obviously i'm having ex cult issues, family still in and a wife that's all kokoo for cocopuffs as well as our marriage isn't good.

i would like to leave her, she has never been the kind of wife i wanted.

anyway the stress is getting to be to much, thinking about things all the time and its effecting my work as well as otherthings.

I have been in the big-D since 2010 - 30 + months of dark hell.

Was first put on a combination of paxil and Molipaxin?? which turned me into a Zombie and i tried suicide twice.

Then Ciprilex - no change

Now on Effexor [Venlafaxine] and it kicked in within 3 weeks and I am now in "remission" "

Please note : you gotta work out your own modality but it will have to be multi-leveled ie Psychology / Psychiatry / Exercise / CBT / family support etc etc

I was dead scared of going on with meds after the Paxil episode but the Effexor is working - However I believe it is a "bitch" to come off. I forgot to take it a few times and within 6 hours I was dipping and getting "brain-zaps"

And ......................not being involved in religion was one of the biggest +'s toward recovery !

Actually when I was truly in "the Vale of Deep Shadow" with the D NOT ONE of my fellow elders even came to visit me !

It got me heading for the door more rapidly.

Dont be offended. There is another song which sounds like the start of the Aussie National Anthem [Just cant put finger on the name and #]

So I started reading this topic with some interest and there are 2 posters trading gentle blows and proffering their fairly interesting views on the IP situation. [None of us here are true experts on the issues anyways] and then enter stage left some who are hellbent on pushing their views and stabbing at the participants even without having a lot of facts themselves etc as if they are the sole experts on the subject !

Why must there always be some who have to “attack” – Why cant you just offer your view and disagree in a reasonable way??

Jeez some of you must have been shit to be around even IN the Kingdom halls and organisation. Thank F—k you are out ! At least your lost bretheren who are still “in” don’t have to endure your toxic personalities.

And then the whole topic is ruined for all ~!

Question for current and former elders: did you feel qualified to give counsel for depression?

do you feel the counseling demands placed on elders are fair and scriptural?.

i live in an economically depressed industial city.

my dad is an elder in a lower income black congregation.

Elder for 15 years and then fell into deep dark depression myself + 2 suicide attempts - Not one of my fellow body called on me - FACT. Only a really top class Psychiatrist managed to assist me through this but it required a lot of support from my wife and kids> I had to use meds as well and still do [Venlafaxine] I originally was up at the 300mg/day - now at 75 mg/day.

It requires a Multi-pronged approach

To repeat what has already been said here:

JW elders should not even try to counsel - just advise that victim gets professional help / assist them to get help /

The "saving grace" is that depression is now exploding in congregations [and this was confirmed to me by a co's wife] and so there is a sensitivity by some congo elders to the matter - once you have been to Hell and Back you truly are qualified to be empathetic but only then.

My fading and no longer being on the body, not attending meetings and FS has assisted me greatly to be able to deal with my D.

Knowing the TTATT has also proven helpful.

You know someone depressed? Help them please ! And their families as they suffer greatly too. [My wife is now recovering from double Mastectomy and Chemo - maybe my D was a contributing factor]

somatic pain

did anyone ever get somatic pain when they would get ready for meeting?

i would get horrible middle back pain that would sometimes flare but would always flare when i was getting ready for meeting..

I used to get very depressed coupled with pain around the kidney region[this was a precursor to full blown deep dark depression which cut me down for 30 months or so ]Depression stopped when I stopped attending. And un-eldered myself.

btw depression is now huge in the congos especially elders [and their families]

it was announced at our meeting tonight that our co (who is actually a pretty good sort) and his wife have been reassigned as regular pioneers.

they are both relatively young (50s) and have been used extensively by the society recently.

as far as i know there are no personal issues.

Our man and his missus [really top class humans] have been reassigned to another country to assist at its Bethel. In his case this would hardly be a demotion.

I too wonder if in the not-too-distant future the CO will be very localised.

However it does seem a new trend has emerged out of this years round of IC's. My guess is these folk are visiting the Bethel after attending the IC in Harare Zimbabwe.

67 minutes - time to help

in south africa we have mandela day on the 18th of july - it was his birday and people in sa celebrate it by spending at least 67 minutes helping someone or helping a cause.

this year, my friends and i are helping out a horse sactuary in desperate need of food for their animals.

we are ording in hay, shandy chubes and hay presto.

We are having such "kak" weather down here in Mammas City !

I am going to do a late night neighbourhood patrol of about 2 hours - Kamikaze Shift Midnight till about 02h00 - always something going down at that time !

Wife and I are already involved in teaching groups of Informal settlement dwellers how to create Veggie Gardens from the minimal of space and resources - absolute fun and its so appreciated.

You see...............so we have this sister from a country north of us who works for us. She is as most of them folk are .....uber-faithful / zealous etc etc

so she is skilled at being a WT Bible and Tract Sales Representative - but she has not been taught basic life skills - - survival skills in her case- Such has how to make a small veggie garden to survive off.

Surely we ought to be FIRST taking care of equipping the 'hood' with such skills????????

But oh no-

And of course she is living away from her family in Malawi in order to earn some money to send back to them - to survive back there,

Now was she stricken with guilt with the WT a week or so ago regarding working in a foreign land and did the brothers not half lay into her ! Wow ! When she spoke to me on the Monday after the study she was so upset - she is only trying to earn something to send back home to keep them alive - hubby was wiped out in a car accident ,

This is absolute borderline existance stuff - She lives in a Shack ie some wood/ corrugated iron / Plastic No Sanitation

And would the local cong [which is very high end financially "dip in" to assist ? "if individuals feel inclined to do so they may but the cong funds are "dedicated funds" [DEDICATED FOR WHAT FUCKING PURPOSE]
