Oops--lots of slippage there. This doesn't strike me as a hoax at all. And I think the suggestion to forward the e-mail to the FBI is wonderful.

A couple of things strike me--one is that he confessed to the elders himself. If it had been the little girl, or her family, who went to the elders and he had denied it, what would have happened? It seems to me that has been the issue all along--that a "denying" abuser is always supported. I'm not sure I've read about someone who confessed to the elders not being disfellowshipped. Also, the fact that they told him to tell the little girl's mother and disfellowshipped him because he refused, neatly gets the elders off the hook. Either way, it points out the legalistic nature of Watchtower ethics. All they are concerned about is being able to assure themselves that they are in the right--they care not at all about actual consequences. (Paragraph--sorry, I can't format!) What would I do? Encourage this fine fellow to go to the media with his story to let the world know how the Watchtower deals with pedophiles! He feels his case is a defense of their policies so encourage him to defend them in public! I can hardly wait.

THE CELL PHONES of ELDER'S
by Blueblades in.
when they call their number is blocked out.this makes them unavailable when you want to call them.don't even try to call them after 9pm at bethel,no matter what the emergency!they only call you to get you to come to the meetings and go out into field service!.
so now we turned on ( acr ) anonymous call rejection, which allows us to reject calls from callers who have blocked the display of their telephone numbers.now my number will not ring and the caller will hear a message that instructs them to hang up and remove their blocking and call again.. since we did this, elders are not calling us anymore.as i said they want to know your number,so they can call you to come to meetings, otherwise they can't be bothered.they give their cell number to a select few only.the congregation as a whole don't have the elders cell phone numbers.don't try to get them at bethel either, once they know who is calling they hit the ignore button in their head.. really, i can't be bothered by the elders calling me about the same old same old line.but for those who really need some kind of help or information about whatever, this shows that they are not truly shepherds of sheep.. blueblades

No Personal References for Job Interview...
by berylblue ini have professional references (need advice on that too) but, thanks to my rebellion against the true god and his organization, i have no personal references, having been df like i deserve.
(the question which begs asking, of course, is why bother to get a job since i am going to be toast at armegeddon?
i should spend my time showing works that befit repentance...).

Before and after meetings: What was the conversational quality like?
by truthseeker ini have been in a number of different congregations over the years, and i have to say that the level of conversation i had with my fellow believers, with a few exceptions, was rather poor.. here are some 'opening' comments.. 1) nice to see you at the meeting.
- i never understood this.
can you imagine going to a company meeting and saying to your fellow worker, 'nice to see you at the meeting'?.

But what, really, is there to talk about unless you want to discuss what WT publications have had to say about current events. Who has time (or will admit to having time) for concerts, movies, plays, etc. (If you have time for that, why aren't you going door to door more.) You can ask after each other's families, the job, your garden--but, really, what CAN you talk about?

Hit Me With Some Snappy Comebacks Puleeeeeeeeze!!
by HadEnuf inokay...so i'm invited to a baby shower for my daughter-in-law which will most likely be attended by myriads upon myriads of jw's.
i won't go into the nasty details...but they've been married four years now and have another little daughter...their wedding was boycotted by most jw's because she was not baptized yet (but grew up a jw)...and my son was.
so every since the wedding fiasco...they have been pretty much shunned by the jw's...and attend meetings infrequently.

I really come down on the side of "thank you!" or a wide-eyed maintenance of eye contact. You won't be swayed by any original way they come up with for saying "you should be coming to meetings" and they aren't going to be swayed by any original way you come up with to say "mind your own business." And any attempt to make any JW who is coming to a babyshower in the hopes of winning your daughter-in-law back to the congregation sorry they said anything, is more likely to just make your daughter-in-law uncomfortable. But you knew that. I do think fantasizing all the things you could say is a great idea, though! And good luck--I hope you and your daughter-in-law have a great time. And, I'm hoping the JWs go against tradition and actually bring neat stuff for the baby!

Could Disfellowshipping Finish Off the Watchtower?
by metatron inlet's do some speculative thinking about the watchtower's future!.
suppose some holes are legally poked thru the watchtower's actions on disfellowshipping,.

If the law, in the US at least, is to have any effect, it will have to be in the area of child abuse. Child endangerment. That kind of thing.

Medical question re: immune system, viruses, etc.
by cruzanheart inalright, all you smart people out there, help me out with this one: jackson (our 7-year-old) has tons of allergies, eczema, and occasional asthma.
in the past year or two it appears that he has become very susceptible to viruses.
a year and a half ago he got what the doctor diagnosed as a sinus infection and he was put on antibiotics.

ratio of active to gone
by kgfreeperson inif there are 6 million active baptised jws in the world, how many inactive, df'd or da'd jws do you think there are?
what effect do you think this number of not-active-for-whatever-reason has on the potential growth of jw?

I've been thinking about the poster who suggested that only people who were already having doubts would show up on a site like this. And thinking if there are twice as many people who left but are still wondering if they've left "the truth" discover THE truth, what effect that might/will have on the faithful. (That is a terrible sentence, but my head hurts and I hope you get it.) I'm thinking tipping point, critical mass, 100th monkey. At what point does the exodus make a difference?

Really? I've been building the perception (obviously false) that there might be two or three times as many who have left or been thrown out as those who are active. Or do mean 1 million in the US?
