Is the JW religion that unique ??? do others have the same problems ???
by run dont walk inis the jw religion that different from other religions, i am not talking about beliefs, but the set up and blueprint that they work from.. i had a great discussion the other day with 2 hetterites (not sure how to spell it) both in their mid-twenties, they talked about how they had just left about one month ago and were going up to fort mcmurray to work, as they talked about their childhood, their beliefs, their upbringing, their rules, do's and don'ts, i swear they could of been jw's, i mean they went throught the exact things that alot of us on this board went through, it was amazing and frightening.. not knowing alot about other religions, are the problems we went through with the jw religion any different from someone who is mormon, muslim etc.
etc., do all religions although different beliefs by far, basically have the same blueprint in runnning their organization ???
and controlling people ??

I write a lot of responses that I decide not to post. I guess because I'm an outsider (never been a JW; only interested because of my friendship with a life-long JW) I suspect that what I have to say isn't particularly useful. But I keep reading because I have come to really like most everybody on the board.

Are you comfortable with voting now?
by Brummie ini admit i have never voted (shame), the last couple of years i have decided to vote but when the time comes i back out.
i like having the freedom to choose whether to vote or not but i never know who to vote on the day that counts and then i feel uncomfortable at the last minute.. how about you?

Big Tex, I think the "politically neutral" stance is simply one more way to keep JWs isolated, ignorant and depressed! All being "politically neutral" means in practice is being in favor of the status quo. Which, actually, the Watchtower is, but I can't find any evidence that Jesus was.

Cross religion mariage
by 2k ini have a friend who recently married a witness.
he isn't a witness, and this is causing some issues with the family.
i'm curious what is cosidered the appropriate way that the families should deal with the issue.

Preaching Slowdown
by cornish in.
i can remember numerous talks and study articles about how the preaching work would get more and more intense as we near the end.. one so called prophetic illustration that stands out in my mind was when joshua and his men marched around the city each day and then just before the city fell they marched seven times signifying a quickening of the preaching work.. it seems starkingly obvious that the preaching,is in decline amonst jw's,the jw's are seen less and less often in my neighbourhood,it is very rare to see them out street witnesing around the town centres and railway stations, the average jw spends far less time preaching than a decade ago.. it seems like their chief brag is definately on the wain,in favour of other recruitment methods.

Do they not have a tiger by the tail? What would happen if they suddenly rescinded the reporting requirement? Would any door-to-door "preaching" get done at all? Could JWs be JWs without door-to-door work?

Experience of new elders meeting format.....
by caspian injust to let you know that the s2 has come back from london with my deletion on it, so i expect it to be announced on thursday, it will be interesting to see how "my brothers and sisters" treat me.
anyway with regards to my experience to the new format of elders meetings.... some of you may be aware of the change to the format announced at the the elders seminar 2002 and in the subsequent letter, regarding the handling of an elder whose child has been involved in serious conduct.. basically the change is that a special elders meeting is held, where the elder is questioned by the body on why he thinks his child got into trouble?
was it his fault?

I'm glad you're ok, too, Mary. Hope there are no lasting ill-effects!
