I don't think that JWs are the only ones looking forward to Armageddon. In fact, they may be hoping but there are others who are working to bring it about!
The more I read about religion, the less I think JWs are an aberation.

Patiently waiting for so long
by KW13 inmum and stepdad were watching the news, as i walked in mum cut short what she was saying.. "this could be the shout of peace and secur...".
it frustrates me, whenever there is a conflict or war the witnesses are on the edge of their seat, hoping to see some huge disaster so they can rub their hands in glee and then all be saved and get to live in a paradise as god's chosen ones while everyone else dies a horrible death.. i asked her if she realised that "peace and security" had already been said several times in the past and still no end!!
she said to me that the society teach, that this could either be a long-term shout of peace of security or a statement said and then the end.. so i suppose this gives them an excuse should it fail to happen after a huge announcement of peace of security or a lot of events happen.

my daughter leaves for the ARMY thursday
by purplesofa ini have four sons and my youngest is a daughter.. she leaves for the army on thursday.
i am in a state of panic and emotion to try to convince her to not go.. i just heard on tv that becuase of the rising violence in bahgdad, bush is sending more troops to iraq.
the developments in isreal and lebanon only seem to be escalating.......the un asking britian and us for help but because of prior commitments......(iraq) are unable.

I think everyone else has said it--if she's made up her mind, then you can only honor her decision and be there for her.
In the meantime, we'll all try to be here for you. I can only imagine how difficult this is for you. I'm so sorry. -

Do you dare post your most embarrassing photo? Shall I post mine?
by nicolaou inso i've changed my avatar - again!
i don't know what's wrong with me at the moment, i can't seem to settle on one picture for more than a week!
anyway, the current pic' is one of me when i was 7 or 8.. thing is, it's just a facial crop from the one photo i am perhaps more embarrassed of than any other.

BoE "Porn" Letter... what if it isn't "convenient"?
by Scully ini was just reading the boe letter dated june 7, 2006 regarding pornography.
here's an excerpt that made me go "hmmmmm".. next, the body of elders should determine whether the brother still qualifies to serve.
he may continue to serve if his involvement consisted of (1) a few brief viewings, (2) he displays a heartfelt desire to desist from looking at pornography in any form, (3) the elders are convinced that he will refrain from viewing pornography, (4) he continues to retain the respect of others who are aware of what he did, and (5) his conscience allows him to do so.

grief & jw's?
by carla inreading the other thread made me wonder, do jw's ever truly grieve at the loss of a loved one?
i can see in front of other jw's they feel the need to maintain the party line, but in private?

I think at least some "protect" themselves from grief by avoiding any deep connections with any body. Anything that makes 'em nervous--they just disengage, whether it is "suspect behavior" or somebody getting sick.
