I'm sure if the elders do corner you and you just say that you're feeling too stressed to go to meetings they'll leave you alone for the most part. You may end up inactive, but at least then you'll be able to talk to your parents still, plus you'll have your new relationships with your brother and sister too. Life will be great.

Getting nervous

after lurking on the site, i realize my story is like many here.
the reason i am feeling nervous is that i have not broken the news to my parents yet about my inactivity as well as my standing as to what i think about this whole thing.

If you're not a fan of that, when I'm feeling happy I'll download any sort of punk cover song of some 80's pop song. Me First and The Gimme Gimmes are best for this.

There was always the talks that were about grooming, always mentioning how men should not have long hair or beards.
When the DO came to the congregation I always hated hearing the special needs talk. It wasn't until later when I was fascinated by the idea of someone getting ranked in their spirituality, I mean the whole congregation was ranked. Any former DO's out there that can give us the formula that equates a congregation's spirituality?

Why did they not try to 'Save' me?
by AK - Jeff ini have pondered this question on many occasions.
when i began to have 'doubts' and began to 'question' some doctrine, and particularly the lack of christian love, very little effort was made to 'snatch me out of the fire' as elders are admonished to do.
i have always wondered why we as jw's would spend countless hours trying to start bible studies with 'wordly' people, while at the same time ignoring those who are moving away from dead center of the organization.

I don't know if it's fear or that they just don't want to hear anything anti-orginization. They feel they could get in trouble for even hearing it.
I don't know that all elder's do it for the power, I mean given alot may seem that way and even alot really do just want the power in the congregation, but I know I was approached once. At my Grandmother's funeral one of the elder's came up to me and said "I'm only a phone call away" he was sincere and it was a nice guesture, so I of course ruined it by saying "so am I".

The great debate
by darth frosty incoming up, i remember how the jw heavies would brag how back in the day (the 30's and 40's) witnesses would have debates against various religous leaders on matters of faith.
they claimed the reasons the debates ceased, was they used to whip the religious leaders so bad, it became pointless.
as we all know today, witlesses want no part of an earnest deabate with any one.

Wise man once said: Never try to win an argument with an idiot.
That's a really great quote. I would want someone who was well versed in fallacies, someone who could point out the fallacy of every argument, what it's called and give another example of such. I printed out a full list of the fallacies and am trying to commit them to memory, but that's the only way you're going to really win an argument with a witness I think, if you can show that every argument that they come up with is not really an argument but a false statement. Most debates are just filled with fallacies, if you use the bible there's going to be a scripture that can prove everything. How do you win a bibical debate? Come up with one more scripture that proves your point than the other guy, how do you know which scripture is more important than another scripture? With the doctrine, won't they just say "Those are old statements, the light gets brighter"? I fail to see how to win a debate on that point.

Ha, that's funny that same song I dug the dark sounding part. I made this mash-up of it where I put Jay-Z's Golddigger over the first part of that song.
The most annoying song for me was the one that did the whole "Kiss the son, lest God be angry" I think it's because my congregation sang it so loudly.

I don't think it's in bad taste it just doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. The T-Shirt hell one Ritchie mentioned is hilarious and I get some good reactions when I wear it. There's another shirt which says Jehovah's Witness Protection Program, which most witnesses I know want one of.
Not tasteless, just not very funny.
