There is suffering because there is a natural longing for the peace, wholeness and permanence of our true Being; and we seek for it everywhere but in and as our own immediate and intimate Self. We foolishly seek for the changeless in what changes. We long and ache for our natural wholeness, yet continually identify with a broken shared of existence. Suffering, is the natural result of misidentification; and ironically, suffering is often the fuel to awakening to our true Being and Identity. Seems to be the natural and simple way of things.
If looking inside ourself for completion were the only thing needful, then it would be part of our natural makeup to be instinctive about this. No one would even need to teach or say a thing about it; it would truly be a universal understanding, much like knowing that when you are hungry, you eat. Why should you even have to explain this to anyone? Isn't it a bit ironic?
Self-reflection and meditation are excellent things and very necessary for living deliberately. But I disagree that searching for wholeness in our natural selves is "the natural and simple way of things". Rather we, are continually being foolish, as you wrote. A glance at the real world quickly shows that in whatever ways self-reflection is practiced in the world, it is almost never done "naturally" by anyone at all. It is a practice that must be taught in the culture.

he really wants to be a navy seal!
my hubby is ex navy and so was his grandfather so he has always heard stories about the navy.
he will be 12 on dec. 19th and i know he has been interested in the military in general since he was about 8. my first reaction was fear because i don't ever want my kids to do anything that could put them in harms way.
Wow, how interesting.
I think some people just have something like this inborn. It definitely isn't for everybody, but the military is the perfect match for some.
...And the navy seals... that's an extremely tough goal! Good for him to be aiming for excellence!

our friend hambeak just got the most dreaded phone call from his jw child.
the news was passed on as he was asked for by name and not as"dad" and let known that "they" just called to let him know that his other son, brian, age 26, is dead.
he was in a car accident.

last sunday, my dad passed away at age 76. he knew since last april that he had cancer.
his funeral was yesterday afternoon.
many friends and family members attended.

The force of the question of life after death hits full in the face when it gets personal. It is no longer academic, it is important because the relationship was so important. I understand your wanting to wrestle with it and not gloss over it; my mom died this year as well and the question wanted serious answering then, too.
I am of the mind that relationships are of utmost importance to God, too. There are three things that last--faith, hope, and love. And the love of God will bring us thru in the end, for it never fails. (Maybe that is the secret nature knows?)
If your father 'sleeps', it is a state unaware of the passage of time --he would not know he had slept. If your father's soul cognizantly enjoys the company of Christ right now, he is in a "realer" reality to which we are the dream. Either way, as Mary wrote, all is well.

i have never heard of this!
nearing 17 years...and just recently the words "twenty-four elders" has popped up 3 or 4 times.
I'm new to this phrase too. I mean, it's in Revelation, so I'm familiar with it there. I'm just unfamiliar with the doctrine the WTS is spinning from it--sounds like an avenue for new light coming here? It'd help if someone could explain what this is all about...

friendship comes in all stages, shapes, and sizes, from the very close, as brothers, built over a lifetime, to the budding kind that has only a few months or a year or two.
i have been friends with sam (fictious name) for about seven years.
we are not real close friends, but have a good quality relationship that is mostly confined to the office.. recently, sam told me that he had an issue with a female agent who tried to get him fired.
I was like John Stewart thinking, "wha-wha-what??"

I didn't understand the very end, however. The imam was saying that sex changes were permissible, but if preliminary procedures required exposing genitals, or looking/touching them... then it is forbidden. I wonder how they manage to do these surgeries??

my aunt just died, the last one in my dad's family still alive.
she was 89 years old and a special pioneer untill she became too ill to keep up her time.. what's next?.

For some reason, having a generation older than me (aunts, uncles, parents, etc.) still alive makes me feel protected. I will feel a strange vulnerability when all of them pass on.
