New here, well, sort of...

been lurking here for years but finally decided to come out, at least partially.

of all things, the post of 'bats in the belfry' re: the supposed break up of gb member geoffrey jackson and his cute (ex-?

) fiancee a few days ago spurred me to do so.

No more big District Conventions?

so i went to the hall today for a funeral and took a look at the bulletin board.

i was surprised to see a letter stating the dc for michigan would be held at the local assembly hall instead of the big convention center in ohio where it had been held the past few years.

have you all heard about this?.

"Bulletin" is worse than you think, lol. I was told it was because it came from the catholic church, the Pope posting the papal bulls - thus bulletin. Wouldn't want to be contaminated with anything pagan, don't ya know.

i noticed that emma on jwn was from michigan.

i am from mi now living in wa.

so, a long shot, i know it's a big state but something about her made me think we were from the same area.

Thanks to crmscl for putting this together. What a small world! We're making connections, they go back a bit. Of course she's MUCH younger than me.. I've reconnected with three people from my past from this forum, so happy about this latest one.

Good Signs from my wife? maybe? She wants to improve her thinking ability!

so after the memorial hell http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/jw/friends/249700/1/memorial-hell my wife totally missed the special talk and i only just realized from jwn that she has.

in fact last sunday i took her out to a park and we had nice time in the fresh air enjoying nature.

also she has taken up improving her congnitive skills on luminosity and today said she might actaully go and study some algebra on khan academy which i had suggested instead of spending money on luminosity.

Maybe try to find an activity or class she wants to attend that happens to be on a meeting night. You can promise to take her to a make-up meeting at another congregation. It's not so easy to make up that missed meeting. It happened with me. My kids wanted a Thursday night activity really bad so i thought I'd temporarily go to the cong that had that meeting on Wed. Never happened, gave me another way down that path! Unknowingly, it could begin her fade.

Elders Call Off Meetings A Lot More Easily Than They Did Before For Inclement Weather

the meetings were cancelled in this area with only 2 inches of snow for the "storm''.

lol.

a month ago the co had the meeting cancelled because it was a bit tracherous, which i thought was a good call..... years`ago, if we cancelled a meeting it took until one hour before the presiding overseer would finally decide to cancel.. today's jws are wimps..

Something interesting after 6.5 hours in the ER

this is just a few things interesting that happened to me yesterday while waiting in the er.. i'm fine other than a minor concussion and being sore from tripping over my cat yesterday and face planting into the corner of the wall.. so anyway i had to wait about 6 hours in the waiting room and while i was there, there were these two hispanic women going around the room asking people if they wanted a "tract" on jesus, they didn't know english all that well and i couldn't really see the cover of the tract or anything, but the one woman who approached me had what looked like a bible.

of course i couldn't see what bible it was.

if i wouldn't have been suffering with a concussion and could think better, i would have inquired on if these women were jw's or not.

It is a great feeling to purge your records. You might want to recheck because it took me several attempts over a couple of years to make sure the "JW" was off all my records.

Has a wrong disfellowshipping ever been reversed?

im not talking about simply being reinstated.

i remember hearing a story about a brother that was disfellowshipped because of the testimony of two false witnesses.

years passed before they admitted to lying about the brother and was reinstated.. what is policy in this sort of situation?

I was in the Livonia, West (Michigan) congregation in the late '60s early '70s and they nullified the disfellowshipping of a young man in the congregation. It was an unusually kind and loving congregation, even the elders. Everyone greeted him with warmth after the meeting.
