i met a couple of quite young bethelites who claimed to be anointed. they seemed to be quite interested in advancing their careers.
what were the ones you knew like?
"is it possible that many of the organizational sexual policies began when (in the late 70s early 80s?
) some of the people at bethel and even some of the gb were found out to be visiting gay bars?
i did hear about some bethelites visiting gay bars or engaging in homosexual acts in the late 70s and early 80s and were asked to leave bethel.
this thread can't possibly get buried, can it?
.
you like about one person here.
d.
oh yes, there are so, so many....
so i will rather list traits rather than posters:
clarity
intelligence
humor
compassion
love
faith
wit
scholarship
innocence
sincerity
generosity
you are all so special. even when i am just lurking and reading, i appreciate you all.
p.s. is leolaia definitely a "she"??
i was raised from birth as a jehovah's witness, but have been disfellowshipped for 13 years.
alot of ex- witnesses are bitter and bad mouth the witnesses, but my experience has left me feeling this way: being in the "truth" makes some people happy, and they are truly doing what is right in their own heart, and to condemn them for that is wrong.
as much as we oppose the witnesses and can see the real trurh, everyone is entitled to believe what they choose, and i truly believe that if someone is doing what is right in their heart and it makes them truly happy, then god will love them for the pureness of their heart.
best wishes to you.
may you find help and support and answers. i think it remarkable that you post without bitterness and with such understanding and benevolence.
october 8, 1986 awake!
i did all of the research for awake!
editor and senior writer, harry peloyan, for the 1993 booklet, "what is the purpose of life?
thank you, barbara, from my heart.
best wishes, nowisee

some of this is informative, some of this is shocking (bethelites engaged in wife-swapping -- in the 1950's??!!) and much is just pathetic.
it is so sad that these ignorant and uptight and inexperienced men influenced and affected so many lives and so many marriages, including my own - to a former bethelite - which ended in 1976.
hi everyone, haven't posted for awhile.. i am probably just rambling tonight( a few glasses of great red wine) so pardon me.
every once and awhile i just have such great sadness that begins to permiate my thoughts.not just for me but for everyone who has walked this path.
i happen to have a pretty great life, but sometimes this deep sadness rises up in me for all the things that might have been.
hey pc!
good to see you.
i am sorry for the sadness. i too have been looking for someone i might have known way back when without success. i suppose the closest i came was the day i spent with you and remet d.r. but i did not know him well though i recognized his face. when you connect with someone who has shared your experience it does tend to validate your feelings.
hope you and yours are doing well.
best wishes and love, nowisee
it's not often talked about but in my experience a lot of witnesses have sex (or something like it) during their courtship.
and most of them never go to the elders about it.
recent case in point: my dear friend got married this past summer.
define "sex".
i go this idea from simons post on bob dylan's documentary.. my first choice would be..... joan baez.... she had the most beautiful voice, and with her excellent guitar picking, didn't need any backup music or singers.. next would be ...peter, paul and mary.
they could really harmonize magnificeintly.. what are your favorites?.
hubert.
well dylan of course. although he wasn't my favorite until after the 60's were over.
peter, paul and mary. great. still listen to them and have to catch them on pbs every time there is a show. actually met mary at a trade show i was doing a couple of years ago. she wandered into my booth with a man (i guess her husband). i was too shy and said to him to tell mary i love her. he said tell her yourself and i did. she was gracious and moved on.
love judy collins and saw her in concert probably 3-4 times.
also love joan baez, but had her music playing in my car for a while and found that i was getting depressed. finally pinpointed the cause as her music. so depressing. barbary allen - omg, knife thru my heart. we shall overcome. so sad. saw her in concert twice, the first time in new haven, ct. great, the second time a couple of years ago in purchase, ny, suny, and she was terrible -- disorganized --, fragmented. oh well. she is a beautiful woman though; she has aged so well and looks almost better now.
the funniest is still stevie wonder on the taping of "we are the world" teaching bob dylan to do himself. dylan was just out of it and wonder was doing his best dylan imitation for dylan to show him how he should be singing during his solo part.
