I usually go for the dichotomy, every time I talk to a JW I will read to them Matthew 24 and start asking questions about it. They always end up squirming as they realize everything Jesus warned about they fit into. It's even better if you bring up another religion first and they agree to it, then you correlate their religion.

Guys!! Guys!!! Two Jehovah's Witnesses were just at my door!!
by ziddina inand of course, i had some fun with them... an older, brunette woman who obviously dyes her hair and could stand to lose a bit of weight, and a slim blonde teenage girl - probably around 15 - 17.... i started out by asking them if they knew how old the bible was.... .
(and unfortunately, i think i demonstrated that i wouldn't make a very good "undercover" bible study prospect... .
but they didn't even know how old - young - the bible was!!.

Armageddon
Armageddon who?

That's a quick imitation of a child knocking on the door when a friend from school answers :)

"Evolution" will become a "fact" when you can demonstrate it in a Lab.
Go Google "Observed evidence of speciation". Not only has it been demonstrated but it has happened THOUSANDS of times.

How about hitting the blood issue
"Don't want to die over a cell membrane?"
Then go into some sources that show Hemoglobin is the entire contents of a mature red blood cell. Then ask why a cell membrane is that important.
If your tract is done and you're just looking for links feel free to link to www.youtube.com/timkilgore

GREAT BOOK ! May free your JW loved ones.
by wobble ini have just finished reading a great book entitled "believing bullshit" by stephen law, published by prometheus books of n.y. www.prometheusbooks.com.
in it the author outlines how we come to believe total claptrap most often because of the dubious methods used by the promoters of these ideas.. he does not set out to debunk the ideas themselves as the main purpose of the book, though in passing he has to do so with some .like alien abductions, christian science and homeopathy etc.
his main purpose is to expose the methods used to get people to believe,,and how even if the idea being put forward may be good, or a truth, to use such methods is not justified, and leads one open to being sucked in to an intellectual black hole if you are duped by them.. if this book is read by an active, believing jw they will not smell any rats, but by the end of it, if they are honest with themselves they will see the methods used by the wt as totally dishonest and reminiscent of snake-oil salesmen.. it may just free their minds enough.. i cannot praise it too highly, it is a valuable read for anybody, and shows why even college educated, intelligent people can be fooled by bs..

They won't read it because of the title. This seems like a good book though.

Next time someone says "as JWs were all imperfect but it's still God's Organization"....
by RagingBull inafter seeing some vids and links yesterday about the society's intrest in hedge funds, as well as being in the united way (they have a code for donations thru the united way) i decided to search the wt cd to see if anything negative was said about either.
look what i found;.
from the 2/15/1972 watchtower.

My response to this is:
"What a coincidence, this is the way I feel about the Catholic church. Even though they're imperfect men they have the lineage to be God's organization."Ususally it continues with
"But they teach many false teachings."
"Have the Jehovah's Witnesses ever changed their teachings because it's wrong?"
"Yes."
"So they could be teaching something wrong right now?"
"Yes."
"So Jehovah's Witnesses have many false teachings?"
"No, what we have now is the closest thing to truth."
"What a coincidence, what the Catholics have right now is the closest thing to truth."
"Don't you want those teachings to change."
"Sure, don't you want your false teachings to change?"
"Yes, but we can't go ahead of Jehovah."
"Exactly, we'll have to wait on the lord for those changes."It frustrates the hell out of them.

Is there a correlation between personality type and leaving the WT?...
by Tuesday inon facebook tonight there was a post asking to take a personality test, in posting the personality tests a trend started emerging that certain personality types seem to leave around the same time.. i came out as an intj which is introverted intuitive thinking judging.
which a good paragraph describing it was:.
intjs apply (often ruthlessly) the criterion "does it work?

I think it would be easier to plot graphically if there were set choices, even if it was something like "On a scale of 1 to 10 how important was the doctrine being right in your decision to leave?" Something to that effect. I really just want to see if there's some sort of correlation because I'm interested to see the results. I don't really have any agenda except curiosity.

I was thinking a pretty simple one for ex-JWs, basically what their personality type is. Were they raised in, converted, etc. When did they leave, were they disfellowshipped, disassociated or walked away, whether they were baptized or not and the reason they left. So really just a few questions to see if there is some sort of correllation. Maybe a question on whether they had doubts about their faith and if so how long.

You have a good point Ann, I don't think the Introvert part is really the biggest motivator, I think it's the iNtuitive and Judgement portion but I really think a larger sample is needed.
Does anyone have a Survey Monkey account that they might be able to post a couple surveys.
I'd really like to get some data on those who left vs. those still in. Maybe the folks here can collaborate on what the questions should be. Hopefully this wouldn't turn out disasterous like the last time I tried to do a survey that ended up with everyone giving multiple answers for multiple questions to the point nothing could be tracked. Or just making up their own answers.
