Mary,
I've been associated with two Kingdom halls in my time. Your thread described BOTH to a T!
funny yet sad
has anyone noticed that jws who appear to be higher up on the 'socio-economic' ladder get special treatment at the kh?
no matter how many khs i've visited, i've noticed that jws who are not well off socially/financially/physically are treated with less respect/dignity than those with a business of their own, or just a higher quality of life.
i've been to many 'gatherings' where jws filter themselves out according to race or socio-economic standing.

i am presumming that all of the governing body are of the "annoited class" and up there in age.. so what happens when they can no longer look after things, which should be soon, there are no other annoited really to take over.
and 10 years from now all the supposed "annoited ones" will be gone.. whta will become of the governing body ??????.
the watchtower must be a bit worried.. will there be "new light" and make up a new body ?????
In "Search for Christian Freedom", Ray Franz makes it clear that most of the writing of the WTS books and magazines are NOT written by the anointed. Also I recall an elder stating that some people who are not of the anointed class can become anointed. If someone that claims to be anointed looses faith, their position is filled (presumabliy by someone much younger) In other words, they'll always have someone to keep the torch burning. Thats their "get out of jail free" card.
This kind of stuff doesnt seem to bother the rank and file, especially the younger generation. Talking to my BIL and his JW friends at the w/e, it came clear that they have no idea of past doctrines, current administration or changing ideas. They didnt even know half of the current teachings. It doesnt matter. As long as they attend 5 times a week and do slightly more than 8 hours per month, they've paid their dues. I doubt this is something encouraged by the GB, but keeping the masses at a certain level of ignorance, definately works in their favor.
guess what?
i have been posting here for a whole year .
i have learnt so much from this forum and thank you all for the great posts, a very great thank you to simon for all the hard work and time spent helping us all.
So as not to offend any JW lerkers, lets call it a 1st anniversary
for those of you who had a jw childhood, were you pulled out of sex education classes?
did it bother your conscience if school surprised you with one?
after being deprived from sex knowledge and since the society doesn't make diagrams, how did you learn about it?
Yeah I was given a note to excuse me from sex-ed classes, but I still went in the vain hope of seeing something juicy. Coming from a single parent family, my mum decided to get an Elder to go through the Youth book with me. It's a shame she left it until I was 14. (I was already shaving!) It was amusing watching a 50 year old man blush when talking erections, but it was a little too late....I was already having regular "sex-ed" with the young girl next door. heh heh heh
does anyone know what the jw position is on blood these days?
or could you point me to a website that gives their position.
it has changed i know since i was in the organization 5 years ago.
Mmmm. I'd like to see which scripture they use to justify this new madness
the wtbts was able to get a foothold years ago because they offered a radical departure from traditional christianity.
they offered up an alternative view of god and the afterlife, some prophetic math, and a good kick in the pants to mainline churches.
the catholic (universal) church deserved that kick, caught asleep on the job.
I've learnt a lot from this thread. Growing up as a Dub, I could never understand why adults would choose to become witnesses. Whenever I refused to go I would be beaten (I'm sure the biblical "rod" wasnt made from iron, but mine was), kicked out the house (nothing like sleeping on the doorstep during a british winter to make you a little more humble) and then have a visit from the Elders (almost weekly). Whenever I saw new ones arrive at our KH, I always felt like screaming "WHAT ARE YOU DOING? RUN..AND NEVER LOOK BACK!!!" This thread has given me a little more understanding as to why some of you guys, as adults, decided to join.
thanks
i was 13 at the time.
i wanted to get baptised before the end came in 1975. .
back then, 13 was borderline young for baptism, but from what i've been reading, some are now getting baptised as young as 9 or 10. .
16 - to please my mum
I cant believe they let cruzanheart take the plunge while only 9
I've heard people on this site mention that it is illiegal to enter a contract like baptism while still a minor, therefore we can't be DF/DA because we were never legally associated. Anyone got any info?
well, for some reason i was up extra early today, understand i am night person and usually sleep to 11 or so today i was up at 9 and decided to take the dogs out before it got to hot outside.
i hadn't been gone 3 minutes and as i came out of my street onto another i bumped into 2 jw's (females) getting out of their suv.
they asked do you have a couple of minutes.
Gotta be the wife of the Chief Window-washer in her area.
Love it
for the last 20 years of my association with the jws, i was, more or less, a hypocrite.
they taught things i didn't believe, but i went to the meetings and, by my presence there and by my "non-answers" i in essence supported something that i didn't believe.. it's a hard thing to say "i was a hypocrite.".
i was.. craig

I believed 100% what the WTS taught me. I guess then I wasn't a hypocrite...just an idiot

if they would admit that they were no better than any other religion
Never going to happen. To make such a U turn would go against the core teachings of the Watchtower. Their theology is grounded on the "fact" that they are better than other religions, whereas it is obvious from their behaviour that they are no different. They have become the very thing that Pastor Russell publicly abhorred...and then later adopted (Compare WT April 1882 pg 71,72 with current doctrines)
