Perhaps jw's suggestion is what was meant by:
"This is why I got seemingly more than my share of lectures--telling me to get the bleed stopped, pray harder, a plethora of stoooooopid granola hippie suggestions,"

"Hemophiliacs are like vampires!"
by rebel8 inas i have talked about before, i have a serious bleeding disorder, not hemophilia though.
back in the dark ages of the '70s, the medical term used was "pseudo-hemophilia".
because i did not get appropriate medical care (thanks to the wts), i spent many hours during meetings sitting in the smelly ladies room at the kh trying to control my nosebleeds.

Excommunication is good!!!!
by I-follow-the-narrow-path inwhile talking to my teacher today we talked about excommunication.
i told her i thought it was mean to not talk to those members which have been excommunicated.
she told me; however, that those who leave the church should be punished.

When you refer to your teacher, are you talking about someone you are doing a study with or a teacher from school?

May 28--Four years since Dateline's JW sex abuse program aired. Results?
by AndersonsInfo insunday, may 28, 2006, is the fourth anniversary from when a threshold was crossed into uncharted waters.
on may 28, 2002, the u.s. television news program, dateline, publicized to millions of viewers the facts about watchtower's deceitful child abuse policies which protect pedophiles who target and molest jws' vulnerable children.
subsequently, this subject caught the interest of media throughout the world who, through careful investigation, substantiated the allegations made on dateline.

I was thinking about what people otherwise ignorant about JWs think about JWs when they think of them at all, as I was reading this in Carl Hiaasen's "Skinny Dip."
"Pinchot, the geriatric Pomeranian, had been located t the county pound, where it had been quarantined after nipping a slow-footed Jehovah's Witness."
It surely reflects my attitude before I discovered JWD as I was researching after discovering a friend's prediliction for the religion. -

Do you suppose this is a new strategy that's coming from Brooklyn? Harass you until you disassociate? How would that benefit them? It is very strange. In any case, I'd like to add my expressions of sympathy to all the others. It must have been a harrowing experience.

Contact from my JW brother-in-law
by sass_my_frass inafter my wedding i sent out an email to every non-witness i know and jw parents and a couple of siblings; the first group to stay in touch with old mates or turn near-strangers into friends in a time of needing them; the jw family group so that they'd know what's going on in our lives and how the wedding etc went and partly because i didn't want to be 'shunning' them; i wanted to be the one showing love and making an effort to maintain contact.
i sent another out recently, i figure i'll make it a biannual report on the life and times of the frass family.
it's nothing at all controversial, just a 'what we're up to' email.

I'm with buffalosrfree! Do a reply all (then add as many addresses as you can think of that you can legitimtely send this to), write something bright and cheerful--but don't make any reference to his reply. He'll write telling you to cut it out. Do a reply all, as if there's nothing at all strange about this, relaying more great news. How many times you have to do this will depend on how long it takes him to figure it out. With any luck, you'll be able to do it several times, cementing the JWs reputation with the non-JWs and, probably, getting you all kinds of kindly support from the non-JWs among your family and friends.
Accepting the basic jerkitude of your family is a terribly hard thing to do and you have my utmost sympathy. -

I really want to hear what JWs are saying to each other about this. Do they say/fee "this is way out of line" "can you imagine such a thing" etc, or do they say/think "see, they know how to do this right." I'm reading Sam Harris's "End of Faith" and he points out that the only way one can be a "moderate" religionist of any stripe is to ignore half of what is in scripture. Clearly the Muslim's in Afghanistan take their scriptures seriously!

Damn. Just keep in mind how much many of us enjoy and benefit from your extremely well thought out and sourced posts, Leolala! I surely can understand how you'd get tired of comments from jerks, but remember the rest of us!

I've just started Sam Harris's "The End of Faith." So far, so good! (It's not specifically about JWs or "end times" religions just about the destructive nature of religion in general.

This is disquieting, a coworker "borrowed" my file
by AlmostAtheist ini keep a manila folder for each project i'm working on in a wire rack on my desk.
it's a stairstep kinda dealy do i can easily see all their little tabs poking up, volunteering information about their contents.
quite cool, i love it.. a coworker stopped by my desk just now and mentioned that he'd grabbed one of my folders and gave it to a tester.

Dave, this is a big deal and I really admire the way you handled it. Have you gotten the program requirements back yet? I wonder if you said something like "its okay with me if you want to make a copy, but I really need them back now". Whatever, I think you've handled the situation really well.
