Adultery a crime under US Military Justice ?!?
by Simon ini'd never heard of this before ... is it true?
is it regularly invoked or was this just an attempt to charge him with anything and everything and possibly just ruin his reputation?.
"a month later, he faced fresh charges, including adultery - a crime under us military justice ...".

WITNESSING's A DRUG
There are some bad people still inside.
There are some bad people still inside.
They're saving their own skins by
Ruining other people's lives
Bad, bad people still inside
Young married couple in fear - ever felt had ?
Young married couple in fear - ever felt had ?
On a Watchtower scheme
Designed to kill your dream
Oh mum, oh dad
Once poor, always poor
La la la la la
Witnessing's a drug
The one that you took
TELL THE TRUTH - IT DIDN'T HELP YOU
Cos Witnessing's a drug
The one that you took
God, it really did not help you you
You wonder why we're only half-ashamed ?
"Because the Truth is TOO MUCH!
...and look around ...
...can you blame us ? CAN you blame us ? "

George Orwell's '1984'
by Winston Smith :>D inon a thread it was asked how we chose our screen name.
mine is from the book george orwell's, 1984. .
'winston smith' is the protagonist who big brother tries to crush.. the book, along with george orwell's animal farm, are required reading imo for any jw/x-jw.. actually, the book is a great insight into what can happen when individuals surrender their freedom to any high control group.. .

There are a lot of miserable-future books that have similar crosscurrents to what we experience as Witnesses and former Witnesses. 1984 is one excellent example. The Mosquito Coast is another that comes to mind. The power of books and free minds in an otherwise safe world: Farenheit 451.
I don't know if Animal Farm (or the often sited Brave New World) really work for me as analogies because they are different scenarios. Probably as many possibly dystopias to write about as they are utopias to wish for. But that's what the New World Society is, in the end, a dystopia.

The Internet remains the cheapest and most effective way of providing information to person who are interested in knowing more about their religion (JW's). The Internet provides anonymity, and discretion of deciding how far to reseach. Some people will never look beyond, and if they have doubts, they will stifle them. That's their karma. But the information is out there if the want to see it.
The "hard sell", such as billboards, ful-page ads, letter writing (basically direct mailing), people with placards and bullhorns at the convention sites, mailing a thousand stuffed sheep, all that just sounds like refinements of old JW tactics, and I doubt they have many results. I'm both attracted to the idea, but also repulsed by it. In the end, I don't think I'd ever support it financially. I guess it's a bad thing to say, but I got out without reading an advertisement. They can too.

I see where you are going with this. IMHO, a bulliten board would be cheaper, reach about the same number of viewers if put int the right place (and perhaps more, since billboards have a captive audience), and cost about $45,000 less, and run for months rather then a single day. (there was a thread about this somewhere, a few days ago).

Yeru,
Rather then be a man about it, you got a man imprisoned, deprived of his children. It's really none of my business except you bragged about it. As for the custody of your kids and your exwife, that's none of mine at all. Still, your concept of honor is pretty odd, and at the very least an anachronism.

Post your ugly mug
by SC_Guy inok, this is kind of a silly thread... but... since i haven't seen any really recent "post your photo" threads, i'll start one.
you know how it goes... post a recent picture of yourself - don't be fooled by the topic title, lol... it doesn't have to be ugly.
ok, me first... ugly mugshots are easy for me to take being that i am just utterly hideous.

As you can see, it is spillproof and has the Astronomical League emblem on it, of which i am not a member. I'm not even an astronomer, and I usually have a hard time finding the Big Dipper (or whatever you limeys call it). I just thouht it looked good. My other mug is a Cafe Du Monde mug, for refilling up on latte when i am in the Big Easy. Apart from that I am not a coffee drinker.
Thank to the original poster for having interest in our mugs. As you can see, my mug is not ugly, but it is pretty generic looking, and therefore is ugly in a mass-produced sort of way. Form follows function, as they say, so as long as the item provides the user with easy access to a beverage, while at the same time being easy to clean, and hard to spill*, it can only be beaufitul.
* This particular mug has "Spillproof" stamped on it, and I believe that claim is valid.
