Do You Still Think & Act Like A Witness??
by minimus inone of the criticisms i see on this board, especially if one points out a similarity between jws and jwd or other similar discussion boards, is that a person is still seeing things in the eye of a jehovah's witness.
what's your take on that?

Why are ugly people bad?
by confusedjw inwhen i was a pre-teen i became aware of how someone?s looks at birth made such an impact on their lives.
first by the fact that all the bad guys in movies were ugly and the good guys were handsome.
i would wonder why ugly people were bad or was it that bad people became ugly?

Interesting. I come from a family where all the men are considered very good looking. All my brothers look like either Don Johnson or a young Van Micheal Vincent. I was in a very bad accident as a child. Lots of scars. I had a lot of reconstructive work over the years but hardly consider myself handsome. I've actually gotten better looking as I've aged. I work hard at it. None of my brothers do a thing. My goal is to have a six pack stomach at 50, my next birthday. We are what we are. I tend to be very wary of beautiful people. My daughter is very beautiful, thin waste, nice rack, tall. She has it all and like most of my family, does nothing to get it. All her boy toys are these 6'6" male model types. I give then crap all the time. Most of them are terrified of me. Poetic justice.
As to the question about ugly people. Nobody is ugly to me until I get to know them. I know some very attractive people who lack those perfect features you see on the cover of Vogue. Mav

What grammatical errors bug you the most?
by poppers infor me it's the use of : .
it's as a possessive - it's means "it is", so if you don't want to say "it is" don't use the apostrophe.
there are others that bug me but this one is the worst.

Funny, I have been thinking a lot about this subject lately.
I am of French descent and had a very French name, easy for Americans to pronounce. Then my Mom married a great guy with a very Polish name that is very hard to pronouce and spell. He adopted me and I got this name. I love the guy but hate the name. I write stories and poems and use a pseudonym and had planned to change my legal name to that when the man died. Now I'm thinking of going back to the family name since we have a long history in America, mid 1700's. Mav

Serena Williams (Dishonors) American Flag!
by Voyager infriends, i apologize if this is old information.
sometimes i can't keep up with (all) the posts here.
the thread lists this as (janurary 25, 2003) so thats why i thought it to be old.. i remember that serena williams had (won) the cup and championship, and was photographed carrying the american flag, or engaging in what (some people) considered as (idolatry),--but what was (news) to me, was the fact that she was also photographed (dishonoring) the american flag as well.

Do you open the mail, even if it's not addressed to you?
by Maverick inwhen i was married my wife would open all the mail, even personal letters sent to me or our daughter.
i hated it!
if the letters where from old friends of the female persuasion she would give them to me later, opened and often mangled, in the evening and want an explaination.

Thank y-all for your comments. Judging by the range of answers it is not a given that people will respect your privacy on this matter of mail. In a fledgling relationship is would be wise to ASK your partner how they feel about opening the mail. Maverick

If the letters where from old friends of the female persuasion she would give them to me later, opened and often mangled, in the evening and want an explaination. At times I wonder what letters that where delivered I never received.
I was taught that only the person to whom the letter was addressed should open it unless that person gave another permission. I gave my daughter such when I am out of town, but she always asks first.
Now my question, How do you feel about opening the mail? Maverick

Are Women The More Natural Carers?
by Englishman inwell, i've checked out on the whole sociological conditioning thing.
about how boys play with model cars and guns because they are expected to do so.
about how girls like to play with dolls and dress up only because that is how their mothers have conditioned them to behave in that way.

Welcome back Sir.
I personally would not want some smelly guy looking after me. I'd want a woman to do that.
We all should be grateful for all that the ladies do. I worked at the primary elections last night, and in two precencts with about 25 workers, only two of us guys. When I have volunteered at other functions I often am the only guy. Women do most of the social and volunteer work. Mav
