I agree, Gary that the WTS may be opting to set a precedent where they plant a seed and in the future hope they can use it in one of two ways. 1) Bluff, if some local cong balks at the WTS pushing them around the WTS may pull this quote out and use it as "proof" that they, the WTS, are and have allways been in control. Or 2) should someone not fall for the bluff they can use this quote in court to show that the WTS had established this policy with the full knowledge and consent of the RF.

Governing Body claims title to Kingdom Halls and Assembly Halls
by garybuss ingoverning body claims title to kingdom halls and assembly halls.
i'm told this is what the new "organized" book says about real estate on page 16: "what then are the "belongings"?
these are all the spiritual assets on earth that have become christ's property in connection with his authority as heavenly king.

Let me tell you a story and you decide what the Society would do if a member of the borg did this.
A brother tells the Elders one of the brothers in their Hall is a member of the YMCA. The Elders assign a qualified brother to check out this accusation. This qualified brother meets informally with the accused and asks him if in fact he is a member of the YMCA and he denies it. Being a well respected man the matter is dropped. The other brother, seeing nothing being done, goes back to the Elders and asks what has happened, they tell him but he assures them the man is in fact a member of the YMCA. They go and ask the other brother again if he is sure he is not a member of this organization? He explains to them that after being asked he went and check and sure enough he was a member. His story is that his brother-in-law got the membership for him without his knowledge, but he has withdrawn from that organization. They are not happy with him but let the matter go.
The other brother seeing nothing is done goes and inquires of the matter before the Elders again. They tell him that the situation is handled and it was a case of the accused brother not knowing he had a YMCA membership. This brother explains that the reason he knew of the membership was because he saw that brother leaving the YMCA so in fact this man had to know he was a member.
They go back to the accused man with this information. He tells them his Doctor told him to get therapy for a car accident he was in and he just used the pool at the Y.
What would the Elders do to this man who had lied to them?
The WTS being associated with the UN is very much like this story.

microphones were the last straw
by ivy init wasn't the big stuff that made me decide i could never go back, it was one little thing.
i have been thinking about my journey out of "the truth", and i think i can pin-point the last straw.. .
i had been out for years, but always thinking that if i got my head together someday i would be good enough to go back.

This was not the last straw but I remember taking a management course where it was explained that just because someone asks you to do something for them does not mean you have to do it. I had always been a good little JW and took whatever crap assignment the Elders dumped on me. As a family man, business owner, and the Account Servant I felt I had hit the limit of what should be asked of me, so when this one Elder came up to me and told me he needed me to do this extra work I told him I would take a pass. He was stunned! He walked away all pissy. I felt great for not letting him bully me into doing something I did not want to do. It was very empowering. From then on I never did anything I did not wish to do. I felt no guilt, I was doing more than most of the brothers were and told the Elders so when they would try to talk to me about having a willing spirit. I put my family ahead of the WTS and this is a very bad thing with them!

JW's United Defend W.T.'s Relationship With U.N.
by Kenneson inwe have all read info here and elsewhere exposing the w.t.
society's involvement with the u.n. i have found a site which is trying to minimize the damage that has been wrought.
i hope many of you will read it and offer your viewpoints or critiques.. http://www.wtdefended.co.sr/ .

The guy talked a lot but did not say much. He assumed all the doctrinal points unique to the WTS where firmly and irrevocably linked to the Bible. We know with the WTS's Ace-in-the-hole "new light" that simply is not the case. The points about DFing and child-abuse were good examples of flawed, weak, reasoning.

JW Singles Cruise
by Smoky ini have been told recently that jw brothers and sisters, plan jw singles cruises.
could this be true?
i thought there was rules against such a thing.
-
Maverick
How depressing! JW cruise conjures up an image of dancing in a straight-jacket, sharing a room with some geeky brothers, and closet drinking. I just did a cruise to Mexico and could not inagine some dip-shit Elder watching me as I try to relax by the pool or hit the casino...or do they shut the casino and night clubs down when the borg infest the ship?

What happened to Babylon the Great? Why is it still here?
by truthseeker inhave you seen bab-el-on the great?
she was here just a few minutes ago.. seriously, i was thinking back to the days of 1988 - when we first received the copy of the penultimate revelation book.
you know, the one with the red cover and the scary dragon pictures inside.. at that time, jw thinking was heightened to expect the imminent destruction of false religion.

The WTS has no clue. They have no more insight to the Bible than my cat does. Throw out all the special, inside knowledge you got for those dummies! All the crap they filled your head with is anti-knowledge. It's fiction, fantasy, and foolish!

Your BEST excuse for missing a meeting?

I told the "Brothers" that as a somewhat intelligent person I wanted to spend my free time with honest, loving, and friendly folks. They both bobbed their heads and waited for me to continue. And to make my point I repeated myself. Their expressions changed to looks of befuddlement. I explained that this was the reason I would not go to the Hall anymore. Then the dummies got what I was saying and, denied they were dishonest, rebuked me in very harsh and unloving terms, and left my home without even saying a proper good-bye!
As they left I thanked them for proving my point!

Precident for elders to have two sets of rules. One for us and one for them
by kwintestal ini was thinking about this for some reason this morning.
it seems that elders or elders' family are able to get away with quite a bit, while those who aren't are hung.
so how is that any different then things in the ot?.

The WTS reasoning on this was that David was being used to further Gods plan on a promished one or David would have been killed like anyone else.
The new-speak of the WTS is that we are all slaves of God but some are higher slaves than others. Look at the Governing body, they are; the faithful slave, Christs' brothers and the earthly wife-like organization of God the father. So they are; lesser than, almost equal to and somewhat greater than Jesus all at the same time.
So it should not surprise us that the local Elders, who are like the god they worship, make up their own rules to get whatever result they desire.

Disgusting wasteful behaviour
by Simon in.
what a great world, we are throwing good food away because we are too lazy or dumb and don't value it while millions elsewhere starve to death.. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/4443111.stm.

Anyone who has ever worked at a "fast-food" joint in America can attest to the shameful waste of food here! But worse is the fact that Americans eat soooooo much! Health-wise they would be better off to trash those fries than eat them. Obesity is fast becoming the number one health issue in this country. When I was in France I saw NO FAT LOCALS. If the person was fat, they were Americans.
Why is it when I go to a ballgame the thin people are watching the game and the fat ones are stuffing their faces and guzzling one beer after another? The conspiracy theory people claim the food processors are adding chemicals to fast food that makes them addictive and people crave these foods unnaturally, order more than they need, get their "fix" and then throw the rest away!

Dating/relationships and ex-dubbyness
by devinsmom in.
ok, so i allways thought that dating someone who used to be a witless would be cool , since you would both kinda know what the other had been through in his/her life.
so my question is: how many of you date/have dated ex-witnesses, why or why not and does the relationship benifit from it...and just your ideas about it in general.. .

My fiance is a pretent JW. She goes to the Hall on Sundays and when she visits with her children. I leave it alone and she does not bring it up. We both know it is total crap and she admits she could not tell you any of their stupid doctrine. This is the only area we avoid. She and my daughter talk all the time about who is having sex with who and what would happen if they did DNA tests on the children at her Hall and how that would blow the lid off the place. If they lifted the ban on talking to ex-JW's there, no doubt, would be thosands like her who would just walk away.
As for relationships with ex JW's, I've dated lots of women both in and out of the borg. Them that never was IS easier.
