In the next month or so the area that I live in, there is going to be two Walmarts opening that are only about 10 miles apart from each other and a Lowe's hardware store. Already a hardware store that had been in business for over 30 has closed. So far none of the business (that were left after the mall opened) in the downtown area have closed. I hope that our downtown areas survives Walmart. As for the economy it's so-so. Some people must have really good jobs because there a lot of really big houses being built in the area. We still have coal mines and a few steel mills here, but with the tariffs being lifted, I don't know if the steel mills that are left will survive.

well, here we are - three quarters of a century of weekend polls.

doesn't seem like it, but when i look back, well, we've sent these polls from downunder and from the tropical jungles of exotic regions as well as from the northern polar region.. so how's the weekend shaping ip?

First of all I usually arrived late, sometimes I would miss about half the talk (stomach problems was my excuse :-) Then for the rest of the talk I would doze off or daydream. I would design my flower and veggie garden in my head. I would think of new ways to decorate my house. Then it was time for a restroom brake. I did try to pay attention, really.

My brother died last night

my brother turned 21 on september 24th, a month later the doctor told him that his leukimia had returned and he had a 10% chance of surviving.

ten days before he died he spent four days at my house.

he had already made up his mind that he wasnt going to take blood.

disassociated without baptism

i believe there was a topic about disfellowshipping an unbaptized person awhile back but i can't remember enough of the details to find it.. i was speaking with a friend yesterday who was disassociated as a young teenager, complete with a reading to the congregation and shunning, despite the fact that this person was never baptized.. (i tipped my hand a bit by blurting out that they aren't supposed to be able to do that if you aren't baptized.

Blondie, yes she was an unbaptized publisher, she gave talks the whole bit. The elders never met with her at all. It was like they didn't know that she was missing. She went to that Kingdom Hall as a newborn until she was 18, it wasn't like they didn't know who she was. At the time I was devastated, I felt that the elders didn't know that she existed and it really hurt. Our congregation was having some problems at the time (we had two elders all of a sudden transfer to our congregation). They were probably too busy to be bothered with her at the time. She wasn't very strong in the "truth" and probably not worth their time, plus she was a female. Now I'm glad that we've been left alone, I just hope it continues.

I'm confused (don't take much). My daughter was raised in the truth, never baptized. She stopped going to meetings when she was 18. If she would have been baptized she defiantly would have been disfellowshipped, she committed a "sin" that was well known among all in the congregation. Basically we have been left alone, not a peep regarding my daughter from the elders. I don't even know if they announced that she was a disapproved associate. When she is meet out in public she is treated very well by the "friends". Is there some unwritten rule that some congregations follow and others don't?

Religious fanaticism is a great breeding ground for pettiness

having been raised as a dub, as i look back to those days, i can't count the number of times issues were raised by the pettiest of things.

buying a vehicle that was anything but a foor-door sedan - you know, the kind most suitable for service - could in fact start a whirl-wind of gossip - he's not putting "kingdom" interests first...they don't need another car - if they're that well off then they should be helping out a little more with our kingdom hall's expenses etc.. what are some of the most pettiest issues you have seen raised while you were a dub?.

Welcome Waymers Ghost! As to the pettiness in our congregation I could write a book!

We had a ms (elder wannabe, that finally made elder) stand in the back of the hall and count all that made trips to the restroom during the meetings. So of course I made several trips just to make sure I was counted several times :-). They even had a special needs talk on not using the restroom during the meetings unless it was really necessary, something about if we had outhouses instead we surely wouldn't be making trips to the toilet unless it was an emergency.

Another ms (elder wannabe, that finally made elder) was on some kind of vendetta that all should wash their hands after using the toilet (which is a good policy, by the way). There was a special needs talk on this also. He drew some pictures of hands and the cycle of germs when hands aren't washed, he framed and hung these pieces of artwork in both restrooms of the kh to remind us all to wash our hands. I felt like I was in kindergarten.

So many great actors/actresses from Australia....

i just saw "mulholland drive", featuring the incredibly lovely naomi watts, who pulled off what is one of the most superb acting performances i've ever witnessed, she was spectacular.

i did a little bit of internet research after seeing the movie, because it was very strange and even though i enjoyed it, i couldn't make any sense of it.

among other things, i learn that the aforementioned ms. watts is an aussie.

When would a non -baptized person be DA'ed?? ( Blondie or others)

on ozzie post i noticed this statement from blondiedoes anyone remember the days when an unbaptized person was "disassociated".

i was of the impression that kids who were brought up in the "truth" but had not been baptized would still be da'ed if they were caught doing something against any of the many rules.has this changed???.

could a local congo still practice da'ing even if head office had changed their policy??

My daughter was raised in the "Truth" but never baptized (smart girl), she stopped going to meetings when she was 18. She has done things that she would be DF for if she had been Baptized, and everyone know it. She has not been shunned, in fact she has been treated real nice by the "friends" when she meets them in public. My hubby is still a JW and the Elders have not advised him to cut any ties with her (she no longer lives at home). Actually the Elders pretty much have ignored the situation.

Have You Had Any "Blessings" Since You've Left The Truth?

Isn't that the truth! The first time in 20 plus years I'm really happy and at peace with myself. I still have a long way to go, but I'm enjoying the journey.

Last weekend I went to the CA, I had quite a few people come up to me and ask me how I was doing, I said "really great" and that is the truth! A couple of sisters actually came up to me a remarked on how good I looked, and I said "Being an Apostate really agrees with me" just kidding!
