i am not much of a reader as i have two many distractions, but i fancy a challenging read, so please list any book that has changed your entire world view on everything.

i remember as a teenager buying at a yard sale, norman vincent peales " the power of positive thinking" and at the time that had a big impact on me.

but i am a little bit more in to " realistic positive thinking" now..

Teary Oberon - when you have been through such trauma it is very very possible that one could end up being a little out of sorts psychologically - to varying degrees. Often girls become promiscuous etc etc And of course that would earn them a DF'ing -

New Job

i was fortunate to be recommended for a sales position by a former colleague.

the company phoned me and we set up an interview.

i accepted their offer - it is nearly double what i earn at the moment.

How to cope with depression?

i know its very common for jws and ex jws to deal with depression.

maybe it's a side effect of cognitive dissonance or the whole outlook on life being a jw.

but what are some ways to cope with depression?

To all of you who are fighting with this Beast in all its many guises ......My most sincere wishes to you.

Please know that you are not alone in this battle.

Very good pointers have been made on this thread - after 30 months of this hell including 2 suicide attempts - I only got relief when I was put on to Venlafaxine [Effexor] that was after months of trying many other meds [Note: by stating the meds that worked for me does not mean that it is the be and end all for your specific situation ie I am not specifically endorsing it as The One] Needless to say I was back on track within a month - then I also managed to find a new niche in life work-wise and I was into remission. I am now [20 months down the line] - still on the Effexor [SNRI ?] -

However you have to approach your affliction holistically - eg Psychiatrist/Meds/Exercise/Diet etc etc etc - and finding good human support.

In my case my wife and my kids were my anchors. What support did I get from my - then - fellow elders??? Sweet Fanny Adams !!!!

Via the professionals - you need to also identify the Triggers for your depression.

I am also intensely into Mindfulness.

I have trimmed my life eg live very simply - have axed my debts and am in advanced Fade [totally Inactive and not attending meetings]

I would be more than willing to "chat" to anyone who would like to bounce things off me.

I am 58 yrs old, Professionally qualified with a passion for Music [am a trained Muso] and Art / good reading and quite Maverick and a little eccentric [according to my wife and kids] - Talk to me if you wish - I will not judge you!

May you all experience relief from the affliction.

It can get quite funny if they have not choreographed the whole ritual very carefully too esp as to who takes the emblems back to the table. Its really so silly - Many moons ago an elderly partaker giving the talk simply had the attendant offer him his sip and krisp while he stood at the podium. then again he was a very progressive old man - why ahead of the WTS on doctrine and subsequently removed from the body because of his views - Internet was not available then. [needless to say at his funeral he was eulogised by 3 members of the Bethal Branch Committee - the longest eulogy I have ever experienced]

Another earthquake and possible tsunami. " the end must be close!"

so we have heard of an earthquake today, and possible tsunami...and immediately i am told.

" well we must be close".

it is as if the witnesses are so happy that another tragedy has occurred!

Its Armageddon looming everytime the earth shakes.

Now what some dont realise is that this planet is skaking all the time. In fact I have a link to the US Geo-Survey which sends me an e-mail everytime there is a tremblor over 6.0 - You set the magnitude of your choice and if you have the setting at 5.0 you are going to jam up your e-mail daily. Most of these shakers occur quite deep down though - thankfully.

But its hard to convince a dub that TPM is an ongoing thing -

As a slightly side issue - If Jehovah is not saving people from earthquakes - among other things - lest it be said he has put a hedge around his people - then it is pointless to make a claim such as ......"I was saved from the calamity cos i was at the meeting / DC at the time and Jehovah save me etc " - otherwise its really very highly exclusive and selective ....................................
