Love amongst the "brothers"

the one thing that jws claim is the love they have for one another.

i am well aware of some of the things that have been done in the congregation for members and i believe real love was shown.

in times of natural disaster jws have been very good at caring for their own.

From what I've read here (and experienced personally) Dubs definitely have turned the oxymoron 'conditional love' into a valid English language construct. Damn, I thought I had it bad, but people like PuffsRule's mom must have had it several orders of magnitude worse than I did. There are maybe a handful of Dubs I have known who TRULY displayed the sort of brotherly love that the WTBTS extolls so hollowly and hypocritically - one was an actual elder, but he was a very humble, nice guy (from Nigeria). He's actually one of the nicest people I've ever met! It's a pity I lost touch with him. About a year after I DA'd myself, I saw him at my place of work (I was a salesmen for about a year, urgh), and he was just so unbelievably friendly. I was stunned. He was like 'Hi, how are you keeping, we miss you in the KH, blah blah blah...' when really I think it was him and his wife who were probably the only people who missed me, I guess the rest of the people in that particular hall probably thought 'Good riddance'. Same to them!!!

Damn, I'm still trying to wrap my head around PuffsRule and Lauralisa's stories...geez...

Very vague question, that...but consider this - surrounding every neuron in your brain is a sheath of lipids (fat), which have some very remarkable quantum properties that science is only just beginning to explore. As far as we can tell today, these lipid sheaths somehow directly modulate activity at the electronic level in the actual neural impulses, owing to as-yet-not-understood quantum forces and energies. So what do you think of that? My feeling is that the human brain is a lot more complex than we can imagine, and that thought is definitely something that happens at the sub-atomic, possibly even the sub-electronic level, where everything descends into chaos.

i think it's theraputic in a way.... well a little background.

my father is black, and my mother native american (this is important down the road).

Welcome! I actually have a lot of respect for Native American Indian culture myself, and I've researched it quite a bit. You guys had a good thing going before the Mayfair pitched up :) Sure, the Indians weren't very technically advanced, but they were a very peaceful culture, one that we could learn some good lessons from today.

This is exactly the sort of thing that the GB always uses in order to wrench the little strings attached to our hearts. I mean, I even got a familiar old 'twinge' when I read this - but then I realized that it was a dumb urban legend. I'm sure that the GB will tell us soon that all of the Dubs who died in this disaster (I'm sure there was at least a handful!) were 'weak in the truth', as someone has already mentioned.

It really pisses me off to see how the WTBTS is yet again flexing it's mind-control muscles...arg.

The JW Darwin Awards

i've been entertaining myself recently by reading wendy northcutt's, the darwin awards ii which is a delightfully funny book about people so stupid that they either try to eliminate themselves from the gene pool or do so big time.. i couldn't help but think of two real life examples of jw's who should have been in this book.

one fellow was a young teenage male who had just got baptized and had recently been counseled by the elders about the sins of masturbation.

evidently he didn't let that sink in and i heard that he had a rather embarrassing emergency.

Can't think of any really dumb JWs myself...but did you read about the one where the two guys tried to set off fireworks on top of a tank filled with gas about two stories high? That was funny. Apparently they cleaned them off the concrete with toothbrushes!

Or the one which I suspect is an urban legend, where a guy strapped an F14 jet engine to his truck. Good God. Apparently he hit the side of a cliff at nearly the speed of sound. QUITE a painful way to go!
