.. .

its been intersting to hear some of the calls.. .

would you be tempted to snoop to make sure your love is in check?

When my wife was talking about leaving me and my daughter she claimed that there was no other person involved. I did not believe her and made copies of her voice mail messages from her boyfriend. Up until then I would never even have considered snooping. Once I knew she was lying I stopped, it was too painful to even hear those messages. She would open my mail and check my messages during our marrage and I hated it but I respected her and did not do the same to her.

When I had two full time girlfriends one of them spied on me and knew about the other one for 6 months before she tried to break us up. I dumped her for her efforts. The one I have now claims she does not check up on me but she just shows up at the night club I like to dance at. I know she is making sure I behave.

I never cheated on my wife or any woman I was in a committed relationship until this one now. But now that I have, the temptation is very great and I fight it all the time. I handled two girlfriends full time for almost two years and I find it hard to adjust to only one very busy lady who fits me in when she has some time. If she is smart, she should pay a little more attention....life leaves clues. Mav

Good manners and curse words

one of the comments i have heard many times is what good manners i display.

i open doors, allow others to cut in line ahead of me, say please, thank you and may i all the time, stand for a lady and many other simple little and often goofy actions that seem to have been lost on the current generation.

in fact the thing that attracted my present girlfriend was her observation of my good manners.

When reviewing the voice recordings on military and commercial aircrashes the investigators know when it is pilot error if they hear, "Oh shit!" right before the warning buzzer or problem starts to manifest itself. In any language. So cruse words doo doo have a place! Mav....damn typos!

Did the WTS make an atheist out of you?

shouldn't a religion bring people closer to god?

it would seem that many became atheist after being deceived by the wts.

unlike other religions, the wts was very precise in what was to happen during the 20th century.

I do believe in a Supreme Being, the great artist, who is not a petty, insecure, extortioner. A being who does not hatefully frustrate His intelligent creation. Any being that can make the female form in all its beauty and dynamics has to be one very cool character! Mav

Love or respect, which do you want, are you settling for less?

i know who i love and how i feel about certain ones in my life, but i can not say with any true belief how others really feel about me.

So many good and thoughtful points! I am impressed!

To give ones life would seem to be a defining point, but many have died for an Ideal or a respected comrade.

And as Xena and Sirona insightfully brought out, love would need a foundation of mutual respect. I agree that I could not love fully without it.

dh made a point cooked down so finely that it stopped me cold!

Little Toe has made the statement that love is the greater. I can see his point, but as a man I require respect to function, and give love to be fulfilled. We all want love, but do we settle for respect to fill the void?

And as Sunnygal asked which kind of love? I dispute the WTS concept of the four kinds. I think they overlap too greatly to compartmentalize them so.

Based on these ones actions I can say who treat me with respect and who does not. This "respect" I can determine to my own satisfaction at least, and I am OK with life in this context.

Now my questions; In the absents of solid proof, if such a thing is even possible, which has a higher value to you, love or respect? Do you feel you are settling if you say respect? Can you live without the personal belief that you are truly loved? Was the need to be loved a reason you got involved with the Dubs? Mav
