  Is Faith Immoral?

  when people willfully believe something without evidence, or contrary to evidence, are they neglecting thier moral responsibility?

  so many people say faith is a virtue but i just can't comprehend why anyone would think that.

  If you are alone on an island, there are no moral acts beyond maintaining life itself.

  To NOT TRY to maintain life (build a fire, make a "HELP" sign out of rocks, search for food, go fishing, attempt to purify sea water, etc.) is immoral.

  To give up HOPE is to condemn yourself to non-existence.

  FAITH is a form of HOPE.

  Hope says, "I will maintain a positive outlook and effort even though I acknowledge the possibility of failure."

  Faith says, "I am absolutely convinced things will turn out for the best no matter what comes."
  
  Faith is irrational, but has the side-effect of giving you a fighting chance.

  Terry sir I don't know how you do it but you have wonderful ability to crystallize some of the most difficult to realise concepts into bite sized digestible chunks. This is a beautiful gift. I really enjoy your solid and clear thinking as it helps me to understand how I am evolving with TTATT.

  I don't even think about faith now. I have no reason to have any. But I do have great hope, and that is what keeps my flame inside alight and burning.

  My summer camp job experience

  this summer i met a russian women i worked at a summer camp for people with developmental disabilities and she is going back to russia in september.

  i grew to really like her as a person.

  i just feel empty that she is now gone to new york heading beck to moscow we hung out on three seperate occasions and i enjoyed myself and her company .

  on coftys thread about his former pastor trying to re-convert him, which is very long but a tremendous discussion of the problem of evil, a poster, sunny23, wrote :.

  i was only thinking the other day how, as i discovered this site and ttatt, i really changed as a person in so many ways, and i think mainly for the better.. i have been "born again" !!.

  After the initial shock, disbelief, hurt, anger, rage.. there is now a most pleasant calm, peace, acceptance, relief, an indescribable renewed sense of freedom to think and feel and be. I don't know the answers and and am not in the slightest bit worried about not doing so. Guilt too is no longer a part of my life and my sense of self-worth is gradually re-balancing itself to acceptable norms.

  I have regained my empathy and love too towards all people everywhere instead of having it choked and confined to only those the org told me I should love.

  Being truthful about the truth is maybe the best and most important single thing that has happened to me on the last 30 years. I am immensely grateful for this.

  You can have faith without having hope, and you can also have hope without having faith. They do not automatically go hand in hand.

  Hope - wishing something is true or will be true.

  Belief - is thinking something is true (or probably true) for a reason.

  Faith - knowing something is true without any possible reason what so ever.
