Hey guys, chill out! I don't believe that ole' Icke is right or anything, I just felt that the fellow conspiracy theorist lovers on this site might enjoy the link, is ALL!

My view of this whole mess?

It was orchestrated. I'm sure I've posted somewhere else in detail (to YK I think) about the various things about the US Government which don't make sense, like the fact that the supposed pilots couldn't fly at all according to their flight school instructors, the new laws that are suddenly being passed which restrict your freedom in America, and so forth. It all smells very bad to me! Right now all I can say is, I feel sorry for you guys up there in the North, it must be tough when stuff like that goes down. My sincere condolences to your sudden loss of liberty and freedom.

Look at it this way: first there came the DMCA, which made it illegal to import SERIAL FRIGGING CABLES into America (apparently they can be used to pirate software :(), and also made it illegal to write certain types of generic decryption algorithms.

To sum it up, you can go to jail for making the big boys (TimeWarnerMicrosoftAOL et al) lose a little bit of money. Nice.

Next there came the soon-to-be-infamous Patriot Act. It's just wrong on so many levels...

well this isn't just another "boohoo, i'm so depressed, bwaaa!

" thread...this is a more detailed investigation into the reason behind my sadness.

i felt like i could share it with the people on this board, as you lot in general seem to be far more emotionally sensitive than a lot of people on the internet.. i've been listening to ok computer by radiohead, and i must say, it's by far some of the most emotional music i've ever listened to.

hehe, i knew that thread topic would get me lots & lots of hits!

ok, here's the situation: my dear friend refuses to be convinced that we were not created by aliens (or some higher form of life, apparently outside the universe) about 8,000 or so years ago.

here are the arguments i have presented to him and what he said.

Question: Since we were created by Higher Intelligence, where is the HI now?
Answer: Outside our Universe. (ARGHARGH this has to be the worst one...)
Question: Explain the fossil record, and why more primitive creatures are ALWAYS at the bottom and more complex ones higher up in the various strata we have investigated.
Answer: That's just a coincidence, and you can make the fossil record say whatever you want.
Question: Then why don't we find Brontosaurs next to ancient human skeletons in caves (an exaggeration!)
Answer: Coincidence....weak, WEAK answer!
Question: OK, since we were created by these HIs, why do we share so many useless chromosomes with other animals? Why in fact are our chromosomes in any way related to those of other animals? Wouldn't it have been more efficient to have just one set of highly specialized 'human' chromosomes and so forth?
Answer: Because the HIs used a template, containing only certain chromosomes.
Question: So then why are there cetaceans at all? Surely some evolutionary process was responsible for THEM, since it's obvious that they were once land living, what with the vestigial hind limbs etc?
Answer: The HIs made them for diversity, and they were never semi-aquatic, that is obviously ridiculous!

Also, this guy believes there is a vast conspiracy theory related to the whole science of Archeology, and that all the millions of amateur archeologists out there are in on it. ARGH! How do I convince this guy that he is BEYOND deluded?

Need computer help - data recovery

simon, rw, jan, norm, af, farkel & anyone else this is a cry for help.... i really need help recovering data were the directory is lost.. i have a hard drive that i pulled off of a machine that crashed.

i have slaved it to a machine running xp in order to recover data files.

when looking at the hd properties for this drive it shows that 9 gigs out of 20 are used yet will not show a directory of files on the drive.

Oh boy, you're going to have to see a data-recovery dude about this, because NTFS is HAIRY. There is a good chance that your data is lost at the logical filesystem level, but there's an excellent chance that it still exists at the electromagnetic level. Believe me, I've seen some of these data-recovery tools read info from low-level formatted hard drives that people thought were clean.

Exactly how mission-critical is this stuff? Secret nuclear weapons plans perhaps?

BTW these recover guys are not cheap, esp. not if the filesystem itself has removed your data. Luckily NTFS doesn't immediately knock out unused clusters that used to be occupied by files, it leaves them until it runs out of space, thank God, so most recovery guys should be able to trawl the files off your drive within a few minutes or so. Like I said earlier, it all depends on what you did with those files...
