I can't remember where I first read this--Linda Ellerbee maybe. "The good old days. Formerly known as 'these troubled times.'"

What Certain Voices Are Saying About Our Times:
by Blueblades inwhat the society is saying in the dec15,2003 issue of the wt.ie.
'sence of urgency' is nothing new.they are not the only ones crying out about our times being the last days as they claim.. ie.dr.billy graham in approaching hoofbeats-----the four horsemen of the apocalyse:"the bible teaches that there will be a number of signs that are easily discernible as we approach the end of the age.all these signs seem currently to be coming into focus.. hal lindsey in the late great planet earth:jesus pinpointed the general time of his return, signs such as religious apostacy,wars,famines,etc.. seventh day adventist author robert h.pierson in a sub-heading of his book good-bye planet earth:"the phenomenal increase of war, crime ,violence and fear are all signs of jesus's second coming!".
the worldwide church of god:"all signs point to the fact that we are living in the time of the end of this present civilization!".

Irreverent Got Good News
by blondie insome of you may remember that my husband suffered heart failure in may and the words "heart transplant" were mentioned often.
he has been in heart rehab (diet and exercise and close monitoring) and meds since then.
last week, he was told that the heart transplant was off the table.

Congratulations to both of you. I know following a regimen that allows that kind of improvement is no easy matter! This is just such wonderful news!

simplesally asks: "Did I read that wrong?? It seems Paul and Heinz were kicked off for BEING Jehovah's Witnesses. The other club members seem to believe in the Deity of the Lord (Jesus is God)." That's how I read it, too, simplesally.

What's happened to the preaching work?
by Dark Knight insomething happened the other night that got me thinking.
i met a christian in one of the local malls and he did the usual preaching about jesus routine, trying to convince me that i am a sinner and how i need jesus and all that jazz.
he wasn't a jw, but rather he was from one of the local revivalist churches.. now what i'm thinking is that i've been out of the org for almost three years now.

But it sounds to me as if the books and mags AREN'T getting distributed, but rather left in stacks in laundramats and doctors offices and dumpsters. I'm wondering if the r & f are willing to part with enough money to satisfy the WTS if they don't believe they're getting anything in return (i.e., a spot reserved on paradise earth for themselves and those they love).

But the issue isn't so much whether or not JWs are effective--but whether or not JWs think that going door to door is going to save them a space on paradise earth. Is it only me that thinks it might be fairly significant if the rank and file have lost that belief?

I have understood what many have said hear to mean that JWs believe that without going door to door as much as possible (as well as go to all the meetings) they will die at Armageddon. Do you think all the time at donut shops and McDonalds suggest that the rank and file suspect this is not true?
