  Does anyone else here find it very odd that Orthadox Jews who still follow the entire old testiment allow blood transfusions? Has anyone ever used that effectively in an argument about the subject, I mean JW's don't follow any part of the old testiment because of Jesus resetting that however they follow the old testiment on this point, when the people who follow the whole testiment don't view it the same way. That's really wierd to me.

  I'm Attending the Memorial

  my lovely girlfriend and i sat down over a homecooked meal, and discussed the pros and cons of attending the memorial.. i decided, with her support, that we would attend.. i spent years of my life pretending to be a witness to please my mother.

  when i left the witnesses, my mother said some hurtful things.. and those things really hurt me... for a while.

  but i established myself as my own person, developed my own relationships, and have gotten a good start on my own life.. i don't know that i want to hurt my mother back, but i do want to make it abundantly clear to her, my grandmother, and all the members of my former congregation, that richierich is alive and kicking.. and i think that walking into the kingdom hall, dressed respectfully in a suit, yet with full piercing jewelry intact, and with erika wearing something classy that steals the brother's eyes, and draws glares from the humble sisters, will be just the thing to send that message to my mother.. i don't plan on partaking or making a disturbance.

  I did the same thing two years after I left, I was with my now wife who was my then fiancee, I was in a suit with my hair down to the middle of my back, and my wife was wearing a little short skirt and a total boob shirt stealing everyone's attention. The elder's were uneasy but for the most part I was completely love bombed by my old friends (all of which are now disfellowshipped). A word of warning though, after not being in a while, GOD IS IT BORING!!!

  i moved to louisville, ky into a new apartment.

  there's the minor leagues for the wwe, ovw down here which is a school where you can learn with the best in the business.

  so i moved down here for like a six month seminar.

So I moved down here for like a six month seminar. It's fairly lonely down here since I don't really know anyone, but hey it's only six months. Besides the place I'm living has an indoor pool, which I think is absolutely phenominal

  can I be DF-ed without hearing?

  okay i know the answer already.. you can.. but i like to ask about this situation.. this jw is been divorced and of course found a new girlfriend.

  quite clear that the relationship is more then just a friendship.

  if you know what i mean.. so in this case is it following the rules that this person isdf-ed, and it is anounced in the cong.

  I wonder if you're contacted for a JC meeting and you tell them that you're not going because you don't feel you should have to answer to them for anything, if you also said something along the lines that if an announcement is made referring to you as disfellowshipped because it infers gross wrong doing it will be slander and you will try to sue the congregation. I'm wondering if that would put a halt on the JC meeting or not? There's a pretty good case for it actually, inferring one is immoral or doing something less than desirable could cost one business and so forth, I think an OK case might be made for slander via disfellowshipping.

  JW kids with Bebo & other such accounts. Its scandelous!

  for those who dont know, bebo is a kind of free web site thing that you can use to put lots of info about yourself, friends & pictures etc.

  i think its a bit like myspace or whatever its called.. anyway, i got asked to look at an individuals page and of course it had links etc to this persons friends.

  all were jw`s.. if i were still a witness, the stuff that is put on these websites would have concerned me.

  My 6 year old gets a Watchtower

  this morning at 9am i was having a shave when the door bell rang.

  within seconds my 6 year old son answered the door (it's school holidays here) and before i could towel the shaving cream off my face i heard the door close again.

  my 6 year old announced "it was some people selling comics" and he handed me a february 15 watchtower - lol.. having a read just now i noted an article our unique solar system how it got here.

  If I as a geologist were called upon to explain briefly our modern ideas of the origin of the earth and the development of life on it to a simple, pastoral people, such as the tribes to whom the Book of Genesis was addressed, I could hardly do better than follow rather closely much of the language of the first chapter of Genesis - Geologist Wallace Pratt.

  Hmm - How I so remember these convincing and powerful endorsements by leading scientists.

  Surely the WTS at its patronising best?

  I don't know if it's really patronizing but it's certainly misleading. That quote was taken from 1928. A good retort to this is mention the time frame that this quote was uttered and then give another quote from Wallace Pratt which was I believe in the next paragraph:

  "No scientific theory is sacro-sanct. Somebody has said that the great glory of science is that its truths of today are its absurdities of tomorrow. And that is so. New facts always inspire scientists to devise new hypotheses and to demolish old ones. " Geologist - Wallace Pratt

  If they're going to try to disprove Evolution, maybe they should read more rescent Intelligent Design literature. Or quote from Darwin on Trial, at least that book makes relevant arguments.

  Did you really want to have "Privileges"

  i don't know about others here, but i couldn't care less about privileges.. i had a couple of privileges, but i really didn't want to get too deep in the org and get too many privileges.

  i didn't want to get tied down with that, and have to leave 30 minutes later every meeting, or have to spend an extra hour or two preparing for something.. .

  all that counted for me as a dub was "paradise" and "eternal life" .

  I am not defined by my past

  every now and then the question comes up about how we define ourselves; whether we will always be ex-jehovahs witnesses.. if the answer to the question is yes then i am married forever to a definition provided by an organization that cares for no one - not even its chosen ones.. it colors who i am today.

  but i am not defined by it.. in the 1960s when few kids had parents who didn't live together i was the odd kid who didn't have a mother around.

  not only had she left my father but she left me.

  It's part of my past I'm not going to forget it. Like you hear people talking about the year they got (insert gift here) for Christmas, or they played High School Football. Same for me, it's part of my past, it doesn't necessarily define me, but it definetly explains some of my strange interests.
