I am trying to like myself right now... I never have liked myself. I always, and still do hate myself. The problem is getting over guilt. The WTBTS was supposedly my key to happiness, and hopefully the end of this endless circle. Instead, they made me feel worse, like nothing was ever good enough...
Lady Lee, I know right where you are coming from.... your comments make me feel not so lonely in this world....
My depression has subsided, for now, thanks to some alternative advice, and a certain diet and vitamins. Hopefully this will help me to work on this, and make me at least like myself....

What was the funniest counsel/encouragement you rec'd from an elder ???
by run dont walk inkind of similiar to minimus question, this one got me thinking.. the funniest for me has to be the elders telling me i should buy a 4-door car for field service and not to buy a camaro.
i almost believed them.
telling me in would not be proper to drive that in field service.

I was counseled b/c my head was "shaved".... the elders thought that I looked like a skinhead! I sure didn't listen to them about that one......
Was counseled for watching the Simpsons.... an elder who used to live upstairs from me watched every thursday married with children... I used to go up there, and we'd have a good laugh...

Returning 20 years of JW books to KH need opinions
by SpunkyChick inmy mom and i have been cleaning out the basement and gathered over 20 years worth of jw books, magazines, tracts (some dating from the 1950's!).
we are playing with the idea to return the jw material in a box, with the words "we quit" and a xeroxed copy of the cover coc next sunday morning in front of the local kh.
does anyone have any better/more sarcastic ideas?

Hee!!@! I love it!
I personally went through all my books, made sure that there were no identifiable marks on them, put them in boxes, and dropped them off at the KH. I hated packing that crap around all those years!

"New light" on Independant thinking?

it goes into the usual wt waffle about the persecution and harrassment of jws, religious freedom etc, but the following quote caught my eye:the study also revealed a much higher level of education among jehovah's witnesses (when compared with that of the average muscovite), which tends toward independent rational thinking and decision-making.
now, this would give joe public that the average jw is therefore able to think for himself, and reach his own conclusions independantly.

Getting Old
by Undecided ini'm getting near 68 and i can't do the things i used to do without some pain.. yesterday i worked on the lawn mower and i had to lift it onto the pinic table, wow!
i didn't know they made them so much heavier now.. today i'm replacing the brake pads on my 4x4 truck.
my back just won't hold up long enough to finish both wheels.

I know what you mean... I'm only well, let's say in my 30's, (my profile date is WRONG).. anyways, I used to be very fit, could climb any mountain...
I had a serious accident where my ankle was horribly broken. It took me 5 years to get back to a reasonable working ankle.... and now, well, I can't climb anything~!
The lesson there is, as you get older, and are not quite so active, your body kinda goes "backwards"... muscles don't get used, your back gets sore, and it's hard to get back to that level. Even when you do, it's never the same as when you were young....
Yes, it sucks getting older. Obviously I am not as old as you, but I certainly feel it! It seems, though that you are still doing pretty good! I hope to be doing what you are at your age!

visits to inactive ones is there any directives recieved by elders
by quinah ini know i might have asked this before, but have the elders ever had any directive on visiting inactive ones with a view to finding out their current situation/feelings on being a witness, and then using a negative response as an "excuse" for disassociating them or disfellowshipping them?
i thought i had read some where that there had been a push on visiting inactive ones with a view to doing the above.
i have just mentioned this to the in-laws who are still in the borg, and they asked another elder who denys the fact that this would be done.

I know of no such information... however, someone on this board may have something... give it some time for people to reply. It would be very interesting to see if there is something on it. I believe that it was in the Kingdumb Ministry, or maybe letters to elders? I dunno. Anyways, give it some time for other members to post... I'm not as "learned" as some of these guys!
