All religion has scandels. They are man made. An unpolular comment to make here- but one I feel is true- is that the WT works well for some people. Just like Catholism works well for many. From where I sit you comments are welcome here just as all others are. You will be hard pressed to find anyone on this forum or any ex-jw forum that will agree with your statements. I am glad to be away from the organization. I do not hold any hosility or anger toward the group and I do not consider them any worse or better than most all organized religions. Like the mormons they have a stict set of rules based upon their interpretation of the bible. If you feel they are well suited for you I wish you the best. I would question, like others here, why if you feel they are right would you spend your time on such sites as this?

everone is in confusion
by zolensky ini joined this site last week hoping to meet people that would steer me back to the organization.
instead the people i have talked to her are all trying to tell me too see the light and get out of the organization.
in my opinion, not that it matters, i really think that if a person had the truth deeply ingrained in them, they would never leave the truth.

Does praying "work"?
by SpannerintheWorks inhas anybody got any hard evidence that asking for something, through prayer, actually gives them what they were asking for?.
jesus promised to give anything to them that asked.
have you asked for something (in prayer), but it hasn't been given?.

Normon Vincent Peale wrote a book called "Expect a Miracle, Make Miracles Happen". Faith is a powerful tool. To me it is an important facet of life. However you choose to define "god" and whatever you believe about life and eternity we all place faith in something. Whether you pray, meditate or pratice yoga such a mindset does powerful things to a person physically and emotionally. Prayer in and of itself is a form of meditation. It provides one with the faith and will to accomplish things. It instills in ones self the belief that one can do. Another book is "The power of positive thinking". As simplistic as these statements may seem they accomplish powerful things. A positive, smiling, upbeat person inspires others and seems to go through life much better. They focus on the positive things of life- not the negative. By doing so they get more positive things out of life.
So simply put prayer works. Because it helps put one into the positive thinking mode. It empowers one to believe that big things can be accomplished.

How did you feel about 'fake' witnesses?
by Simon ini'm sure you know the ones i mean ... they decided to have a family 'present day' on dec 26th each year so that the kids could announce what presents they got while the rest of us 'zealots' were getting the piss taken out of us.. at the time, i could not understand how or why they did it or got away with it - it seemed obvious to me that thwy were celebrating christmas and we were not supposed to.
but hell, what did i know ... i was only a kid ... not an elder .
now, i kind-a-think "yeah, do what's right for your kids" but also "you're not fooling anyone!

My maternal grandparents were part of the original Bible Studants before they called themselves JWs. Though my grnadmother dies in 1975 I always will remember how, though she was strong in her JW faith always kinda liked the holidays. She never quite adapted to the "new light" on the subject. I always stayed i at her house as a jw kid because we had fun on halloween!

Spousal Abuse Thoughts
by DakotaRed ini have been having an ongoing discussion with a friend about spousal abuse.
she has come to accept and believe that i have never hit a woman in my life, but feels that i am a rarity.
i contend that i am not, that although too many men still hit their wives, they are in the minority.

Though I was once married to a woman that hit and threw things in fits of anger I could never hit a woman. I agree that that behavior- men hitting women- does happen I feel that it is not as prevelant as it once was. Society has developed to a point that women stand up and no longer silently tolerate such behavior- They are no longer so dependant on thier man and are much more apt to pack their bags and leave... IMHO

Thinking about Bill Bowen...
by Pathofthorns ini was looking over the thread... "should i support bill bowen?".
i realize i am one of the few people that gave bill somewhat of a difficult time pretty much from the beginning when it was not "fashionable" to do so.
it was never my hope to see the man reduced to what he has, but rather to gain a better understanding of the issues involved, the intents and goals of silentlambs and to see reasonableness govern everyone's actions in the whole affair.. imo, i don't think there is any other single person in the last while that has done so much to help address the issue of child abuse among jw's while at the same time exposing them for what they really are.

Trauma- Sure I noted the dateline show and the Connie Chung show. I also noted the media attention in the media overseas- this is why I said "national media" in this country- after the dateline show and connie chung little or no media (national) attention has been given in THIS country. Yes- some local media. No national coverage on the march that I know of. And no trauma- did not know that you had your own site. And, after having visited the silentlambs.org site in previous months I have not been back since. But, I do scan the major news papers almost daily and watch many of the major cable network news channels. I also scan these sites and followup on stories posted here. Since the connie chung show I have not noticed any national coverage nor has any been brought to my attention. After the NY march no national coverage was brought- Not even the New York Times covered the story and they had carried articles about silent lambs in the past- prior to the march. If there has been more current -national- in the USA coverage- as I was referring to in my post- please advise me where, I would like to see. I am not speaking of local channel 11 stuff or the Press Gazette out of Milton, Fl.
As I re read my post that you are referring to I can see that my wording was not good in regard to the media. I hope that this along with the context of my post clarifys my point. What I was trying to point out was that after the mementum and yes the couple of national news shows suddenly it looked as if the major news shows dropped coverage of the story. And the added point that if the facts were there to back up all the accusations I persoanlly think that the media would have stayed on the case. I regret that this is all that seems to have been gained from my post.
No, renborn, the WT is not anything near the size of the catholic org. Though I am already aware of the great difference in size between the two I am sure that those who were not are greatful for your figures. My point again is that regardless of the smaller size of the WT if and that is IF the allegations about the GB and thousands of others is accurate and true as stated by the spokesman for silent lambs the media would still have focused on the story. Believe me even the small church in Georgia stayed in the national media when abuse was uncovered. The media looks for FACT to back up their story. My belief is that the media found fact for SOME of the allegations but also found that many allegations were being thrown that could not be proved. If all these allegations had validity in the eyes of the media they would have hounded the WT to no end regardless of thier small size in numbers.
