You make very good points here. That shows me how an organization can use propaganda just to promote itself. And I agree with you that the Catholic Church has change a lot for the best. But the WT sticks on sins of the past, what we should never do. Anyone must allow that if there is a change, to just aknowledge it, instead of hiding behind preconceived toughts. But the Org. will put great emphasy on doctrines, telling what is true vs. what is not, which is not very important as long as the doctrine are not restrictive on followers (the WT would learn a lesson here if the GB wasn't so narrow minded)

The most violently insane acts in the Bible.
by sleepy inthe bible contains accounts of some horrendously voilent happenings.. some more graphic then many modern films.. this disturbs many when they first read those accounts.. heres one that stood out to me when i first read it.. 1 samuel 15:33 "with that samuel went hacking a'gag to pieces before jehovah in gil'gal".
it wasn't enough just to kill him but samuel hacked him to pieces in front of a large crowd of people.. i wouldn't want to get into a tangle with samuel if he got out of the wrong side of bed that morning.

Good point here REX
good historical knowing and faith in God can live together. Knownledge of the facts only tells a truth about a religion, but it doesn't make someone to lose faith in God. It can provide a better understanding of your faith when all of the remnants of the WT beliefs and behaviors are sweeped away when put against evidence.

What is EVIL? Who Defines?
by D wiltshire inwhat is evil?.
who defines what is truly evil?.
if someone lived a trillion x longer than you, and had a billion x more reasoning ability would he come to the same conclusions as you?.

BTW don't conclude I don't believe in God or Jesus. It's only a matter of faith. Sin cannot be involved here cause everyone could have his own conception.

ok let me be more precise, although no one can really come with a definite definition on this issue. Sin is what you do that will harm somebody. Sin is what you when you commit crime. Sin is what you do when you are mollesting a child. i can go on forever, but i'm sure you'll get the point here. Sin IS NOT what you do when you don't believe in Jesus, God, or everything. You don't have to believe in those things. One could put Bible verses in my face to prove this or that, what if I don't believe it just because i'm using my freewill on that subject?

In my opinion, sin is what you do that goes against common sense. It as nothing to do with Bible teaching. Evil is not the one who commits sins in your place. And think of this one, what was a sin at one time in the Bible wasn't a sin anymore after a while (i.e. eating pork meat). The concept of evil is one that is very hard to define. Some will even say that it doesn't exist. they often say that it is a creation of the collective mind to expell all of our sins on his back, in place of taking our responsibility and assume it for ourself. Frankly, if Evil exist, I don't think he is responsible for our wrongdoing. Maybe he is the starter of it all, but every one as the choice to do sin or not. I think evil is more a condition of heartless people that a spiritual being. However, whether it exist or not, it is up to everyone to make his own conception of what sin is.

Christmas and birthdays...
by Celia inthis thought came to me this morning, as i was lying in bed, trying to figure out which end is up.... the jws dont celebrate christmas, the birth of christ their savior.... because in earlier times, the same date was used to celebrate the return of the sun, the winter solstice.... (by the way, celebrating the return of the sun makes a lot of sense... no sun - no life..... we know the sun is there, we know what it does, no such thing about a god...) .
but i regress.. so, because on this date, pagans used to celebrate the sun, the jws dont want to celebrate christs birth..... its a little bit like not wanting to celebrate the birthday of a loved one, because he/she was born on the same day as a bad guy in history, like hitler, or napoleon, or slobodan milosevic, or saddam hussein, or osama bin laden... etc.... hmmm... my thinking is flawed, because, of course, the jws dont celebrate birthdays either.... question : did they first decide that christmas was evil or birthday celebrating was ?.
edited because the emoticon does not work.... :) :?

My thought on inconditonnal love is a love that transcends differences between people, that doesnt demand someone to change any behavior at all, because nobody is perfect here on earth. Like Jesus said, we all should love even the ones that we perceive as enemies, although I know that is very difficult, but i think it can be acheived through tolerance and understanding of the other. That love will never be perfect, but their is no reason not to try to reach it. Perfection is not the goal in life though. And for that matter, my opinion on goal in life isnt a goal that some crapy rulers have predesigned for you, but one that you want to attain. Without any restriction at all.
I hope that it will bring some light on the subject, and other conception on this topic is very welcome at well. it all leads for a better understanding.

End of Year 2001 - Conclusions Drawn
by Celtic inif there is one thing that i think that i have learn't this year, it is that people really do not give a shit about you, unless there is something in it for them to gain.
family?
they don't give a shit, they say they do, but when it comes to any real communication about feelings, you just get told to shut up, go away, not needed, useless, liar, your just making it up etc etc.. my old faith, jehovahs witnesses, do they care?

And when you make that first step to go forward, the next one is just one step away. Think about this one...
