Reading this has been very reassuring--nobody gave up education or real career or advancement in that career. Only a few engaged in shunning or other ugly behavior. So I think you did pretty well!

How has the org changed you emotionally?
by obiwan ini'm just wondering how everyone was changed by the wts emotionally.
i find that after going through being df'd and the shunning, the general loss of everything that i'm much harder, i give people less sympathy than i used to, things that are seriuos such as deaths and the like just don't move me much.
i feel desensitized, sorta detached i let so much just roll off my back than i used to.

(umm. What kind of freudian slip was that? That should read that there is NOTHING wrong . . . .!)

(this has nothing to do with JW, but a book I have found very helpful is Judith Sill's "A Fine Romance." The descriptions of the phases of relationships are wonderful reminders that this is just what it is like and not that there is something wrong with you or the person you are interested in!)

Question about JW's and adultery
by Sally inif a single jw brother and a married jw sister have sex (secretly wishing that her husband commits adultery so she can divorce him) and they get caught would her husband be able to divorce her no problem and wouldn't they just be df''d for a year?
then after a year could they be reinstated and then be together?
they are both very popular as they are both good looking, friendly and lots of fun.

But if the adulterous mate simply denies, all is well? No matter what the suspicions?

Kingdom Hall Spankings
by JH inmost meetings i went to, children were brought to the washrooms in the back to be disciplined.
often i could hear a child yell or cry due to the spanking given by the parent.
people in the hall would have that look on their face meaning that it was alright to discipline a child by spanking him.

Is it still current teaching that JWs should avoid marrying and having children the better to devote themselves to field work? JW practice seems very hostile to children and family in general.

So how does this work? If a JW suspects (but cannot claim to have actual proof) his/her spouse is having an affair, does s/he go to the elders of the congregation and share the suspicion? And then the elders have a word with the spouse? Is it like pedophelia where the organization sees it as in its best interest to turn a blind eye unless they need a reason to go after a JW?

How many members of JW, do you think, were raised in JW homes and remain JWs for the rest of their lives? Of those you know, are any of them decent, non-punitive (to children and others) types, or are they all neurotic control freaks?

Are there any organized efforts to bring the Watch Tower organization and the Governing Board to account?
