  Which JWD Posters believe in the Powers of the Occult???

  Ah, the usual suspects...

  Those that believe in the occult are those with little idea what 'evidence' or 'proof' really is.

  They also probably have a charmingly inaccurate idea about the reliability of perception, and thus think themselves or others experiencing it as proof it exists even if that is the ONLY proof they have.

  They never seem to question why something that has supposedly been around so long and been experienced by so many people has as much proof to support it as there is of me having a twelve foot long todger, so criical thinkming skills seesm to be defcient too.

  Of course, as they believe in something illogical that has no evidence to support it, logic and pointing out the lack of evidence has no effect on their beliefs as neither logic or evidence helped them form their beliefs.

  They also really really hate people not belieiving in it, and get especially insulted if people analyse their beliefs in the occult from a dispassionate and methodical viewpoint.

  But the funniest thing is, some laugh at JW's for the cultic paranormal urban myths JW's believe in... yet when you get down to it they also believe in ghosties ghoulies and demonz, yet are incapable of differentiaing why thei beliefs are no silly and those of Dubbies are.

  christians of different denominations may ask each other: .

  "how long have you been a christian?".

  The last answerphone message I had was 'I'm sorry, I am out fighting dragons at the moment, please leave a message or call later'.

  I quite liked an ex-bosses answerphone message of 'you leave the message, I call you back'.

  I mean, do you want to talk to anyone you have to tell to talk AFTER the beep?

  "You don't return my phone calls!"

  ok. so what is the story about people getting upset with others because their phone calls are not returned?

  i know that sometimes i don't return calls, but i also know that sometimes people just call to chat, gossip, bitch, and overall waste my time and add to my stress level.

  second, i beleive this complaint is self centered: you didn't return my phone call.

  Ha... I am proud to be the only person in my company who has voice mail turned off on his cell phone and desk phone... and you know what? No one ever misses it. I have my mobile on close to 100% of the time, and if I can't pick it up, if it's business or someone I want to talk to, I call back.

  I've actually got rid of a shitty DECT cordless at home which didn't allow voicemail to be turned off permenantly (it always switched tself back on) and replaced it with one that has no voice mail.

  Voicemail and answer phones are just ways of making yourself a slave to others. If they can try once, they can try until they suck seed.

  The new funkey keyboard layout they are trying to sell

  anyone try the new funky keyboard layout that most keyboard manufacturers are selling now?

  the one where the delete key is tall, the home and end keys are moved next to each other and and the arrow keys are moved to the left under the shift key.. .

  i recently bought the logitech 510 (the one shown on the bottom) and i absolutely hate it.. years ago i learned how to touch-type, which means i type without actually looking at the keyboard.

  I have Logitech desksets at home and at work, a better one at home, but the keyboard layouts are identical new-style ones with big delete keys. Main difference is the mouse in the home set is rechragble with etra buttons hereas the work one is ordinary battery powered.

  The number/cap/F lock lights are in the receiver if it is a wireless jobby.

  Layout is not too bad but I really don't use all the funky extra buttons and controls much I'm so used to a standard keyboard. I'm a really fast four-finger typist, a bit up from hunt and peck but not a touch typist, so small layout chnages don't other me as much.

  Main issue is my work deskset is demonised; random key entry and mouse movements plauge me (must besome other bastard with the same keyboard but I can't find it), and the beginings of RSI in my right wrist; fels like the tendons are rubing together in a bad way.

  But my pain perception is weird; I normally miss minor cuts and bruises until someone else points them out. It might actually be really pinful but not to me.

  Keep meaning to get someone to look at it.

  Me and my daughter were screaming at the TV on Saturday. For you poor benighted souls outside of the UK (or places like NL where you get BBC) who don't DL the episodes (they hit bitstream bare hours after transmision), this series is absolutely corking. New standards of storyline. Pacey,suspensfull, edge-of-the-seat cliffhangers, with enough running down corridors and Welsh Slate quarries to keep the traditionalists happy.

  The angels was fab, and this weeks cliffhanger (I won't spoil it for you, but let's just say those old enough to remember certain arch rivals in the Old Dr Whohave been betting on a certain Nemesis re-emerging since the Face of Bo said that.

  Well, if there is no 'true spirituality' other than an indivdual's conception of it, then for some atheism might light on the path to it. Others not.

  Basically, I'm not buying the cow. I'm not even accepting there is a cow, but if standing there holding string you (not you personally Xena) say has a cow on the end of it makes you happy, can I give Buttercup a sugar lump?

  On the other hand, I have a cow, and she comes in many colours (ask Ross).

  If there is a 'greater' true spirituality, then what issue of Nature was that in?

  Just like gymbob, I think variable defintions of spirtuality defy a concise answer to the question, and non-concise answers end up questioning if there is a question in the first place.

  Oh, personally speaking (i.e. my definitons) for me it did, if you want a straight answer.

  Any survey concerning a group of 16,692 where you only sample 60 of that group will yield results that will vary from the next sample of 60 by +/-12.63%.

  You wouldn't trust a survey that inaccurate to accurately say which President candidate would win - normally a 5% margin of error is considered way too much.

  And you want to use this to justify killing people?

  This discussion involves different paradigms.

  My paradigm is 'if killing people is wrong, then killing people is wrong'.

  It means there is nothing you can say to convince me 'judicial' killing is just.

  At the same time I would cheerfully kill anyone who harmed or tried to harm me or mine. Self defence is fine, and I wouldn't try and pretend vengeance was justice.

  Now just as I come from a paradigm resistant to persuasion, I know many pro-'judicial' killing people come from equally resistant paradigms.

  Only in discussions where the facts do not matter, but the principles do, will you see such poor 'evidence' entered to justify one opinion.

  Some people might genuinely make cold clinical assessment of the situation. More think they do.

  But at the end of the day many think not killing a terrible murderer is just wrong, and many others will think killing a murderer is terribly wrong.

  Oh... when West Germany stopped executions after WWII, the politicians went against the opinion of the public. Now Germany has one of the lowest percentages of people supporting the deah penalty.

  Maybe you feel not killing murderers is just wrong, because you grew up in a society where the State killed people. It was normal.

  Just like those Germans did.

  Back up a minute; I see a capitalised 'true'.

  Semantically, that implies specificty unless one allows each person to have an individual spirituality to which they could be true to.

  I'm pretty sure most on this thread thus far accept the latter to be true.

  But if it is something that can be so individual, that implies it is an internalised paradigm, as distinct from an embracing of anything external.

  That doesn't mean it is without value; if it improves ones life, obviously it has value. But the only contest is with ourselves.
