now, anyone who knows me knows that i am a major fan of google.
google is great, google is changing the world, yadda yadda yadda.. but for once, i really have to give it up for the boys at microsoft.
their new search engine has some very cool features.. go to http://search.msn.com.
Like inquirer said, Google already does math. It also does question-answering, although apparently not quite as well as MSN yet.
MSN recently came out with http://virtualearth.msn.com/, which seems to identify street addresses more correctly than Google Earth does. (At least in Boise, where I live.)
Competition is good. You know that Google is now going to work extra-hard now to surpass whatever Microsoft has done, and that just means more cool features for us.

i noticed that the movie got decent reviews and i didn't really hear anything bad about it, so i gave it a chance on hbo tonight.. .
these stupid ass reviewers got duped.
I hate it when a movie gets talked up so much that it's invariably a letdown. I wouldn't call Napoleon Dynamite hilarious, but I thought it was highly amusing, in a quirky, off-beat kind of way. If I'd heard a bunch of people telling me that it was great, hilarious, etc. and I went in expecting an uproarious comedy, I'd probably have been disappointed.

here in the eastern states downunder we're having spring-like weather with clear blue skies, warm sunshine in the low 20s celsius even though it's right in the middle of winter.

i travelled alot recently and i passed through many major cities, and i saw the contrast between nice small quiet towns and huge cities with so much traffic.. so, where would you rather live, in a quiet small town where there isn't much to do,but where it's quiet and there is not much stress, or in a big city with lots of traffic jams, where life is more expensive, but where there is more to see?.
i like the smaller town life.
I'm living in Boise now, a city of 200K (with another 100K or so in suburbs) and I can't wait to move somplace bigger. Hopefully Seattle, later this year... *keeping fingers crossed*
I love the relaxation of the country for the occasional vacation, but on an ongoing basis? No way in hell.

angelic battles are being waged all around as universal court cases proceed.
all of this is happening, they believe, totally unnoticed by everyone else, except perhaps apostates and demons, who see it but for some reason remain defiant in the face of their approaching doom.. it can be a giddy feeling to believe you know what no one else knows, especially when they mock your beliefs as nonsense.

I wouldn't actually blame the WTS for having a small mythology, however. Consider the intricacy of Russell's chronology, or Franz's endless variety of types and anti-types. The reason the WTS has a small mythology nowadays is that all that stuff was just patently nuts, so they've stripped it down until nothing's left but a few vague bits that are relatively easy to defend.

This story--and the religious policy behind it--is sickening, but I have to ask, was there really nothing the doctors could do for this woman?
When I lived in Spain, which has sociaized medicine, many doctors at the publicly funded hospitals would refuse to provide bloodless treatment for patients who requested it. The only alternative for Witnesses was to transfer to private hospitals, often at exorbitant cost.
I don't know whether or not that's what happened here. But reprehensible as the WTS' policy is, without more facts I don't feel comfortable laying all the blame at their door.
