not post 9-11. The question is whether they have any missionaries in an embargoed country.

JW's and Embargoed Technology
by gitasatsangha ini've been thinking of another way to cause trouble for the watchtower.
i don't think one silver bullet will take it down.
it's more of a siege campaign.

Here is something I am thinking about. I know that in the past the watchtower used cutting edge technology to set up printing processes in areas where the work was banned. (for example the laptop-laser printer workshops the carried in old suitcases in Kenya in the 80's.).
What if the WTS was using certain technology in areas where such technology is embargoes (Libya, Sudan, Iran). It would be hard to catch them, but if caught, the State department could launch an investigation into the watchtower's operation that would be quite painful for the wts.
on the flip side, some governments might not like it at all if they were to find out that the Watchtower owned stock in an American defense corporation. What little goodwill they manage to have with governments is usually by waving the neutrality flag.

For those ever put on "restrictions" , how long where you on them?
by LyinEyes inok,,,,, i admit it..... i was not the perfect .
there was nooooooo way i would have went to the elders while still living in my father's home..... he would have beat me unmercifully, not to mention the emotional abuse of having failed him, the reproach and embarrassement i caused etc.
i was ready to just die at armeggedon , than to confess my sins to the elders.

I was on some kind of restrictions for having other religious books in my house, etcetera.. interfaith in think the charge was. They felt I was repentant. I was on restrictions from then on till I just stopped going. I never bothered to see if they'd been lifted, so I can't even give a time frame on how long I was under restrictions, but several years sounds about right.
I never did see that thing in the bible that talked about restrictions. Guess I didn't know my bible.

"it's not you, it's me ..."
by talesin inhow many have heard this or used this as a break-up line?.
is it a cop-out, or the truth?.

I used the "It's not you, it's me" line once, with an addition of "There's just some things in my life i have to work out before I can be good for you in a healthy relationship."
Translation: I met an old friend of yours and she's hot. We went out last night and will be doing to again this weekend. I don't want margarita in my face, so I am getting out the plesant way.
It wasn't strictly speaking, a lie.

this comraderie.. a sense of us against the world. It's empty, but the feeling is still there for a long while.

No Elsewhere. Must I be Phineas, and defend the troof against the copulators of the lie with my spear of Truth? Once again you are thinking with worldly wisdom, and not with the eye of discernment. The meaning of the speaker, is that we are all of the Bivalve Mollusc class, the latter day Oyster, the Antitypical
BeardedBreaded Clam, and as such we should siphon nourishment from Jehovah's ocean, and make pearls out of irritants or something before we are harvested and eaten by the Faithful and Discreet Slave, God's Chef representative bride class on earth. It's murmurers like you that twist everything.

Isn't God missing the devil?
by Narkissos insome time ago i started a (short) thread entitled ?how important is the devil to god?
http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/10/63454/1.ashx
i?d like to address the same question from a slightly different angle.

I would have to agree with Carmel. I think Judaism was significantly influenced by Zoroastrianism (and therefore Christianity was heavilly influenced by Zoroastrianism. Zoroastrianism itself was inflenced by the Aryan Vedic pantheon, or at least developed from the same mythology tradition. There are too many Zoroastrian and Vedic name and role similarities for that to be coincidence.
Perhaps Judaism had earlier influenced Zoroaster as well, so all things come full circle. Certainly in older segments of the Hebrew scriptures, the main thing seems to be Jehovah's conflict for supremacy over other gods (not "false" gods). This war of goodness vs. badness or whatever is essential Zoroastrianism. JW teachings like it a lot.

There's *something* about Miriam
by Simon inhas anyone watched this?.
it has to be the cruelest show: 7 guys compete for one babe's affections but none of them know that "she" is really a "he" !
it's actually quite scary to watch 'cause she is quite attractive - i got caught out with that at the eurovision song contest (dana international) .
