So I go to that dinner with my parents. It worked great! I think I increased my mom's cog dis just by showing her I am the same good person, and having fun. We talked about any other topic, but not religion.
I think I discovered another aspect of my mom's real personality: She would like me to have a comfortable lifestyle. We discussed my career path, and she recommended me to go to another position that pays more... We talked about plans for the future for myself...
Her real self would like me to do what "normal" people do. I am glad her real self loves me.
The problem was, they gave me my mail that I have received for the past two weeks. One letter was an "invitation" to a JC... on the 14th!!
I was wondering if I should ask for a delay. I was advised by friends who are not JW's to postpone the JC as much as possible, and when it can't be postponed anymore, THEN not go. Meanwhile, try to hang out with mom and dad as much as possible, and have lots and lots of fun, to increase the cog dis. Reinforce on my mom the idea that I won't go crazy doing drugs or smoking or things of that nature. (I simply disagree with 99% of Watchtower teachings).
I think of this song...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0E3c-X86Y6o"Sure, brother elder (insert all sorts of expletives) who wants to destroy my family, let's set my JC for the 30th of February, 2199"!!

Why JWs would commit murder if ordered to by the GB
by kneehighmiah inpsychology class is teaching me so much.
it's a core class, as i want to study medicine or biochemistry eventually.
we were assigned to read about obedience.

I tend to agree with kneehigh... It is not a far stretch for JW's to go insane....
Let's say they start saying that killing apostates, like in the OT, is actuallly a literal thing, that despite its illegality, it should be done...
Combine literalness of killing apostates, with "following the higher authorities, unless it goes against Jehovah’s
the Governing Body's will," and you have murderous JW's...
Seriously, THEY HAVE MANAGED TO MAKE PEOPLE KILL THEMSELVES!!
How far from that is actually killing other people??

Beard or no beard?
by ILoveTTATT inso i already moved out of the house, but until the elders don't give me (supposedly) the letter inviting me to a jc and then me not going, i am still a witness and my mom can still talk to me.
my dad wants us to meet, but my mom had said that if i have my beard she might not want to see me (she is a completely blinded jw... beards = apostate = i am a horrible human being).
so... my question is, given that i can grow it later, should i shave it off so my mom feels more comfortable?

Ok so I am done with the visit. I offered to babysit the house while they were away celebrating their 30th anniversary. I shaved. I didn't want my mom suffering.
It was good!! No religious talk at all, I tried to show my mom I am the same person as before.
They gave me the letter that the elders gave to them informing me of my JC... Among other mail
I don't know if they will want me to get the certified letter to make it official, but I am sure my parents will tell the elders that they handed me the letter. I don't give a rat's ass when my JC is going to be, not going and not caring and not writing a da letter. Just want them to tell me when I will be officially "out" so I can "come out of the closet" with my FB and whatever friends remain will remain.
I will update whenever I can.

Yep... What to talk about is the second question. What can I do to help her? Maybe talk about what I have been doing, like work and other stuff?
I will try to make a list of topics to talk about that are neutral... And talk about lots of them!!
I think I will tell them of my photography projects, how I plan to lose weight, where I want to travel, etc...

What should I talk about?
should I keep it? To show her it makes no difference in my personality and that I won't follow stupid WT rules?

Was There ANYTHING The Watchtower Taught You That Benefited You?
by minimus inbesides learning how to speak publicly, has the watchtower given you any benefits?
?.
-
ILoveTTATT
I guess there were a few benefits... Like not smoking and not doing drugs... I don't know if I would have gone and done those things if I had never been a witness.
But for that small benefit (which most religions teach anyways), I lost a lot.

Growing a beard!!
by ILoveTTATT ini am doing one of my dreams for a while: growing a beard.
it may not seem like much, but it's quite the experience for me.
it's probably a rite of passage from jw to exjw lol.. besides the itchyness, i hate it that it curls so much (i have hairs that naturally start to curl after a certain length).. anyone here have tips on taking care of a beard?
