I was just reading jim's response and thought "How jwish!" Christians love to say that "god is the same yesterday, today and tommorow." And of course when and if the jw's revise thier blood policy they will excuse the deaths of so many innocent people by saying that god had a purpose that we just do not understand. Wait on jehovah! New light! Yes, this loving god of the bible will sacrifise millions of innocent lives to vindicate his divine name.

Many people claim that the God of the Bible loves children and fetuses. But what does the Bible say?
Kill both man and woman, infant and suckling... (1 Samuel 15:3)
Their infants will be dashed in pieces before their eyes... (Isaiah 13:6)
Happy is he that dashes your little ones against the stones. (Psalms 137:9)

Strange comment after shooting
by detective ini was listening to the news this morning and they were reporting on a double shooting that had just happened at a pharmacy.
details about the shooting weren't available as it had just happened but the reporter detailed what he was witnessing as the emts removed two badly wounded victims from the pharmacy.. about ten minutes later he came back on the radio and gave an update, including comments from a pharmacy employee who was due in at nine am (the shooting must have taken place around 8:30 or so).. .
reporter: did you find what happened here surprising?.

I believe that our media driven instant graphic information deludge along with the reality looking entertainment that dominates our society has made many "shock proof". On TLC you can watch corpses being examined. Live broadcast of horrific events from around the world are presented daily on our cable news networks.
I say not to be overly suspicious. Everyone reacts to shock in differing ways. Some scream and cry while others are stunned to silence. Others seem calm and composed. This lady may have gone home and cried herself to sleep as her body shook throughout the night.

As most ex-jws here know we were trained and mentally prepared to be persacuted. Indeed having a door slammed in the face, going to prison or persacution of any form was worn as a badge of honor. This events only PROVED that we were right in god's eyes.
Indeed the jw's "faith" in thier god is barely overshadowed by the faith the islam radicals demonstrated on 9-11. Thank goodness the jw's are a passive group.

Why is there growth in the Jehovah's Witness relig
by kenpodragon inone of the most amazing and disturbing events in human history, has got to be the time of the black plague.
in which people were dying so fast and in such numbers that the authorities were unable to bury them fast enough.
disease in general has been a terrible part of the human race, even today.

Personally I do not think god had anything to do with it. Through out the history of man he has created a god to credit for good and a devil to credit for evil. If a man succeeds in business or sports "god had blessed him".
The United States credits god as having blessed them as a nation for their wealth and power. After 9-11 Bush wore out his usage of "the evil ones" in identifying the enemies of the U.S. And of course the enemies of the U.S. would label that nation as evil.
The JW's have a very slick sales organization. They have been very prolific publishers and clearly their growth has been from this relentless door to door ministry.
By the way: the devil made me write this post! LOL

Assembly picketing
by freedom96 in.
when i went to the assemblies, i would see people picketing, holding signs up, etc.
you would have "security" to look out for green bibles, and keep opostates out.. i never looked at them with hatred, never really gave it much thought at all.. i am curious if anyone here has participated in protesting the assemblies, and what were the reactions?

Since finding these forums by ex-jws I have learned a lot. Though I still read many of the post and reply to a few I have brought heat upon myself by remarking how I feel that most that live in such forums are still consumed by the JWs. Personally I do not see the advantage of picketing. I agree that it brings more negative than any good. Though I agree with the silent lambs main issue of child abuse in the org I also am aware that this is not JUST a JW issue. I have posted news articles about religious leaders being arrested for such conduct throughout the nation and other religious groups having tried to cover-up such activities. I do remember the picketers and the warnings about such. I also remember that the picketers actions never drew much of my attention and only confirmed, in my mind, that they were indeed just disgruntled ex-jws.

The Key to Understanding Scripture
by Zechariah inthe following is a repost of a april 2001 post on h2o.. .
the key to properly understanding the bible is remembering that it is all about the spirit.
whatever is spoken of in the bible no matter how literal it appears to be is intended to convey something of the spirit.

If the bible is the "word of god" and clearly, since it is a physical, material book, it was written for men- supposedly to help man understand god and his purpose why would a loving, thoughtful god have it written in such a way? Would you raise your child explaining fucntions of life and needed information for success in life in such a way?
Oh yes, God said, let us write a book for man, but write it so that not all can understand it and so that it can be used to create division and confusion. And though I, god, created man, the book will be full of spirit thought-
Sounds like god played russian roulette with truth....

AP) -- A study suggests the oft-reported sensation of leaving the body during a brush with death may have a simple explanation in the body itself.
These "out-of-body" and "near-death" experiences -- in which people resuscitated on the operating table speak of being drawn toward a brilliant light, or looking down on their own bodies -- may be influenced by a portion of the brain misfiring under stress, the study suggests.
The paper describes one patient's visions while she was being evaluated for epilepsy and does not wrestle with issues of the soul. And researchers noted that the brain-mapping results may not entirely explain the phenomenon.
The study focuses on a processing center in the brain known as the angular gyrus, thought to play an important role in the way the brain analyzes sensory information to give us a perception of our own bodies. When it misfires, they speculate, the result can be visions of floating outside of ourselves.
The findings were published in Thursday's issue of the journal Nature.
"We do not fully understand the neurological mechanism that causes OBEs," conceded the study's lead researcher, neurologist Dr. Olaf Blanke at the University Hospitals of Geneva and Lausanne in Switzerland.
Skeptics of out-of-body experiences said the experiment goes a long way toward providing a scientific explanation for what some believe is a paranormal phenomenon, even if the study is based on only one patient.
"It's another blow against those who believe that the mind and spirit are somehow separate from the brain," said psychologist Michael Shermer, director of the Skeptic Society, which seeks to debunk alien abductions and other paranormal claims. "In reality, all experience is derived from the brain."
Other researchers described the experiment as modest but interesting.
Neurologist Dr. Bruce Greyson of the University of Virginia said the experiment does not necessarily prove that all out-of-body experiences are illusions.
"We cannot assume from the fact that electrical stimulation of the brain can induce OBE-like illusions that all OBEs are therefore illusions," Greyson said.
The Swiss researchers mapped the brain activity of a 43-year old woman who had been experiencing seizures for 11 years. They implanted electrodes to stimulate portions of her brain's right temporal lobe.
The temporal lobe, which includes the angular gyrus structure, is associated with perception of sound, touch, memory and speech.
Blanke suspects that the right angular gyrus integrates signals from the visual system, as well as information on touch and balance.
When electrical stimulation was applied, the patient reported seeing herself "lying in bed, from above, but I only see my legs and lower trunk." She also described herself as "floating" near the ceiling.
Millions of people have reported OBEs, but relatively few have been clinically analyzed.
Last December, the British medical journal Lancet published a Dutch study in which 344 cardiac patients were resuscitated from clinical death. About 12 percent reported seeing light at the end of a tunnel, or speaking to dead relatives.
Other researchers have suggested that OBEs occur as brain cells die from lack of oxygen, or when the brain releases pain-reducing chemicals called endorphins.

LET GO! My mother- only remaining member of my family is still a JW. At 78 it is the only social life she knows. I make a few comments but do not work to dampen her spirit.
Being an EX JW should only mean that the religion was not for you- As far as I am concerned ALL organized religion are cultist to various degrees. Some people just plain need that kind of structure in their lives....
