Jehovah's Witnesses Feel Superior To Others. What About EX-JW's???
by minimus ineveryone knows the smugness that jw's have.
"everyone is going to die except us because we only have the truth.
" do you think that ex-witnesses continue this same smugness once they get out and realize what really is the truth?

I dont know. I don't think i'm superior to other's anymore and I doubt many other X's would. It feels like being a little fish in a big pond once leaving the witnesses, then again it's fun to swim for a change.

On this day never forget the sacrifice of our fellow men and women in the struggle for workers rights. On this day so many years ago the Haymarket martyrs were slaughtered by American fascists.

Just thought I'd mention the consideration of Jesus and messiah's in general in Hinduism, as something of interest, perhaps.
The Christ concept is very similar to the Hindu concept of "Avatar". Strictly speaking Avatars are God manefested on earth. On system of Hinduism. (i.e. Avatars of Vishnu might include Rama, Krishna, Kalki and others). The list is not really inclusive as it may change over time. There is no pope or college of cardinals in this faith system, so of course there are differences of opinions.
Some also say that Jesus is an Avatar. Other's say he is a master yogi. Others say Jesus was just a retelling of the life of Krishna. (this makes a certain sense, as their lives are VERY similar, although stories of Krishna far predate Jesus. A case has even been made of Jesus travelling to Kashmir and Tibet during his twenties.

Valis, thanks for mentioning Canticle for Liebowitz. Been years since I read that. i think I might just read it again, now.
If you are just into rapture-stories, read "To Your Scattered Bodies Go" by Phillip Jose Famer. It's cool.. like a Paradise gone terribly wrong. Skip "Riverworld" on SCI-Fi channel while you read it though. They buggered the story up down backwards and sideways for some reason.

What are the benifits of DA? Should I DA?
by zucker ini'm wondering if i should just "come out of the closet" and tell my family i don't believe it anymore and da myself or don't make any noise and fade out?
what are the benefits or problems with either choice?
additionally, some have expressed concern over da.

Liability is something to think about. Right now Witnesses are sitting pretty, basically untouchable for most of their crimes, but if some government ever decides to get Malawian on them, I think fader's would be sending in their DA letters in the thousands. Ask yourself do you really want some official connection to this festering, evil, temple/corporation of lies?

The Christian Message - inspired of fear?
by Mandybp inwhat do you thibnk of the christian message as compared to jw message, both are ruled by fear aren't they?
if you don't love jehovah you will die at armageddon, if you don't love christ you won't go to heaven you'll go to hell.
lovely.

Without fear you WILL die.
With it, you will die, anyway.
I agree religion should be practical. If it isn't practical then it is of no use whatsoever. This babyish system of rewards and boons is silly though. It leads one to feel they are powerless. It leads to duality (dvaita) which in turn can lead to fanaticism. Religion should rather tell you that you are divine and can do anything you set out to do. The greatest sin would be to wallow about saying "I am a sinner." In that case then God would be a facilitator to your addiction of weakness.

The Best And Worst Accents In The World
by Englishman inwell, obviously we english don't qualify on that score as we simply do not have any accent whatsoever.. but i do like the mid to south us accent, it's very warm and hospitable.
i'm not too keen on the accent of the eastern europeans, it seems harsh and bombastic.

I like to hear people from New York city talk. I used to like hearing the witnesses from up there sing praises to "Jahover".
