Some of the things they come out with are unbelieveable. But how many here had these sort of conversations before, but they were the ones sticking up for the wittnesses? Everyone can list off scandals they heard about when they were a wittness, but when your brainwashed by all the things your being bombarded with at the meetings, the liturature and assemblies ect you can look past it. Its only when you step back from this that you see what really going on and realise how you used to act.

i DON'T THINK I CAN TAKE THE BRAINLESS CONVERSATIONS ANYMORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
by BLISSISIGNORANCE inomg......................how did i last 12 years in that mindless cult????????.
i had the opportunity over the weekend to talk to a couple of dubs, not by choice, but rather by misfortune.
why i say misfortune is because of the dumb conversations that took place with them.

I am thinking of doing it....

I know someone who done the fade, then moved away to another area. He never DA'd himself, but the elders later done it because they said his lifestyle said he didn't want to be a wittness so they made it official. So you may end up DA'd whether you write a letter for it or not.

Remnants of JWism
by berylblue infor me, i don't have "remnants".
i am still, i realize, about 90 percent jw.. however, i'm curious as to what other still have "left" from the org...for example, i am still politically neutral for the most part, and would not support any war and would rather die than take up arms.
this may be mostly my own pre-jw personality, but at this point in time, its so difficult to know what i am, even who i am..... do any of you still have (or maybe cling to, which may be true in my case) jw beliefs or tendencies, or have you gotten rid of them all?

I think the biggest one on me is self control. I was a bit 'fiery' when I was growing up, but was made to work hard to keep my temper under control. If I didn't have this, I wouldn't be able to do my job in a prison, which requires me to have an aggresive streak, but more importantly to be able to keep control of myself in difficult circumstances.

"New light" on Independant thinking?
by figureheaduk ini've just been reading an article on the jwmedia site about a study into wt literature that has been ordered by a russian court.. http://www.jw-media.org/newsroom/index.htm?content=/region/europe/russia/english/releases/religious_freedom/rus_e030523.htm.
it goes into the usual wt waffle about the persecution and harrassment of jws, religious freedom etc, but the following quote caught my eye:the study also revealed a much higher level of education among jehovah's witnesses (when compared with that of the average muscovite), which tends toward independent rational thinking and decision-making.
now, this would give joe public that the average jw is therefore able to think for himself, and reach his own conclusions independantly.

The Watchtower, May 15 2003, pg14 par20 "If any Christian is beginning to entertain Apostate views and want to spread them, he ought to take a warning from Christ! To save himself from disaster, he should repent and seek the spritual assistance of the elders in the congregation." The latest light says that anybody with apostate views (Read "Independant thinking/views) are not to be tolerated, and should be admonished by the elders.

Run dont walk, you were lucky if 10 people showed up at your group? I once was staying with someone out in the country, and at that group there was only THREE of us! And one of those was the 90yr whose house it was held in and just sat there noddin while the elder conducted and I answered. Now that WAS a nightmare.

I thought this had been going on for years? I know of 2-3 wittnesses who have been removed from their post's in the congregation(And DF'd/DA'd) because they came out as homosexual. Has this been breaking the anti-discrimination laws?

Those "secret files" the elders kept on each & every one of us?
by FreeofGuilt ini have been out of the cult jw religion for 3 yrs now, but i need some help/suggestions, please.
i am not disfellowshipped, but i simply became "inactive" after i left home & got married... i was "publicly reproved" once, & was wondering about those "secret files" they have kept on me.
if you have ever been in the "back room" then you know what i am talking about.

jgnat, thanks for the links, especially the last one. It sais about some people who'd been told by the elders their file was destroyed. Has anyone had this, then tried to get reinstated? What would happen if in this case if the file was then produced, or what would they use in the committee if the file WAS actually destroyed?

I believe the law is different in the UK, it applies to all organisations. Experian, a credit reference agency not connected to government is obliged by law to make available personal copies to people on request under this law. They are allowed to make an admin charge for this. Has anyone looked into this in th UK? I don't intend to ask for this myself, but I think it could be a good way for someone to establish a legal judgement against the society, which would make great publicity if they went against court orders.
